  1. Looks like 19 confirmed people, so far. This is going to be a pretty large meeting. It will be cool to meet everyone and put a face with the screen names.
  2. I don’t think they are available, yet. I had seen these in a Marine Depot catalog and decided to look into them. They look pretty interesting. http://riopump.net/new_products_folder/polario_desc.html I found a post on another reef site saying they would be $300 - $400 each. I don’t know if that includes the controllers or not. There is not a lot of information about them. James
  3. Already posted that I will be there. If we find a sitter for our 1 year old my wife will there as well. If not, it will just be me. Unless people dont mind a little girl running around.
  4. I will be there as well. I am trying to get my wife to come so she can see what it takes to hvae a great tank. Maybe she will let me spend a little more money!

    Refractometer

Pefrect! Thanks everyone. I will order one this weekend. I wonder why the LFS's use the hydrometers and not a refractometer? I guess when you test 30 water samples a day the hydrometer is a little easier. Anyway, thanks for everyones comments.

    Refractometer

Thanks. That is what I wanted to hear. If I can save a little money here and there I am all over it. We all know this hobby is not cheap! Anyone else have an opinion? James

    Refractometer

Hey everyone. I am looking to get a refractometer and wanted some advise. There is a wide range in price ($20 e-Bay special to over $100) and wanted to see what everyone else uses and if it's worth the money to go expensive. I am using a hydrometer now, and have confirmed with a few LFS's the readings. So my question is this...what advantage do I have buying an $100+ meter verses a cheaper one? Anyone have a good recomendation? I was looking at the cheaper one on Drs. Foster/Smith. James
  10. They are both great shots! I like the colors of GKarshens but also like the natural look of seahorsejl. Great pictures!
  11. Thanks! That is what I was looking for.
  12. Is there a page where we can see different styles of ARC shirts? T-Shirt, Polo, Sweatshirt, etc.
  13. I have an Oceanic BioCube 14 that I am bring up now. So far, it seems like a good little tank. There is also an Oceanic 28G cube that has more bells and whistles. The 14G has two remote ballast powering 2 18 watt CF bulbs, fans to cool the lights, 2 moonlights, and pump. I dont think it came with a heater, but they are like $10. So far I like it, but have not had it running long enough to really see any issues.
  14. Yeah, I know. I was thinking I would just use what I had and not spend the extra money. I may break it down, clean everything, and add about 15 or 20 pounds of rock from a LFS. Thank everyone for your thoughts and suggestions.
  15. The rock is about 10 years old and was used in a FW aquarium. When I get the tank, and rock, I scrubbed it very well, soaked it in RO/DI water for 2 weeks, then boiled it in RO/DI water. That was 2 months ago. I thought that would have cleaned it up.
  16. Thanks again. I decided to go with sand. However, I may have made a BIG mistake with my rock. I added three medium sized pieces of that "Texas Holy Rock" that I had sitting around. Now, everything looks milky. Could the saltwater be breaking down the limestone?
  17. Thanks everyone. I only plan on stocking a few clowns, an anonme, and a few mushrooms. Nothing fancy, for now.
  18. I am going to bring my 14g nano online soon and want to know what everyone thinks about going BB. I know its a small tank and any filtration would help, but I kind of like the black bottom look. I will have live rock to aid in filtration, along with rubble in the back. Any thoughts/concerns are appreciated. James
  19. Yeah, I think you have to call them so they can meet you there. They do plan on opeing to the public but I dont know when.
  20. Here is the Marine Depot shipping policy..."We can pack up to 6 lamps per box. Since fluorescent bulbs require special handling and packaging, we will only ship fluorescent bulb and power compact bulb orders of four or more bulbs free of shipping cost. 46.5" and longer bulbs are shipped free only if 6 or more bulbs are ordered. All 46.5" lamps and longer ship as an oversize package (30 lbs package). 30-day warranty." Sounds like if you order 4, you get free shipping. I think I paid $20 to ship all 4 of my 60"bulbs.
  21. And where can you buy sheets of cell cast around town? I have only seen the stuff at Home Depot. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. I am wanting to build a custom sump as well.
  22. Ohhh. Thats good to know Gabriel. I got mine for about $27 each, plus shipping. Good to know that someone has them local for about the same price. One LFS store (not a ARC sponsor) could get them but they were like $50 per bulb. Although, Karen, your bulbs are 3 feet where mine are 5 feet and will be cheaper.
  23. I have not seen many VHO bulbs in the local stores. Most dont carry them because they are slowly going away. I think AquaTek had some 3 or 4 foot bulbs a while back but I dont know about now.
  24. I think those are the 50/50 bulbs that I have. They run at 12k and a mix of blue and white. They are called Actinic White. I will be switching to the AquaSun for bright bulbs and the super actinic for blue.
