  1. If they are small enough you can put them in the back of the toilet. Free water change after each flush. wink.png

i thought about that but i put stuff in the back of the toilet that turns the water blue and not stink lol

Each time I order from BRS I add o some rubble, when it arrives I toss it into the toilet and let it sit for a month before tossing it into my tank. Eventually I'll get the whole sump filled with rubble lol

  2. "Fish used for cycling is stupid in this day and age. To kill those fish and then say "remove them from consideration because they died to old outdated techniques is a bad outlook."

I'm not afraid to say I cycle all of my tanks with fish. Guess that makes me a stupid, bad person. It's their choice to do what they want to do. Nobody has a right to judge someone else based on their technique that they decide to use. I had to cull off about 25 Convict Cichlids. At the high school. With none of the reccomended ways to do it. I wont say how I did it.. But it wasn't pretty or fun. I must also be a bad person for that. I tried selling them. Heck, I tried giving them away. Had no choice.

People should have the right to do what they believe is proper, without being judged for it.

Just no reason to put a fish through unneeded stress if other known techniques exist.

  3. Why are we making a big deal about a power outrage killing fish? Don't we all know this happens? It's part of the hobby, if you have that many tanks and loose power it's obvious fish will die...

Obviously. Preventable with back up power if you value your livestock.
Usually cheaper to replace fish than buy a generator that can power an entire aquarium

One fish, yes. But we are talking a Genny vs replacing multiple lives.

  4. My tanks will survive power outages because I invested money properly into bubble boxes and generators. A business as large as there should easily have an auto flip generator to prevent these things.

Fish used for cycling is stupid in this day and age. To kill those fish and then say "remove them from consideration because they died to old outdated techniques is a bad outlook.

It is not a witch hunt. Its pointing out multiple errors on their end that they refuse to address and try to hide.

  5. One interesting thing I found in one of the many articles, likely posted by Brian, for an aquarium to get Texas certification for state restricted animals they have to be AZA accredited. Of course, that only applies if they try to get animals that are protected by the state.

Only applies if they try and get them legally and with permits/certificates lol

  6. There is a sign-able petition on change.org to have the AA become AZA certified. Surely everyone here can agree they need to be AZA certified. Weather your in the boycott camp or the AA camp, AZA can only HELP the animals.

A link to the petition to sign is here https://www.change.org/petitions/the-austin-aquarium-obtain-an-accreditation-from-the-association-of-zoos-and-aquariums

I encourage everyone to sign it, regardless of how you feel about the aquarium.

  7. It does not show they wanted to do it right, it shows they got caught.

You don't have to believe a former employee. You might be more inclined to believe the federal government who has removed the puffins for lack of permit, and successfully prosecuted one of the covino brothers for obtaining animals without a permit. they then went on to build the AA without proper permits. At best, it's a pattern of willful ignorance. At worse it's malicious.

  8. Let's keep this on topic and avoid personal attacks from both sides people. It's fine to have a difference of opinion but let's be nice to each other, we're all in the hobby because we enjoy the animals.

I agree no personal attacks, and trying to stay on topic.

While staying on topic, MOST people are in the hobby because they enjoy the animals.... others enjoy money more.

  9. Didn't they have sharks in open top tanks with workers present?

The big QT tanks I believe are out back. And if they were inside they'd be way in the back of the building where they were curing the live rock last time I was there. No space to have a shark tank while they're building

Odd I believe the city found the sharks inside and then they got relocated and the brothers wouldn't tell where they were.

    They did.

Once again they only corrected their actions when a whistle was blown.

They DID have sharks inside in open top tanks when workers were present, if they are outside now then thats where they are. BUT they were inside with workers doing construction.

  11. sharks love drywall dust bro

    did you apprentice under covino?

Most people that care for the animals will keep them away from that stuff.

Now all the allegations about animals health vs. Saving money makes no sense to me. In the long run if an animal dies.. It'll cost way more to replace it than the money saved by doing less frequent water changes. So I'm pretty doubtful that happened.

It WOULD cost more to replace certain animals, others not so much. Especially if you avoid getting the permits, which cost money, to lower your cost.
