Sascha D.
I have had very little luck with Acropora and CUC critters in a tank as young as yours. I truly wish you greater success than I have had in the past.
Dan H
Thanks. So far the CUC critters are having a blast and doing a great job. The only Acro that was not DOA appears to be doing fine.
FarmerTy
I source from everywhere for variety too. Online, local members, LFSs, and trips to other cities. I still have a lineage of RBTAs from Evansville Indiana, fungias from San Diego, and some acros from Midland!

Dan H
You can't bark... Scares the Ty away... Gotta lay down a trail of sugar, then hit him over the head with a hammer.
FarmerTy
There is a pretty rigorous application process. Written applications with a photocopy of your ID attached... at least 3 references of people that have seen your tank and can vouch for your husbandry skills. Interviews with members from your last reef club and probably the worst, submittal of water samples to verify that the new home will be adequate for the SPS orphans. FarmerTy
Did I mention the extensive waiting list?
Dan H
Like I said, sugar and a hammer. Geeze Ty, that's almost worse than when I got my DoD security clearance.
Sascha D.
Did I mention the extensive waiting list? By "waiting list" he isn't kidding. I tried to get him to frag a nub of stylo for about a year. Like I said, sugar and a hammer. Geeze Ty, that's almost worse than when I got my DoD security clearance. Haha! I have an active TS SCI. That is a fun application! FarmerTy
Where did you think I got the SOPs for the application process from? You're lucky I excluded the part of interviewing your kindergarten teacher! Ohhh... sugar... yummy... ohhh... more sugar...

Your application was almost approved but then the water sample showed bits of macro algae in there indicative of a display tank macro algae setup. The application was denied vehemently from that point pending removal of said algae from the DT.
Dan H
DoD was 7 years of residence with at least 1 person that knew you at each - No repeats, no direct relations. Plus finger prints and a massive questionnaire. It was shortly after college, so I had 6 different apartments in 7 years. Yeah, fun. Just keep following that sugar... Don't look up. Reburn
I would be careful I have heard that Ty has a massive body guard that is also on the coral placement list.
FarmerTy
I would be careful I have heard that Ty has a massive body guard that is also on the coral placement list. He's good for intimidating people but don't ask him to clean the glass of your tank for you... unless you want to pick up all your corals off the floor. Dan H
Son of a!!! So we were just feeding the tank some mysis (CuC has to eat ya know...) and looking around with red flashlights, when we saw a mysis being dragged around. Thought that's odd, it wasn't a snail, so we looked closer. It was a stinking ISOPOD!!! Another one!!?!?!? Well, we only saw it for about 5 seconds before it hid, so we didn't get the best look at it... However, we think it was a different type than the parasitic blood sucker we had attack our firefish. We'll try to see if we can some how manage to get a pic of it, but I highly doubt it. I suppose the only positive news is there are no fish in there, and the plan is to wait until July to put the fish from the QT into the DT. If he is parasitic, hopefully he'll starve by then, but the catch is he was trying to eat some mysis... So that leads me to think he doesn't only eat living fish. Crap. Dan H
If I catch it (good or bad) I will. It's still a relative of the bloodsuckers either way.
Dan H
Because I couldn't kill the isopod, I killed an aiptasia.

Dan H
Ok, everything is in the tank and waiting on the sandbed to find the perfect spot. We ended up getting a HUGE order from AquaSD, and a few frags from Exquisite Corals. Everything arrived safely! Both were packed very well, and so far I must say, I am really really pleased! AquaSD hooked us up with not 1, but 2 freebies! Most of the frags are at least 1"+ and they have really good color. Still waiting for some of the zoas to open, but the SPS's look fantastic, and most importantly, the Ricordea Yuma is looking happy! Meg is ecstatic! She's wanted one ever since we got in the hobby, so that's a good 14 years or so... Jimmy really went above this time. Both SPS frags were very large! The super Mario zoanthids frag has about 15+ polyps! Wow! On with the show!
