  1. Gonna have to be on the list for the new setup...
  2. Haha! Next time I'll just go around my tank and ask, "You wanna buy this? You wanna buy this?" you got pm callahan!!!...you do that to me all the time where I had to start to leave my wallet in the car....I actually have a piece of that that I ordered from @#$%* and I have NOT killed it...it has grown from the size if a quarter to about 3X3" in a very short time...and just an FYI...I paid $50 for that quarter size piece.... You mean I can get $50 for each quarter size piece of this? Looks like I need to find about 50 suc...err...great people like you. I could fund my new tank!
  3. I guess I may have to frag mine again. It's freaking huge. Round, about 8" in diameter... Very bright piece.
  4. Awesome closed loop setup!
  5. I've got one spot that appeared the other day. Gonna grab a few peppermints on my way home today. We'll see if anything thinks they're a snack.
  6. I did the same thing...refroze and it has been fine.
  7. Man it would be dangerous to walk into that place.
  8. The wife suggested a crowbar to lift each corner enough to put the magic sliders under. So now I only need to buy magic sliders and a crowbar and remove 300ish lbs of water and rock. Oh...and clean up the office enough to move the tank. Oh...and build a rig to hold the lights that are currently suspended from the ceiling. Hmm...it's gonna be a while before I need to worry about what kind of overflow I need.
  9. It's definitely under 3200 lbs...I'd put it at around 1000 lbs...with magic sliders, the catch is lifting it enough to get the sliders under it...well...for any of the methods. I could pull about 20 gallons from the tank and a good bit more from the sump to lighten the load a lot. I could pull more than 20 gallons if I started pulling rock as well. Which may be the best option.
  10. Stand was built by me and should be way overbuilt...but the idea of trying to move it all as a unit just sounds crazy. And it's on carpet...which probably makes it worse
  11. I caught mine with a net and patience. My diamond goby always went to "hide" in the same spot. But came out to look for food. So I held the net just over the hole for a bit without moving, then dropped in food. When it came out for food I quickly lowered the net over the hole and made a quick movement outside the tank. It darted right into the net..
  12. Somewhere between "any day now" and "a few months from now." Two things I really need to do are to clean up my office (where the tank is) and figure out my complete strategy for the new tank. The new tank is going right where the old tank is...and I really want to start over with new rocks (probably Marco dry rock). So I'm starting to consider the idea of trying to set things up in my office so I can move the existing tank about 5' to the left and be able to setup the new tank and have it running when I transfer the existing livestock and coral. Otherwise I have to have the rock completely cycled elsewhere and then do a massive changeover between the two. But the idea of trying to move a tank 5' to the left is overwhelming. And the idea of actually cleaning up my office may be even worse.
  13. What's funny about this one is that it looks like he ended up making an external version of the one I put a picture of in my first post.
  14. Yeah. I'm still working on justifying the cost of just the tank to myself. LOL. $400 in addition hurts my head. That does seem a bit high for a little cut out but given the cost of their tanks...
  15. Cutting out a section of 1/2" glass on the back doesn't sound easy to me... I know it adds around $400 to the cost through AGE. I'd love to have it, but I wouldn't want to do it myself...and paying $400 extra for it...sheesh...
  16. Doing that kind of return externally was my original goal. The cost of having the grate inserted on a glass tank is somewhat prohibitive. On acrylic you can just cut the slots, but I don't want go acrylic. Also there is some skimming benefit to the internal (without grills), though it concerns me about fish getting in. All sorts of stuff to consider and think about...yeesh.
  17. I've read the RC thread almost from the start to the end. The consensus seems to be that it "might" work with a wave. Basically you'd have to set the siphon to be at the absolute minimum amount of water that could enter at any time. The wave action would produce higher flow periods and lower flow periods, which would mean that the open pipe would, at times, get a decent amount of flow, which could cause noise. Basically, it wouldn't fail, but it wouldn't be the most silent either. Though, with a wave, a silent overflow isn't necessarily assured with any setup, now that I consider it. It's still the way I'm leaning. I love the overall concept. I'm a little concerned about setting it up with eurobracing. I'll have to have the box extend out far enough that I can work within it to setup the pipes, etc... But I'm still curious about other ideas.
  18. Trying to decide which kind of overflow I'd like in my next system. The tank is likely to be 60x24x24, eurobraced. I'd like to avoid corner overflows. They distract the view. I was thinking about going with one of these: Which is apparently one of the most silent around, but it requires maintaining a siphon and isn't likely to work well with waves. I'm not positive I'm going to end up with a wavebox, or pseudo waves with vortechs, but I don't want to limit myself to never having them. I think I'd rather drill (or have drilled) the back than the bottom, allowing for a shorter box. My current tank has a durso standpipe, and, while not loud, it's not terribly silent...
  19. Yeah, the plumbing is easy (though I would like to pump it directly out to a drain), but the volume is the greater trick. I need to have the return section have the full volume that I'd like to remove for water changes. Gotta get that part designed right.
  20. That actually enhances the reasoning for what I've been considering for my next setup. I'd like to be able to easily pump the number of gallons I would like to change out of my sump and then refill there. The ability to then let the temperature lower before restarting the return would be a great reason to do it. Thanks for the idea!
  21. a 10 gallon water change on my 75 can bring my temp up pretty quick. I have to be careful. I had been mixing my salt for several days a few weeks back and took the temperature of the water that was mixing late in the afternoon...the water came in at 101 degrees!! I figured out I have to mix, then leave the mixing pump off overnight and then turn it back on for a bit in the morning to make sure everything is stirred up before doing the change. Even then I will drop in about 4 liter bottles of ice to cool it down a bit. Makes the water in the upper 80s. No chiller for me though...
  22. Loving the idea of the separate electrical cabinet. Gonna have to consider that one. I'm curious how he deals with the outside temperature of his mixed saltwater from his mixing station. I'm assuming he doesn't pump directly from the mixing station into the tank. I have enough of an issue with that during the summer with my mixing station in the garage...
  23. If you want an AC III, I'll have one for sale very soon. Replacing it with an Apex that just arrived. Send me a PM. Should be back from vacation late tomorrow. Probably change it out on Sunday.
  24. I'm slightly freaked over the idea if changing tanks voluntarily. I can't imagine going through an emergency upgrade...and documenting the whole thing.
  25. Crap...got too busy preparing for vacation and forgot. Ugh!!!
