  1. <--cant figure out how to edit the post but the coral is gone.
  2. i've got some montipora capricornis thats starting to overgrow my tank so i need to thin it out. right now in very close (8") proximity of a 25w pc actinic and a 150w halide its a faded pink color, but under a more subdued lighting arrangement, or being deeper in the tank its actually purple. i have a frag about the size of two fingers or so, willing to trade for any size frag of any one type of SPS, or any one of a few select types of LPS. not exactly a high demand coral but its heathly, if your interested just make me an offer... - chris.
  3. that was pretty quick! i didnt realize it when i was over there last that the upgrade was coming so soon! what a goliath tank that thing is, great score! looking forward to watching that thing fill in.
  4. to make things easier you might be able to drain the tanks water into trash cans without removing any of the rocks. then lift one side of the tank stand high enough to get a furniture dolly under it, then do the same with the other side. move the tank into its temporary location then just put the water back in.
  5. i actually bought one of thier lights a few years back. it was exactly the same as the coralife fixture without the fans and was a fraction of the cost. works just as well though.
  6. i clip the shaft off the plug with dykes then glue the disk w/ frag to the rocks. i like caferacermikes idea better though.
  7. have you added anything new lately that could have introduced them into your system???
  8. you got it! its pretty easy to build, let me know if you need any help with anything? you'll get a kick out of this! i'v been wanting to add the actinic light back onto the tank to add to the MH thats on there now. i thought i could build a little shroud to cover the light and then find a way to mount it out of the way of the MH. after i got to thinking about, i figured the best plan of action would be to cut the front 1/4 off of the origional hood since it already fits the tank. then i could mount the actinic light inside of it and the light would end up in the tank instead of in my living room. also, there would be plenty of room for the MH still. so thats exactly what i did. i ran the hood through my table saw and used some 1/8" acrylic to make some mounts. i mounted the light and i hijacked the origional wiring and ballast from the hood and put it all on a timer. it took about an hour.
  9. its not much of a mod, but i get this fliter floss from aquatek that goes to a tunze filter. i cut it into pieces that fit the second chamber then put them on top of the removable grate.

    Snail ID

razor sharp i have like a million zillion quadrillion of those! they're harmless if your wondering? i think marc levenson id'd them for me once but i dont remember what they are? sorry.
  11. that tank in discount electronics must be new because i just recently (4-5 months ago) installed new countertops for thier laptop bar. i deffinatly would have noticed a massive salt tank! there's an 800g inwall fish only tank at the top of the hilton condos downtown. i was working in the guys condo and he was telling my how it cost him a small fortune to set it up. it was full of giant plastic cup sponges and stuff. there's also a 150 softie tank in the room behind the reception desk in the hilton condos. there's also a pretty big soft coral tank in the office building at the north west corner of spicwood springs and mopac. its a black granite building and you can just walk in there and check it out cause its on the ground floor mezanine. there's nobody there to stop you. the tanks probably 100-120 or something? i also came across a really nice 100 in a plastic surgery office in the medical offices at lamar and medical pkwy. the guy has this really unique white leather thats "supposedly" supposed to be one of the last of its kind. he's donated a bunch of it to various public aquariums for efforts to keep it alive. the tank is another soft coral tank, but this one has the biggest shrooms ive ever seen! its really nice!
  12. did they say when they anticipate getting any corals in?
  13. the way mine is mounted is just by being such a tight fit. i built it with zero play in the opening so that its fits nice and snug. i actually had to cut a bit off the tanks frame to get it into place because when i built it i was still using the hood and needed all the room i could get! since there is like NO room under the stock hood it had to be ultra low profile. the housing height was built to fit the components exactly with no extra room. i didnt use the suggested method on RC of the electrical box or whatever it was. i built a custon acrylic box. you cant really tell from this view but it doesnt go above the rim of the tank. its on the back left corner. i absolutley LOVE the JBJ ATO! its such an awsome little thing, i have nothing but great stuff to say about it! you literally just figure the height neede on the floats, plug the thing in and boom, there you go, simple as that!
  14. sorry, i forgot to update the thread. everything is gone.
  15. i guess your right about the evap. i might go that route now? i have the JBJ ATO. it works great and the float fits just fine in the 3rd chamber. i forgot there was a valve on the skimmer, i think i took mine off? there is no kit for the swirler stein, you have to make the whole thing. here's a pic i took last night...
  16. i've modded my nano a bit, nothing too extensive yet but im working on it. i got my fuge in the middle chamber w/ a 15w spiral compact flourecent and i've replaced my stock hood with a 150w MH. i also have my k-nano on a DIY swirler stein that rotates it back and forth 90 degrees. coming up here im thinking of drilling the back glass to add an over flow so i can add a sump. i like your idea of pumping water from the display up into the sump w/ a gravity feed back into the display. i would do it like that to save myself the trouble of drilling the tank, but that would mean that any evaporation would end up showing in the display and i dont want to keep the float switch for my ATO where it can be seen. i also use the biocube skimmer and i dont know why people dont like it? ialso dont know how people "dial it in" ? there are no settings on it, you just stick it in the tank and let it do its thing. i used to change my airstone every month but im noticing that it works alot better after not being changed for 6 months. occasionally it blows the lid off the collection cup.
  17. im retracting my RSVP. i got word that the goat wont actually be there so im out! really tho, i dont think im gonna make it.
  18. i still have everything except the neon pink zoas if anybody is interested? looking for live rock
  19. did i hear goat? sweet, im totally in! just playin' but for real though, i think im gonna try to make it to this one so count me in.
  20. i got those from www.yourreef.com out of roseville california. i live in manor. i figure that 1 colony of zoas is worth a small frag of SPS? nothing big or ultra extravigant. that or a few pieces of live rock? whatever your willing to part with that i dont already have? i probably wont be attending thge next meeting (typical of me ) and i work in Austin so im there everyday. im not always there all day though. normally only in the morning while i load my truck and head off to some other city.
