Who are we to judge someone's morals and mistakes on here? If you don't want to go to the aquarium then don't go but why bash someone before you even see what they are trying to do. People change. I'm sure they learned their lesson and they learned it the hard way but like sifuentes said, the aquarium will open regardless. No point in burning bridges before you see the other side.

Time and time again they get in trouble for illegsl activities. They will change about as much as a politician won't lie.

So here are the details. No speculations being made. Just what has been reported so far. There may be more info out there so let me know and I can update the puzzle.

As this story continues to develop, i just keep thinking to myself, these guys always seem to be taking shortcuts and teetering between legal/illegal, ethical/unethical. In any profession, it's not that much harder to give the extra 10% to do something the right way (i.e., wait until you get proper permitting before construction, get your AZA accreditation, don't obtain animals illegally, get out in front of the multiple employee leaks that paint you in a terrible light). I've noticed that now that all of the "legal issues" that prevented the austin aquarium from posting here have subsided, we're now four pages deep with nary a peep from shauno. paging shauno. pitch the club, because this door is rapidly closing (for me at least).

Right now im in the middle of obtaining building permits for a historical section of the town here. I could easily go around it and do work myself then have it inspected but it just makes red tape get thrown harder at my door.

I agree 100% it does not take but a few moments of your day to do it the right way instead of trying to cut corners. Why let them cut corners and stand around and wait until we see animal death with our own eyes? Why not force them to do it the right way from the start.

Used wavebox, with older dial controller. Pump is in great shape! It's definitely possible to get and keep a wave with this controller, it just takes a little patience. I've tried it out and decided I'm happy with just the powerheads I have and I'd rather have the space back. Asking $200 obo. Open to trades or barter. Pick up in far south Austin, cash or PayPal.

From what I understand they haven't even acquired the proper permits to begin construction. I find this interesting as I keep getting advertisements in the mail offering an annual pass at 50% off for the NW Austin location. However, I never see construction or anyone at the NW location (I live close by) . Doesn't it seem odd to take money from people for a business that hasn't even opened it's doors OR began construction? All the death rates aside - this is an issue for all to consider.

I hope Austin Aquarium comes clean, gets the proper permits and opens those doors to some awesome aquatic life!! One can dream

Have you not seen the massive holding tanks that appeared on the back side? They are also doing interior work often and without permits.

FWIW in that article the brothers are offering refunds for anyone who already bought a season pass. Seems odd to me that someone would start back pedaling this soon unless they knew how bad it really was.

On the pier they are all 50+ but a fun fight. I buy crab right at the pier entrance e from the bait shop by the boats they are open 24 7 just call the number. I've had 90 lb test snap instantly a couple times.

Just got back from a 60 hour tuna slaughter. Was a blast. My buddy and I each caught our 3 limit yellows, each about 60lbs. Hundreds of pounds of black tuna, rainbow runners, grouper, tile fish, jacks, snapper, and more.

Jensens on Parmer is going to be about your best bet locally, and it's not a great bet. There is a second hand shop in Mustang Ridge that you could visit, but don't get excited on the way out there.

It's all about Roy's Bait and Tackle in Corpus. Seriously. They are all business. We can ride down there sometime and look for black drum and reds along Port A and Rockport. Was catching 65lb black drum in the spring.

I've been buying a ton of vintage Ocean City reels lately. I'm shooting for a 12/0 to 16/0 Senator or OC soon.

I've been spending a lot of time deep sea and bay fishing lately. We can drag the 20' Mako to Aransas if you want.

I see a lot of kids at LFS press their faces to the glass and enjoy watching nemo swim. If Dory is floating upside down or disease ridden, kids don't want to see that and parents don't want to sit and explain why it is that way. I haven't given walmart a dime in 5 years, and I'll continue to not do so there is a walmart 6 miles from my house, I drive past it every time i go to the store. Uneducated people will do what they do until they are educated. It is up to hobbyist like us to educate and share information to help stop animal neglect.

Here's the deal. Every stay at home mother or nanny or person trapped with a child under the age of 5 during the summer when it is over 100 outside is looking for a place to take that child that is air conditioned and their kid is welcome. There aren't that many places that fit the bill. The Austin Aquarium is going to be a haven for those mothers. They aren't going to care a bit what anyone says about the animal husbandry of the place. They are going to care that it is inside and safe for their kid.

This isn't some high end restaurant that is made or broken by word of mouth. If mom takes her screaming children there and they are happy for a few hours and leave her alone it is a goldmine for return customers.

To say every stay at home mother/father/nanny will ignore animal abuse and neglect is a long shot.
