    Tunze Skimmer

Got this skimmer that I was gonna use but decided to 86 the project... Up yo 50 gallons.. $85... http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.aquarist-classifieds.co.uk/php/image/388.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.aquarist-classifieds.co.uk/php/detail.php%3Fcat%3D59%26de%3D788&usg=__6wt_0AXiVyxud0eTZILaGbw7Uis=&h=510&w=639&sz=25&hl=en&start=1&um=1&tbnid=K59Ifucg2fJcMM:&tbnh=109&tbnw=137&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dtunze%2B3110/2%2Bskimmer%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26um%3D1

    Feed Pump

Thanks, if you can remember the model on that Ehiem, Id like to check it out. Do you have it free flowing or throttled down?

    Feed Pump

320 gallons per hour??? You must go through a lot of Co2! Are you using that pump for recirculating or actual feed?

    Feed Pump

What are ya'll using for the feed pump on your calcium reactor. I see many use Maxi Jets but usually choke them down. I have some fresh Aqualifter pumps and thought Id try one, anyone else use one on a Ca reactor?
  5. Purigen would be a good option, Im just wondering what it is thats keeping your water from being clear, something else must be going on.... If you have suspended particulate matter in the water, the skimmer 'should' be removing it. I know that sometimes if you have any inhabitants that are actively disturbing a sandbed, you may encounter some clarity issues, a mechanical filter like a temprary canister with filter floss and carbon should take care of that.
  6. Do you have cyano? If so, you really need to treat the source rather than treat the symptoms...
  7. Yes, it will help water quality. What exactly is wrong?
  8. I never let my tds get above 3, always have filters and DI ready to go, its not expensive, maybe thats why I dont have any algae issues??
  9. Put some water in a new plastic sandwich baggie, test your tds from there and compare notes.

    Frag plugs

^^^ awww, thats so sweet... I use live rock rubble for plugs, if something I receive comes on a funky looking plug, I trim it to fit a hole in the rock somewhere.
  11. If you soak it in bleach, there isnt gonna be any life so no cycle. It'll need to be rinsed in clean water to remove the bleach, you sure dont want any of that in your tank.. Dont use bleach, use water change water, that will help to seed the rock and give it a head start on becoming live. If anything, you want to 'cook' the rocks to get it to release all its built up detritus. Lots of info on the net.
  12. Howsabout some backround on your tank? Some idea of what youre working with would help.. What you have is probably live-ish, Texas holey rock isnt the best for filtration because of its limited area and weight. Really need more info...
  13. Clint, I left a message on your cell, call me tomorrow...
  14. Yes, just duct tape off some of the inlet vents to get the desired flow. I used black tape to match the housing..
  15. I not sure I see the problem... It looks healthy enough, nice and plump, The pictures are totally different. One is blue and the other looks more natural. Doesnt look bleached to me...
  16. Peppermint shrimp for the small ones, liquid calcium injection for the large ones. You dont have to be quite as concerned with the calcium as you would with kalk...
  17. Ya'll can bash maast all you want, the rules are there for everyone equaly. No links to Ebay are allowed whether directly or indirectly. The people who understand maast are willing to oblige by the rules, the ones who arent, can go elsewhere. Its not far too common, this only happens when people try to bend the rules and think it goes unseen, it doesnt. The original poster had every opportunity to send the ebay info via pm, he chose not too, thus the removal of the post. The moderator did exactly what he was supposed to do and I personally have no regrets for his actions,. Now, if you want to personally bash me for my opinions, feel free, however, if you'd like to discuss it and reach a mutual agreement, I'd be more than willing to help. MAAST is not off track as implied, in fact, its heading in a positive direction and gaining recognition as a valuable recource in the reefing communities, why do you thine the club has so many enthusiastic sponsors? MAAST has no desire to work against ARC, we all share the same interest and should work together as an educational force...
  18. You dont need to drain the tank, just get you a bar clamp and use it in place of the brace temporarily if you are planning to repair it. If the tank glass is thick enough, at least 7/16" and its a 36" wide tank, you dont need the center brace... Ive been running mine like this for six years.
  19. Is this still available? Whats the GPH and does it come with mounting hardware?
