  1. Seriously, don't buy the Coralife. You can get a much better used skimmer for the same money here on the board. You didn't mention it but are you using an auto top-off? If you aren't, then a skimmer will not work very efficiently. A skimmer is set for a water height in the skimmer or tank. When that water level drops, then the skimmer loses almost all of it's efficiency and becomes almost useless. I learned this the hard way.
  2. Selling the cone thing already?
  3. The headband is just so special.
  4. Sorry. I was speaking from memory and misquoted the 850. I have 2 1050's in my 75 and it seems just about right. They don't seem to be as quite as strong as the older models, perhaps because they are controllable?
  5. what about 2 of the smaller evolutions, the 850 for example?
  6. I think that if you just walk away and the mortgage company repossesses and then sells the house for 1/2 what you owe, then (I think) you can be held liable for the balance. You might want to consider a bankruptcy. This is an area where I strongly recommend professional advice.
  7. Good luck, Dena. 11% is virtually usury. I thought mine was bad at 6 and 7/8's. Have you considered just walking away?
  8. Happy Birthday! Hope you have a good one. Did you decide on a nitrate test?
  9. Thanks. That is certainly true. I feel much better.
  10. My u-tube started leaking rather badly where it was connected to the outflow nipple. I disconnected it and now my tank does not have a return. I have the circulation pumps running but the water is not being oxygenated. Will the fish and corals live till Home depot opens in the morning, roughly 12 hours? I have a couple of air pumps that I can hook up and blow air into the tank. Is that necessary? There was enough water underneath to trip the UFI breaker. That is a leak.
  11. Marking this project off the list might be a trifle premature. You might want to revisit the project in about 6 weeks - after the sleep depravation sets in.
  12. There is nice USED Current t5 for sale on the board for $150. My best advice, jump on it while it is still available.
  13. I would choose the T5 fixture to avoid the heat issue. I like this one. I have the 48in version. I got my 48in for the price they are listing. Wait for a sale if you can. http://www.marinedepot.com/Current_USA_SunDial_T5_HO_w_Timers_LED_24_Inch_T5_Fluorescent_Light_Fixtures-Current_USA-CU01150-FILTFIT54U-vi.html
  14. I'll watch him closer. The only algae on the back glass that I can see is coraline and he is not touching that. I wonder if it is truly flatworms tho. I don't see them anyplace else but on the back glass. I tried to take pictures but my camera is just not up for that level of photography. I'll just keep watching. It's a tough job but someone has to do it.
  15. I just saw my lawnmower blenny eating the flatworms off the back glass of my tank. Is that normal behavior? I know he must be hungry cause my tank doesn't have much in the way of algae anymore. I was debating about using flatworm exit but I was hesitatant due to the stories i read about the flatworm toxins. YEA Blenny!
  16. the Drs Foster and Smith run specials on that stuff sometimes. They also have $8.99 flat rate shipping.
  17. Will you be available tomorrow sometime?
  18. There is also the heating from the sun. It heats the roof and attic which eventually starts heating the walls. At night, the heat absorbed by the house starts to radiate back into the atmosphere, thus heating up the house. An attic fan is excellent for alleviating this type of heating.
  19. Why did you decide not to use it? and what did you use instead? Just curious.
  20. I need about 20 lbs (half a 5 gallon bucket) of sand for my sump. I think I'd prefer it to be dead and infect it with my choice of live sand. Does anyone have any they'd like to get get rid of?

    Baffles

Westbery, your welcome. My name is Ric, my screen name is RJohn. I am also called Santa Ric. I think I am going to add a 6 inch deep sandbed in the middle chamber with some cheato. I have always had a nitrate problem. If it helps, the middle chamber is exacly 9 inches wide. The 3rd chamber is 10.5 inches with thebaffles, return pump and phosphate reactor. The first chamber is 11 inches and has my skimmer and the outflow. If I was making this from scratch, I would plan on the chamber with the skimmer being at least 12 or 13 inches.
