Vernon Saunders
I got my Apex all hooked up and set up early this morning. I am looking to see if anyone has a thermometer that is verified or has some spare thermometers that I can use to properly calibrate my probe. mFrame
if you have a digital thermometer (like you use when you're sick), you can put it in a ziplock bag, squeeze out the air, seal it, then use it.
Vernon Saunders
I tried one of those and the temp of the water is too low for mine to read (85° F is apparently it's lowest measurable temp and lower it just reads "L"). What is the range for yours? Maybe yours has a wider range I could use.

+Dogfish
I use an acurite digital one like for cooking big meat here in Texas. It is right on the money in boiling water 212 . It read 98 stuck in my mouth. I guess I was not quite med rare.

It looks like this but its the older model. It was given to me as a gift when I moved here 2 years ago Since I'm a vegetarian I dont use it much for grilling. Just when I grill for company. Little do they know I test my mix water and QT tank water with it. https://www.acurite.com/digital-meat-thermometer-wireless-pager-probe-for-oven-grill-barbecue-fryer-smoker-00278.html

takoattack
Fluke 62 Infrared Thermometer Series Most of the digital temp probes can drift, and have a significant offset on them, I use an IR thermometer to check my digital probes. also, BRS recommends this one: https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/traceable-long-stem-calibration-thermometer.html
Vernon Saunders
I know that BRS recommends that thermometer but I have a hard time convincing my wife we need a $65 thermometer. So I was putting a feeler out to see what people had that I could borrow or if they had ideas on cheap thermometers that are accurate enough I could average their readings to calibrate.
