That's a serious antenna. The house we had in Michigan, the previous owner was a ham guy and had some huge antenna in the back yard. The realtors told him to remove it before listing. We could still see the mounts.

He looks big enough that he may accidentally damage the coral, but I again don't think it's intentionally trying to eat your acro. I probably should have documented our nasty acro-eating crab when it happened. Would have been useful for others to see what that looked like. I actually had to stab him with tweezers to get him out. Lil stinker was running from 1 acro to the next beating up on them.

I don't think he's eating the acro, he's just looking for algae. They aren't exactly smart. We had an acro eating crab and trust me, you'd know if it were eating that coral. The tips would all be mangled up and what not. You can see in the video that the crab is gently trying to scrap algae with his claws, not smash the acro to get tissue.

Upon closer inspection, I'm very jealous of the wiring. If mine wasn't already turned into a rats nest, I would totally be inspired to redo mine better.

I'd like to propose to all newbies and old members alike that if all of us make a valiant effort to try to attend some of the meetings, a lot of this negativity will go away. Meeting people in person always helps create a more personal relationship, and brings a higher level of empathy when posting. I know when I first posted on ARC a few quips were made and I thought some people were being a bit of jerks, but after meeting some of them, I realized there was no malicious intent what-so-ever. I realize this could be a huge ask as this hobby tends to attract introverts and meetings are the equivalent of torture, but I promise you it's not that terrible. Beyond this, I have been involved in some strongly opinionated discussions on this board and felt that 99% of the time everyone was respectful even when disagreeing. I don't bother posting on any other boards (or god forbid, Facebook groups) about this hobby because most of the time people are just being negative, or worse yet, regurgitating completely unsubstantiated opinions that are frequently terrible or even dangerous. You want to know how all the false information gets embedded permanently in this hobby, just look at the awful responses elsewhere. I will admit that I do get upset when I see or hear about people that are about to make (or have already made) a terrible mistake that's completely preventable. Unfortunately, it's hard to politely tell someone that they are about to make a potential mistake. I think this could be a common issue that people are complaining about. Unsolicited advice can come off as arrogant or condescending. I suspect that almost always the person dispensing the advice is not doing it to be a jerk but instead they are hoping to prevent heartache. But the reality is we do have a responsibility to help others, and help ensure that people provide good husbandry to the animals we keep. It's our responsibility (ALL OF US) as participants in this hobby to do what we can to help others, to help them be successful. If this means reaching out to say a kind word, or perhaps rephrasing something so that it's not as aggressive a statement, then we should do our best to apply this very modest change in behavior. I hope y'all will join me in being mindful of others' feelings, even when we disagree, and more importantly, when dispensing unsolicited advice, perhaps lay it down softly so that it's not taken with offense.

I'm running a Reef Octopus and it's been a great CaRX. High build quality, and easy access. I'm running the carbon doser as well and love it. Definitely worth the money. With respect to the 5lb bottle, if you can fit the 10, get it. I switched to a 20lb bottle and love it. The bigger bottles hold a higher pressure longer so it stay more consistent on the regulator. As the PSI starts falling when the bottle nears empty, you have to fudge around with the regulator pressure. Bigger is better. I have the 20 + 2x 5lbs. I may sell one of the 5's and keep the 2nd just to have a spare when filling the 20.

No sand in QT, save yourself the trouble. In fact, nothing that can't be cleaned easily, no rocks - just PVC pipes for them to hide in. That's all you need.

You roll the dice.

Potters are notoriously fickle. It may make sense to put one of those in last. Until they adapt to eating frozen/dry food, they will pick on the LR so make sure there's stuff for it to pick at. Ours took a few weeks of watching the other fish pig out at dinner time before she figured out that we were dispensing tasty food. Now she's a complete pig. You shouldn't have to spend money buying pods if the system is producing enough on it's own. Look around with a flashlight at night and if you can see pods running all over the LR, then you're probably ok.

Don't worry about the fire worm. They are cuc.

Road biking (used to race but don't have enough time to train anymore), mountain biking, scuba diving, work. That's kinda the sum total of my awake time at this point.

Don't be ashamed, everyone kills fish in this hobby and it's not as though you were neglectful. It's unfortunate but it happens. Hopefully it results in learning - not just for you but for others reading about your experience.
