  1. this is a great topic! question, does the population in the main tank become a problem for filtration or pumps etc? I dont want to clog stuff up. I'll be setting up a 10 gallon in a couple of weeks that I'll be getting from RCA and I would like to seed the pods in that one before we add fish, but I dont want to plug anything up.
  2. kingsnake (jeff) has some live rock too, he is shutting his tank down.
  3. I have a Ultralife fish trap (modified with magnets) you can borrow, but I'm up in RR and live in Gtown(trap is at home).
  4. my two cents: cleanup saltcreep (if any) when you do the water change. I once had saltcreep cause my icecap ballast to arc and smelled like burning plastic. Had I not been home, I'm not sure what would have happened.
  5. I guess it would depend on what she looks like
  6. thats a good question, and how big is the area where your cheato is?
  7. ok, 2 questions, 1. how much cheato is too much? 2. what lighting works for your cheato?
  8. ok Mike, this is some beautiful stuff, you need to tell us more about your tank, lighting, filtration, maintennace. Probly should do it in the reefkeeping forum to keep the web gods happy
  9. perhaps not those that are out there, but I had some purple staghorn I think it was, it started as a frag from the one that Bruce has in his front tank at Aquatek. The owner had it in his tank, and he was getting out of the hobby and sold it to me. This thing was so big, it was literally as tall as a 5 gallon bucket, and we broke off multiple frags just to get it into a 5 gallon bucket for me to bring home. It did great, and one day we moved rock around, so I took it out and set it down for around 5 minutes on some newspaper. the WHOLE thing died later!! i see guys selling frags of this type for 30 bucks an inch, and it makes me sick when I think of the value of how much this coral was worth when it died. So the point is that if I frag or move rock, I have water from the tank ready to go to put it into while I do whatever to the tank. Really expensive lesson to learn, that coral was worth many hundreds of dollars. Rey
  10. biting my tongue on Partners, 'nuff said...
  11. well, the honest answer is that not all stores are all things to all people. River City has Jake, really nice guy and he's the owner. Aquatek has Bruce and he's the owner. Both are great! Austin aquadome is another place, but its further south for me. I have to throw a big plug for Matt at Austin Aqua farms, his corals are just fantastic, but you have to go there at least once to see his stuff, your jaw will drop! Rey
  12. thats just sad, the loss of life, time and effort, and I bet they dont put it back up either.
  13. Howdy all! I got roped into taking pictures at a formal event, and I feel that I should purchase an external flash to get the best pictures. I'm leaning towards an Nikon SB-600, but I'm open to suggestions. SB-900 is a little out of my price range and I doubt I would know how to use it effectively anyway, but please chime in! Rey
  14. I'mm not an expert, so I dont know and perhaps others can chime in on this, but is it advisable to trim off skelton so as not to "cut" into new growth?
  15. wow, thats bloody fantastic! Makes me wonder if we could create a similar acclimation setup in our homes based on what they use there? Also, I like to see the people I'm buying from, rather than "the company" being some nebulous entity in another state.
  16. i went to biglots here in round rock, none at all.
  17. yep, please PM me and I'll send you my address and phone number.
  18. I have wayyy too many mushrooms, I'd like to sell a bunch. 5 bucks for the ones that are 4 inches or larger, or 2 for 5 of the smaller ones. I have some pulsing Xenia too for free for those that buy shrooms.
  19. I could really use some of those clip on fans if anyone has some they would like to sell.
  20. WOW! Jeff, we brought the corals home and they look fantastic! Everyone, you really need to come and see the Carpet nem that Jeff has, its freakin huge and beautiful!! Its easily 1 foot across and is just awesome. If I had a bigger tank, this puppy would be my show piece. Whoever takes it home is going to be really happy. The picture really doesnt do these corals justice and one of the hammer corals is about the size or a number 3 or 4 soccer ball. I just wish I had more money and tank space to take all the stuff I wanted home.
  21. I've been trying to find some of these clipon fans you folks mention, but I cant find any. I went to walmart, target, lowes and home depot, no luck. Walmart had some desk fans, but no clip ons.
