  1. Nice tank. I'm probably 6 months out from pulling the trigger to start. Not sure if new is a must have yet.
  2. Hi y'all! I'm a former reef addict and member of ARC who had a 90g mixed reef tank, but had to get out of the hobby 5 years ago. Anyways, life is opening up again and I'm itching to get back in the reef hobby, but in a more scaled down version. I would like to try a bio / nano cube sized AIO and keep zoas, shrooms, anemone, pair of clowns and some blennies, and maybe an acan and/or clam. I look forward to re-learning from y'all and getting back in to the hobby. Mitch
  3. All, I'm deferring to Ty in regard to collecting funds etc. TY Ty! Ty, btw, i'll assume you don't need me to maintain a list of peeps in the OP. If you do, lmk.
  4. Awesome guys! I'm hijacking the first post and keeping a list of those who wish to contribute to the gift. Please continue to reply to this thread if you are interested in contributing. I believe Tim is Vietnamese (please correct me if i'm wrong). Anyone know what would be considered a traditional Vietnamese condolence gift? A quick Google search says no gift, but a card, meals, and the like. Another suggestion was a charitable donation. Please advise if someone knows better.
  5. Would anyone be interested in chipping in for something for his family? Tim obviously was part of our ARC family, and I think it would be nice for us, eg ARC, to send our group condolences to his family.
  6. I'm very sad to hear this. Tim was such a good guy. RIP. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk
  7. Another related article: http://allthingsd.com/20130619/surprise-lytro-has-hidden-wi-fi-capability-now-can-connect-to-the-iphone/?mod=tw_rev Says Android app in the works as well as it having a Bluetooth chip on board already. Awesome!
  8. For Lytro + Apple fanboys: http://techcrunch.com/2013/06/19/lytro-enables-its-cameras-hidden-wifi-chip-launches-a-companion-ios-app-with-animated-gifs/ I guess us Android fanboys will have to wait
  9. I have similar problems with copy-and-paste as George has brought up. Also, sometimes when I edit one of my posts and submit, it'll show up with html code embedded.
  10. Currently @ AMD. James and I work on the same floor / side of the bldg. I'm part of the CAD team supporting the designers with AMD's processor designs. I specialize in static timing analysis (verify a chip is running to spec, eg 1 GHz) and thermal analysis (verify the current flow (= heat) through localized parts of the chip do not change device characteristcs and or long term reliability of the part). However, I'm at the cusp of a career change and was accepted to UT's Alternate Entry MS Nursing program, but have deferred my start til Summer 2014. I hope to work in the ER and/or ICU, where I currently volunteer at both @ Brackenridge. Btw, other interests include sailing/windsurfing (i used to be a collegiate sailor), salsa dancing (teach, promote, run events), and brazilian jiu jitsu (just a blue belt).
  11. Here are pics I took of Jake's tank: https://pictures.lytro.com/atxmitch/stories/112968 Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
  12. Some side tracking of this thread... I'm becoming an Eric Cheng fanboy, but you'll be too if you check out his pics: http://photos.echeng.com/Prints/Print-Sales/3381454_KFBCGG#!i=189233567&k=2GxQNf6 The pic of the loggerhead turtle was displayed in the Smithsonian's Natural History Museum - impressive!
  13. No, I did not. Btw if you are interested in playing with a Makerbot, there's 2 outfits that have them for use... TechShop.com and ATXHackerspace.org, the latter being a much cheaper option...
  14. Thx Brett Did you get to see the pics that you took on the computer? The display on the camera itself is definitely lacking as I had questioned the quality of the pics I took, but what a difference once I uploaded them! When they came to SXSW last year, I also had the chance to play with it, but only for an hour. Besides not having support for Windows, I wasn't convinced. Having it in my hands for 24hrs this time around and really getting a chance to try a variety of shots and play with their software really convinced me this time. Besides having bought one for myself after having to return it, I ended winning another today If you or anyone else is interested in buying it from, lmk. Oh, here's a testimonial from Trey Ratcliff who happened to be leading the Google+ Photowalk @ SXSW today: The interviewer is Eric Cheng, Lytro's Director of Photography and a very well respected underwater photographer as well as running Wetpixel.com. His talk today included some AMAZING pictures he has taken (not with the Lytro though).
  15. Here's my Lytro folder: http://pictures.lytro.com/atxmitch It currently only has a select set of pics from SXSWi that I took. I'll be taking my reef tank pics in the morning when I wake up.
  16. For those interested, they are offering a discount @ SXSWi.
  17. And another, but this requires a SXSWi badge: http://www.eventbrite.com/event/5537456682/es2004/?rank=7#
  18. Just saw this session: http://www.eventbrite.com/event/5480265622/es2004/?rank=5#
  19. Fyi Lytro will be coming to SXSW again, and they're offering opportunities to win one! http://events.lytro.com/featured-main/win-lytro-cameras/ If you register for Scene at SouthBy, they will loan you a Lytro camera. I was told by the Marketing Manager that I would be able to keep it overnight - not sure if this is the norm or because I chose the last slot of the day. But anyways, yay! I'm gonna try to take pics of my tank. Mitch

  21. Here's a friend's blog post about the versatility of using zip ties: http://the-fishroom.blogspot.com/2013/02/tales-from-reefkeeping-tool-box-v1.html And the use of wire mesh shelving mounted vertically was from me
  22. Unfortunately, yes that would be against the rules.
  23. Check this one out! http://pictures.lytro.com/ReefBuilders/pictures/227099#./227099?&_suid=415
