  1. I use an airpump with 2 airstones to aerate the water and 2 maxijet 1200s. I let it mix overnight. A heater would be nice to be able to add the tank to the water when its been cold outside (since the Brute is in the garage). Normally, I'll fill up a jug the next day and keep it in the house to add to the tank. I wonder if the heater could melt the can if it stayed close to the sides long enough?
  2. Good news! Skimmer is working the best it ever has! Making the really large crusty looking skimmate. I did 3 things. 1. added phosban reactor with activated charcoal to sump 2. started using Kents Liquid Calcium reactor 3. ran skimmer pump for a couple of days in a 1:1 mix of water and white vinegar. I did note that when I first put the pump in the vinegar mix, it was making the very frothy (alkaselzer) bubbles. Right before I went to bed, the bubbles looked larger. That night I put the airtube under the water surface so that water would get sucked in through there too so it would get cleaned. Next day, I pulled the tube out to get air and left it like that all day. When I got home last night, the bubbles were not frothy at all, much larger and very smooth. Rinsed the pump out with water a few times and popped it into the sump, lowered the riser tube almost all the way down and cranked it up. Skimmate started to form quickly but was larger and no where near as foamy as it had been. Sump didnt fill up with bubbles and its working great!

Group buy? LOL!! Actually, I just got one a couple of weeks ago, pretty straight forward. I need a Linksys WAP11 to connect to it so I can see it on my wireless network via the ipod touch or blackberry
  4. Thought you guys might enjoy this, pretty nifty diagram: http://wetplantlogic.com/wordpress/wp-cont...ectrical-v2.jpg hopefully I dont get spanked for this, but this is the root link for this person's tank. You should see the plumbing diagram! http://wetplantlogic.com/wordpress/http:/w...tegory/follies/
  5. never cracked one of those open, but the best solution is to probably rotate the end caps with known good ones one at a time (with the power off of course). In other words, take a working endcap from one of the working bulbs and swap it for a non working bulb's endcap. I know that sounds like a pain, but it seems to be the only way to first rule the end caps out. Then you're looking at wiring or a ballast problem.
  6. I have a Euroreef CS6-2 with the Sedra 3500 pump, and my pump is making wayyy too many bubbles, to the point that it comes out the riser tube (even with a foam filter on it), the sump water turns white with bubbles, then my main tank turns white with bubbles and you cant see anything. I have tried letting the skimmer run for a while and let the fish bump into stuff, but it never stops. I then tried mixing some fresh salt water overnight, then putting the pump in a clear bucket to watch the action, and it looked like someone dumped a box of Alkaselzer in there, it was foaming and bubbling like crazy! So it cant be my tank water. I even tried moving the 1/4 inch spacer from the front of the impeller to the rear and that did reduce the amount created, but it seems the bubbles are so small, it just foams. Any thoughts? Oh, the impeller is about 3 months old and not missing teeth. I pinged Euroreef and they gave me some tips and pointed me to http://www.euro-reef.com/euro-reef-product-maintenance.asp I was wondering if any of youse have a skimmer that uses the same pump and if I can bring mine over to try on your skimmer. That way i can see if the problem is with my pump? This is my impeller: http://euro-reef.com/pdf/reference/euro-re...er-assembly.pdf This is what my pump looks like, it has the 3/4 inch outlet: http://www.f3images.com/IMD/250/AG1633/AG1633_1.jpg

    ok, where's the Blackberry app??
  8. Now thats an idea! I would pay 5 bucks for a better and more accurate test. "Build a better mousetrap and the world will beat a path to your door"
  9. Can you put that in an excel sheet and/or html so that I can just plug in the numbers?
  10. Dustin, whatcha got left, is the list at the top updated?
  11. Any of youse have a Korallin 1502 reactor setup and running? I purchased a used one and I'm trying to set it up, but I'm just not getting these instructions. I'm a very visual guy, so if I can see pictures of one setup and how its connected, I can roll. I found the instructions on Korallin's site, but the Ausgang and the Enigang arent labeled on my unit, but I do have the Auslauf and Enlauf labeled. I just dont want to mess this up and would rather wait on some useful info before I goof it.
  12. River City has Aiptaisa X, I highly recommend it. I have used on 3 tanks, it falls like drops of elmers glue, doesnt cloud the water and you need a single drop for an aiptasia. I have plenty of SPS and LPS in a 90G and 29G bio cube, never caused a problem. Its about 19 dollars, but it will last a long time.
  13. what is dramatically? 1/2 normal life?
  14. looking for (2) icecap 660 wiring harnesses. I'm in Gtown but work in RR.

  16. I've been using the Ocean Master test kits by Instant Ocean for ph, nitrite, nitrates, ammonia and Alk. I use the API kit for the Calcium mostly, or to verify the results for some of the Ocean Master results, but they always match. My opinion, and (I'd like some feedback on this one), dont use the Red Sea Magnesium kit, its difficult, poorly documented and downright usesless. Matt at Austin Aqua farms uses the Elos Mag kit, says its great and easy. What I dont like about the API kit is the vials. The lid for the vials goes on the outside, and when you shake it, then remove the cap, liquid always spills on the outside of the vial onto your fingers. I used a Hagen Calcium kit for the first time last night, and while I had 3 reagents to mix in, the vial had a lid that went on the inside of the vial, so you could shake it, and remove the lid slowly and the fluid would stay in the vial, not on the outside and on your fingers. My two cents.
  17. whatcha mean you only have a phome camera? Where is the Sony?
  18. Sounds like a plan. Grainger in Round Rock didnt have them?
  19. Tractor Supply Company has a 1.5 inch PVC ball Valve, any reason this would not work? Thats what I use to control flow to and from my sump....
  20. did you find one? This is it right? I'll check, but I doubt it.
  21. I have an X-Lg Mag Float for sale, its used but the part that goes inside the tank is still very rough. This one has been used on glass and I would not recommend for an acrylic tank. This puppy goes for 89.99 at Dr Foster and goes up from there. Google Shopping says it is 101.98 with tax and shipping. I'll let it go for 70. I'll post here first to give the locals a shot, then to Maast and then Reefcentral. I work in RR and I can meet you at Frys tomorrow during lunch if you like. I see they also sell replacement pads for a few bucks, so it can be good as new with that, but honestly, this puppy is pretty abrasive. Mine looks like the one in the picture, except mine has rounded corners. Their pic must be old cause it says patent pending and mine says "patented". Really could use the cash please since I just bought a calc reactor and controller. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod...cfm?pcatid=4083
  22. I'm sure you dont wish to part out at this time, but if you get to that point, I'm interested in the Tunze ATO
  23. dude, thats some serious lookig current across the top of that water!!
