  1. Maroons can have a tendency to be aggressive and biters. They would need to stock last
  2. Agree with Tim. Hlle could also be from poor water quality. How long has he been in the main tank. Could have started hlle in Qt with bad water quality and just started showing in the display.
  3. Just happy to get the SPS guru back in the fold.
  4. I concur with all the comments here. Your SPS be hungry homie. Nutrients = fertilizer. No nutrients = no growth and deteriorating health. Also your alk is too high for as little nutrients as you have. Alk should only be increased in the present of plenty nutrients to fuel growth. Until you get your nutrients under control and higher you should slowly decrease alk. Be careful changing parameters on coral that is sick results in death. Speaking in generalities. high lights with proper nutrients = pretty coral (5-20 no3, 0.03-0.1 po4) your have to figure out where your tank is happy. High lights with no nutrients = pale coral and eventually death = this is basically zeovit Not enough lights with too much nutrients = brown coral, failure to thrive and eventually death. not enough lights with not enough nutrients = dead coral
  5. From a math/chemisty position the only thing I would concern myself with is, is the mag in acceptable range? Is it in the correct ratio to calcium? from a reefing standpoint the only thing I would concern myself with is, all the math chemisty questions, am I observing a rise or fall within the same test kit chemicals. When you switch test kits you will get different readings. It happens all the time to me with Hanna alk when I go to a new reagent bottle. I have seen a difference of 0.5 dkh. It can be slightly concerning if your not ready for it. I only care about the rise or fall not the actual number so much as long as it's kinda where I want it. When you switch to new test kits you should always take back to back readings to see what the new test kit says vs the old test kit. the WHY is it different. We pay very little for our test kits and use them over a long period of time. The reagents aren't lab grade. Any evaporation out of the bottles can skew the readings. The manufacturing of the reagent chemicals over a 6 month period can very a little. When you use drops a little inconsistency in the mix can make it read different. The relationship to salinity alkalinity and calcium and how they buffer and interact can give a little different reading. If your not using exactly 2ml and use 2.2 the test can read off. when I look at your graph I see instability on your alk. With alk not stable I suspect that you maybe experiencing percipitation. If you turn your dosers off do you experience a fall? It appears every time you run your ca up your alk falls. That is indicative of percipitation as the ca binds the alk. In these instances I suspect your mag was lower then 1150 and thus unable to bind with the alk before the ca.
  6. Mg - ca - alk - salinity has some interactions. Mag should be 3ish times ca. Mag vs ca also buffer alk. Systems with low mg ca relation can be subseptible to greater alk swings. If you alk and ca are the same then your mag should be the same and I would defer to the test kit being slightly off. My main question is why does it matter except from a testing standpoint. If my mag is anywhere between 1350 and 1600 I'm happy. If my ca is anywhere from 375 to 500 I'm happy. Ideally I shoot for 450 ca and 1400 mg If the ratio is off I get very slightly concerned and my do a water change (10%) to help restore the ionic balance but I will normally take no other action. And usually it's if my mag is like 1700 and my ca is 350. It's only happened 2 times due to hand dosing and fuzzy math. Most fresh saltwater in my experience is good on ca and lower on mg then I would like. The biggest question is Why stress over it?
  7. They are great. I initially bout SB reef bars. I wasn't happy with them mounting wise but quality felt OK. Stepped up the cash for the XHO and never looked back. They are head and shoulders better and more expensive. Every one wants to complain how expensive the hobby is and then they skimp on lights and wonder why they aren't successful raising photosynthetic plants/animals. SMH. rant not directed at you.
  8. You know I use them. The xho, not the tech.....
  9. How bout an actual automatic glass cleaner. Don't post links to startups and go fundme and other money beg ideas lol. I've seen them all but never an actual finished product. And no I dont need a camera or any other kind of stupid option with it, just an automatic glass cleaner that works.
  10. Remember it's always best to over complicate the matter to straight jacket proportions when it's a moot point . I honestly don't think the chiller will ever be needed and was probably a waste of time plumbing in. Should it actually be needed and actually have a problem with flow then it can be revisited on a theoretical and experimental level.
  11. I dislike y'all for me having to explain myself..... could you find a more abstract 11 year old Thesis from the technology university in Bangladesh..... considering sam is running a hammerhead or manta ray or something like that flow reduction is about equlivent of taking a cup of water out of a pool..... pentair says ten of thousand pools installed with bypass loops is fine, Including mine. The risk management and logistics of installing a 3rd pump to run the chiller thru wall is a waste of time when there is basically a small pool pump running your reef tank. make sure to notice gallon per hour in the diagram is in gallons per minute not gallons per hour.
  12. Weren't zoas your first love? dont make me go digging for pictures.
  13. The last words Ty spoke to his wife.........you can now catch his episode of unsolved mysteries. Farewell friend.

Acrylic is inert. Should be fine. Run some cubrisorb and poly filter in the sump. If it doesn't change color, you good.
  15. Some of us hide in shame too and understand your missing JF brain freeze, Jf mirror warmer, RR Asia Fire porites (which is actually maybe a monti)and JF vino. i also have Z's dream, Kung pao.
  16. Remove BP, add 4 cube a day algae scrubber, add cryptic zone, add 25 fish. Feed 5 cubes a day...... thats just what I would do.
  17. Big changes really fast works for me. remove filtration, feed more, add fish

You should be fine. Finally upgrading good to see.
  19. Your coral collection only has to be dismantled so you can be buried in your tank, I'm glad we aren't good enough friends for me to have to be a pall bearer...... Your funeral will have the slogan, "come on guys one last tank move".
  20. No sir, it's a proprietary blend of vitamins and minerals. And it has electrolytes, it's what corals crave.
