  1. My weekly update. This build is going sooooo slow, but I try to make some progress every weekend. Pulled everything from the cabinet and put some pvc liner on the bottom, it was a good test to see if all the pvc unions would allow disassembly (and it worked!) Then put it all back together + got the cable trays and Apex installed and running ...
  2. I've been happy with my Hanna alk meter so I think your reading consistently with that. Just wanted to make sure your swings were not false due to testing
  3. What test kit are you using? Have you tried back-to-back tests to see if it reads consistently? Also I think maybe you should check Mag too as it helps keep Cal more stable.
  4. Thanks! The frag tank build discussion is a smoke screen to hide the fact that I've been waiting over a year for my Reef Savvy 180 to be delivered
  5. At least the mystery is solved now. I'm amazed it did not cause more harm!
  6. You're confused. That drill in the picture is at least a year old, and you just failed to notice it when you brought your cadillac cordless with all the bells and whistles drill over to my place. I actually had mine out and ready to go and you laughed at it cause it did not have a headlight and GPS laser guided positioning for the bit with computer controlled gyros to keep it steady. My other drill is 30 years old. They did not sell cordless at that time as far as I recall. I keep it because its awesome.
  7. That was nerve wracking ...
  8. So, I've pretty much decided to run a CaRx on the frag tank. 67 gallons + sump is the volume. Space is somewhat limited in the cabinet. I'm a CaRx newb, so some questions for you experienced folks: 1) Do you think a 5lb bottle would last 6 months on an SPS heavy frag tank this size? 2) I like this GEO's small reactor, but it's set up for a regulator I am not familiar with: the carbon doser ... Anyone familiar with that regulator and have feedback positive/negative??? 3) Another unit that might fit my situation is this reef octopus. Anyone used this one or similar reef octopus? Feedback?? Reviews are sparse on (2) and (3) on google. (1) seems to get pretty good reviews, but I am unsure about a constantly cycling solenoid controlling the bubbles versus a needle valve
  9. Did a little more work yesterday ...
  10. So cool to be able to build in all the infrastructure you need!
  11. Yes, it is. It's a Turbo's Aquatics L2. Thought I'd give that a try instead of biopellets ...
  12. Made some progress on the return plumbing this weekend. So much more to do
  13. +1 - I really like my frag tank stand from Chris, and the attention to detail is special I need to take some pictures of the NASA like work he did on the lift. Pretty amazing Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Ohhh yes - pix!

  15. Thanks Juiceman - I think I am good on valves for now (I do need to grab that gate valve from Reburn eventually tho)
  16. Sure. Starting at the top, the blue 1/4" line is supply from the RODI unit. The black 3/8" line at the top is an air vent up into the attic, I'm trying to keep the tank airtight except for this vent since it's in the garage. The vent line goes through a carbon cannister and then to a ventilation dome on the roof. The pressure loop made of PVC is attached to an Pan World pressure rated pump. This line goes into the tank through a seal at the top, so it is airtight. This loop has ball valves for the blue 1/2" supply line into my SW mixing station, and 2 1/4" white lines to my DT and frag tank locations. These 1/4" lines would be to fill ATO containers, and to initially fill the tank. Harder to see are two 1/4" bulkheads on the top. These are for future changes. Eventually I plan to move the 1/4" ATO lines off the pressure loop and set up the RODI tank as a big ATO tank, using Avast Marine peristaltic pumps to pull directly to the sump (so no extra ATO container locally at the tank). Reburn, who inspired the design, hates that last idea, but I'm gonna give it a try Each of the lines has a mur-lok valve so I can detach a given line without back draining and making a mess. And finally, at the bottom there is a standard size hose bib. This can be fed by gravity, or it can be pressurized. It's made of PVC to avoid corrosion issues.
  17. Is it weird that I am excited about plumbing?
  18. Oh, that is too bad. You'll have to get a different skimmer I guess?
  19. Looks just like mine when it split, including green stringy stuff
  20. If it makes you feel any better 8 months is really fast for Reef Savvy. I won't even tell you how long I've been waiting ...
