  1. Man, sorry to hear that Kim. How long were you gone for? I went to Disney World for a week in July; our neighbors (who have NO experience with saltwater tanks) took care of my 60 gallon. I was SO paranoid. I called and texted them twice a day to check on things. With the exception of some algae on the glass, I came home to a healthier-looking tank than when I left! Just the luck of the draw, I guess. At least you have some stuff coming from AquaSD... their things are always gorgeous. I always use the frozen cubes of Mysis and the variety pack. I've never tried the flat pack, but I'm considering switching over now after reading your comparison. Be sure to post some pics of the new stuff once it all gets settled in!
  2. I've got the same thing going right now on a rock. I'm just going to suction mine off while doing a water change tonight.
  3. Wow... I definitely feel as though I should start using gloves. That poor girl...
  4. If you part out, I would have interest in tank and stand, depending on price.
  5. This acans colony is my favorite thing in the tank. He kicked off an LPS obsession for me! Sorry for the lousy pic, it was taken from my phone about a month ago. About 20 or so heads now
  6. With all due respect, are you sure you're not adding too much too soon? That's a huge swing in bioload in just one month's span, going from a brand new setup (unless I'm missing something?) to eight fish. Just my opinion. My tank has been up for four months and I have four fish, and I was concerned for awhile that I may have been moving too quickly. Have you tested your water recently? I was just thinking skewed parameters may have led to a death
  7. Any updates or new stuff, Kim?
  8. Dang... I wish I could get freebies like THAT! Looks good, man
  9. Well he came off extremely easy. As soon as the tongs touched him, he released his grip on the rock. Thanks everyone!
  10. Well I have a bunch of loose corals on my rocks that aren't epoxy-ed down. Like, just this morning when I woke up, my frogspawn was laying on its side in the sand with the urchin sitting right in the spot that I keep it. I found a member in the club who is going to trade me a frag for him today. I really haven't even had a problem with algae, and didn't before I got him either. I like him and my wife thinks he's gorgeous, but I'm just sick of always having to fix my corals because of him climbing on them.
  11. He's a tuxedo urchin. When I first got him, I accidentally grazed my hand against him slightly and the was definitely a sting to it. I'd like to avoid contact with him. I'll kept the tong trick in mind. Thanks, Sherita
  12. Yeah, I didn't think of that. I'll probably try that in the morning. Thanks! I read that anemones will release when you use an ice cube on their footing. Any try that with an urchin?
  13. Anyone have any tips? I'm getting rid of my little guy tomorrow, but it just dawned on me that I may have difficulty in prying him off the rock/glass. Any help is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks guys, Caleb
  14. So after no signs of ich for over a month, I noticed some larger white spots on my Kole Tang yesterday. These spots were more "blotchy" than what I know as ich, and he had them in between the eyes and on the right side of his body. I was thinking he may have scraped against a rock or something, but I just noticed more of it on the left side of his body when it wasn't there yesterday. He really looks like he's in bad shape. Since noticing ich the first time, I've added two fish (Red Scooter Blenny and Green Mandarin) and a few corals (single Mushroom, Ricordea, and Nuclear Green Palys). Aside from that, nothing has changed in the tank. I've been keeping up with water changes, and my parameters are all where they should be. If anything, my tank is healthier than it was at the first sight of ich. Does anyone have suggestions as to what I should do? Is it time to QT him?
  15. I've heard very good things about the Big Green Egg from friends who have them. Personally, I have a pretty dang big Brinkman charcoal grill that has a smoker sidebox. The sidebox is quite small, but I've smoked briskets on the main grill for 6 hours with very good results. I bought it from Home Depot for $200 back in February.
  16. Absolutely beautiful piece. If only I could justify that kind of money to my wife...

    ICK

I recently battled ich with my Kole Tang, and got a lot of helpful advice from people here. This is what has worked for me: Immediate water change. The sooner the better. Make sure the fish are still swimming and eating at a healthy rate. If not, you may consider getting them into a quarantine tank. I've been taking a full cube of frozen food and sticking it in a shot glass. Then I put just enough garlic extract in the shot glass to cover the food and then put in a quick splash of vitamin c. I swirl it around a little bit, then stick it in the fridge for 6 hours or so. Come feeding time, my tang turns into a Saltwater Swine, gobbling up as much as he can. I believe the vitamin c in the food has helped his immune system, and it doesn't hurt my clowns either. I still notice little bits of ich on him here and there, but its far better than what it was initially. I have a fire shrimp that picks off the dead tissue on the fish anytime they're near each other, so that has helped too. My tang is swimming and eating normally, so I haven't been too concerned with him. But I do still keep a watchful eye on him. As long as your fish are behaving like they should, just keep up with you water changes and supplement their diet, and hopefully they'll be fine. This is what worked for me anyways. Just trying to pay it forward.
  18. Bump... anyone? Some zoas or anything?
  19. I've had a Tuxedo Urchin in my tank since June 19th. I got it from a fellow reefer on the site, who had it in his tank for some time. My problem is that I have a few corals that aren't epoxy-ed down to the rocks, so when the urchin climbs on them, he makes a mess. I'm looking to trade for a frag of something, if possible. If anyone is interested, let me know what you have. I'm unable to drop off or meet somewhere due to a hectic schedule, but I do work very close to home and am able to run over there whenever. I'm located in Buda.
  20. Unhappy wife, you get chased with a knife? Ha, I like that one!
