    Got Sand?

Well I have a goby, lawnmower, and a psudochromis. I dont think they would eat too many of them.

    Got Sand?

Dang! I had been reading your upgrade thread as well. I take it you did not move your sand from your old tank into ther new one? Sorry the limestone thing did not work out.

    Got Sand?

I dont know if this is the right place to post this but I really need some good live sand. I would love a few pounds of sand with anything living. I have 140 pounds of sand and have not seen anything in there. If anyone has some good sand with worms and all they are will to give/sell, PLEASE let me know. Can you please help a FOWLR guy out? My tank has been running for a little less than a year and I see noting in the sand.

    Sumps

I have heard that you can get some cheaper lighting from Home Depot/Lowes to light the fuge. They sell a clip on light that takes a small CF bulb. I dont have a fuge but see alot of folks off Reef Central using that setup. Sorry, I cant answer the sand question. I would think that if the flow was pretty slow it would not cause a sand storm. You could also do live rock if you are just looking at additional filtration.
  6. Yeah, the math killed me! Am I right in saying that if I do two 1 inch drains, I should be better off then joining the two drains with a T in the middle? My bulkheads are 1 inch out of the tank. All I have to do is glue the lines on.
  7. Got it. Thanks for the quick replies.
  8. I like it. You can’t beat the price at less than $200 shipped. The NW200 comes with the Ocean Runner 3500 pump which is quiet and cool. I keep my sump level about 8 inches and have the stand pipe as low as it can go and pull some nasty gunk from my tank. I have not done any mods but I hear you can mod the NW and dramatically increase the performance.
  9. Thanks Rich. I too have Koralia's providing most of the in-tank flow. I have one #4 right now and will be getting another #4 tomorrow. I dont have a fuge, yet. I am looking to change out my 29G sump with a 30G so its no so tight with the skimmer (Octopus NW200). I plan to drill a hole to join my new sump and an older acrilic tank (future fuge) together with a bulkhead. This is one reason I was thinking of the dual drain option.
  10. No worries. Take your time. It may be better to collect several salts and test out of the same batch of RO/DI. Sorry for the off topic reply. Thanks again for testing the salt. James
  11. Thanks Gabriel. I have already built the two drain setup and was leaning that way. My return pump is a nasty RIO 2500 so I am getting at most 500GPH through the sump. I agree that I want to keep that a little low so the skimmer and future fuge can do their work. I do plan on upgrading the return pump to an Ocean Runner 3500 when the wife gives me budget. That will put my overflow around 600 - 700GPH after head loss. Not to change topic but have you tested the Red Sea salt? James
  12. Looks great. Congrats on the upgrade. The plumbing looks very clean and laid out well.
  13. Do you still have the 30G regular tank? I am looking for a 36" tank to use as a sump. What are the demensions on the other 30G? No longer needed. Thanks
  14. Okay everyone, I know this has been asked and answered a million times. I posted this question on RC a while back and had too many opinions on what to do. Here is what I am looking to complete. I have a 135G Oceanic RR, dual overflow tank. I want to remove the standard drain hoses and replace them with PVC. My question is this...Would it be better, for flow and noise, to run each drain directly to the sump, or have them meet in the middle with a T fitting and then form a single drain into the sump? I have 1 inch drains from the tank and have dry fit the dual drain solution. I was thinking that having the two drain lines meet in the middle and having a 2 inch pipe going to the sump may be better. Any thoughts or suggestions? I have about 7 feet of the flexable PVC hose available as well (dual drain option). Sorry for the spelling errors.
  15. Same results here with API test kit. I would be interested to know what everyone thinks about this topic. Topping off with very low PH water has to have some affect on the overall PH in the tank.
  16. I have a tupperware bowl of Red Sea for you. Let me know if have time tomorrow and we can meet up.
  17. Let me know what your day looks like on Monday. I will have a few cups of Red Sea with me.
  18. So let me ask, I have always used bleach to clean out my RO/DI. And from what I understand, bleach will dissapate when it's exposed to the air and a good rinsing. With that, bleach would be a safe method of cleaning an empty tank, right? Am I doing somethigh wrong here?
  19. Ah. I wont be leaving work till like 3:00 so maybe we can meet up another time. Say Monday? I work off 183/Mopac and could bring some salt to work on Monday. I see that you are fairly close.
  20. I will be there this afternoon to do a little shopping. What time are you available?
  21. Did anyone test the regular Red Sea? I switched to Red Sea from Oceanic and could run some test this weekend during my water change if anyone is interested. I dont have a reef tank but can still test calcium, KH, and phosphate is you would like. I could also donate some salt if someone with a more precise test kit would like to gather the results. I am using API for my kits. James

    1st Time

Hello everyone. I just wanted to interduce myself and describe my current setup. First off, my name is James. I had been out of the saltwater hobby for serveral years and decided to get back into it early this year. I currently have a 135G Oceanic RR, 29G sump, Octopus NW200 skimmer, and a bunch of cheap RIO's, 140 pounds of sand, and 70 pounds of live rock. More rock will be added as time goes on. The tank is currently a FOWLR, but may become reef down the road. Alos in the works is 14G Oceanic Bio-Cube. I got this from a friend with a nice 20 pound rock and the sand for free. I am currently building a stand and will complete the setup this weekend. This will most likely house a few low-light corals and a small clean-up crem, not any fish. I have been spending alot of time on Reef Central reading and sometimes responding to questions and answers. It amazing how many things have changed in the 8 years I was out of the hobby. I look forward to being helped by this site and helping others as well. Thanks for reading... James
