  1. Microbubbles are just tiny little bubbles. You'd see them coming from your return pump.
  2. Today I decided to get an additional 10K bulb to add to my T5 fixture. I needed to have a bit more depth penetration in the light output. I was considering getting an LED spotlight, but I figured I would try an additional 10K since they are way cheaper. So far things are looking good. My Kenya Trees are still hiding a bit but everything else is out and happy.
  3. Hmm, there are a couple of things it could be: 1) Just bubbles 2) Eggs If you don't see anything in the middle of the bubbles then it is just bubbles. If you have microbubbles in your water then they can collect under rocks, causing bubbles. It happens in my tank if the water level drops or the pump needs cleaning.
  4. Are they green or just clear like regular bubbles?
  5. Skimmer, UV sterilizer, return pump, caeto, calerpa. All for keeping my water pretty.
  6. May 5th. Though I can't really say with any accuracy without thumping the watermelon. Is her belly button poking out yet? Maybe a picture of the baby lump would give us some help.
  7. Neat. I'll hit you up next week and we can set something up.
  8. Sweet, I'd like to order some next Friday. Should I just email Russell or would it be better to do a group order?
  9. Sweet, I want to try some out sometime. How often are you going to order?
  10. Uh oh, someone is a potty mouth. Haha. Don't let Laura see this, she will wash your mouth out with soap. Are you going to switch completely to the HPD? Did you get a new hair cut?
  11. Bring your battle scar too! I wanna see!
  12. Good prevention is making sure that you have adequate flow. The infection starts if the coral has an injury and there is insufficient flow to move detritus and other waste from it. Kind of like an infected cut... if you wash it off and keep it clean, it can get better.
  13. I lost a torch colony with 15+ heads. I was only able to save three of the heads.
  14. I always end up turning the inlet to the side. It makes it quieter. I think that they are meant to be down so that the pipe can be lower and still get water in it. You shouldn't have to start a syphon. The water pressure should get it all flowing.
  15. Aren't these more of a selective breeding type arrangement? I thought that you had to breed different "grades" of clowns to get the variants and even then it wasn't guaranteed.
  16. Yep, exactly. I am concerned that while in the beginning captive breeding can making fish less expensive, in the long run it could cause problems for those of us in the hobby, i.e. fish that are not healthy or require drool cups. In the long run it could also make the fish more expensive because of the need to capture new breeding stock to get rid of some of the genetic mistakes. I know I don't want a fish that is its own grandpa.
  17. There isn't a lot of inbreeding for clowns in nature. Since the first few stages of the fry development is fairly non-motile they get swept off with the current. The other fish in the harem are usually from neighboring clutches.
  18. All the eggs got eaten.
  19. I think this means that Brooks is bringing us all some of his awesome acans.
  20. Count me in! I'll have to frag some stuff. What to frag, what to frag...
  21. Since my clownfish spawned I have been thinking a lot about healthy captive breeding. I know there are a lot of places out there that specialize in captive breeding, but one question keeps popping up... how do they avoid inbreeding? Is there a pedigree type program for fish? If not, there should be. I have seem some pretty "Appalachia" looking animals. I grew up on a farm and we would "borrow" breeding bulls to introduce new genetic material into the livestock. All of those types of transactions had papers that went along with the exchange so that you knew exactly where your "stud" was coming from.
  22. Awesome. I'm glad to hear that the red bugs are gone and the corals are happy. Do you have a camera person or do you just use a tripod?
  23. Is that like "check your TCP/IP settings"?
