  1. i have two koralia nano mags that work fairly well. For a tank that size, it should be more than sufficient. Although, I would invest in the deflector/rotating nozzle for it. It randomizes the water flow a little so that you dont end up with dead spots.
  2. my fiance got me into the hobby, so she's accountable for my spending...
  3. hehe yah I've seen that one.. Theres a 747 shaped smoker that the guys at gatorpit made for united/continental out in houston. I believe it makes the rounds to all the rodeos.
  4. thanks jeremy! you too! I wonder if adding led's to my smoker would be overkill... hmmmm
  5. I'm going with 5 LDD 700LHW's on each unit, for a total of ten drivers. Going to run it off two PS180's. I saw the thread about the 5up LDD board, AFTER I ordered the wired ones. Up to that point all I could find is the standalone ldd nests, and 4 up boards. I'll just have to get creative in cleaning everything up. Just received a notification that my heatsinks and LED's arrived. Drivers and what not should be here Thursday. Typhon possibly on Friday.
  6. So this project had been placed on the back burner during my fiance's move-in. Now that everything is settled, and our wedding is paid for, I was able to throw some money at the build. Updates are going to happen fast, as I have parts coming in every day of this week. Thursday I ordered all the parts for my light build 2 Makers LED 12" Heatsinks 2 Lumia 5.1 100 Watt Full Spectrum Dreamchips 10 LDD 700P's 1 Typhon PWM Controller 1 12 volt power supply for fans/typhon 2 56 volt ps180's. (LED Power supply) 1 Lock box 4 VGA 15pin connectors / 2 right angle 2 straight 2 vga cables 1 fused 220VAC (IPC) toggle/switch/illuminated 4 L 36" stainless steel 1/4" rods 15 2p2c spdif jumper cables ( makes for a total of 30 pins and 30 leads per fixture including fan power) Parts should start arriving Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. With the last parts coming in probably around thursday or friday. Friday I went shopping and picked up a bunch of plumbing parts. I'm fortunate to have a friend who runs a custom pond/pool company in town. He stopped by with his awesome ratcheting PVC cutters. It made the job take less than about 45 minutes to complete post design phase. Today I spent the day smoking some ribs and some brisket and of course, plumbing up the returns. I decided to build a nano manifold. But I didnt want it to take up much real estate behind the tank. So I altered my initial design to fit in the stand and tucked up out of the way. I used more 90's in the setup than I really cared to, but I'm using a mag 18 to push water into a 46 gallon. I can spare some pressure in lieu of convenience. I need some kind of suspension clamp to alleviate some weight on the current hangers.
  7. well the day has come! tomorrow morning me and a friend are going to plumb up the new tank :)

  11. transferred my knobby star from my frag tank to the rock tank. Sadly, the fact the tank has two harlequin shrimp in it, escaped me till now.....

  13. thinking of adding a clam to my office tank.. anyone have any suggestions on where to get one?

  14. haha me too... sometimes i look at the tank, and say hmm.. i bet this zoa would like more light.. only to see it hours later completely closed up or squinting. sigh... theres never enough room in the tank. on an positive note, the duncan is looking a little better today, its opened up a bit more. But its still not where it was just yet.
  15. eesh, what kind of truck are you working on? an international scout?
  16. hahaha.. another acronym to add to the references guide..
  17. go to images.google.com and search for 'atari breakout'... you're welcome.

  18. Thanks Sherita! I've removed the powerhead completely from the mix. I basically hit 'Undo' on all changes made to the tank since the duncan showed its first signs. Oddly enough, the flow it was getting before I moved the powerhead was much more turbid than after the spinstream was added. The only thing I can't undo at this point is removing the crab. (he's fast!)
  19. Yah Im going to give him a few days to adjust and spring back. It's amazing how much the LED's have changed its coloration vs. under my picos PC.
  20. yah i kicked myself for salinity swinging the tank... but in all honesty, the duncan is my favorite coral in the tank
  21. A few days ago I noticed my duncan closed up. Occasionally it closes up for a little while and opens back up. I wasnt sure what it could be, so I ran a barrage of tests. All of them are within spec. But then I noticed something else. My salinity had somehow climbed to 1.030! So I performed a water change and brought it back to 1.024/5 Could this be osmotic shock keeping him from opening? The only thing I've added in the last two weeks was an emerald crab. I'm not 100% certain he isnt nipping at it, but he appears to be predisposed with eating algae on the other side of the tank. Hardware wise, the only thing I've changed was adding a spin stream to the nozzle of my koralia nano. I've since moved the duncan to the other side of the tank, shutdown the koralia nano (temporarily), and turned my lights down to the bare min. I'm hoping one of these is the issue here and not something else. Could it be not enough light? Since converting to the LED system, I've had the intensity about as low as it can get. Are there any good tank indicators of when you have too much light vs. not enough? Currently the duncan is partially open.
  22. what is your current light cycle? And what bulbs/light fixture are you using?
