  1. I see. But... I'd still like to see how they do in my softie tank.
  2. I'll take two!! Those are cool. From my reading, I'd gathered they were reef safe. Sponge or algae ok by me.
  3. I have a few varieties. Some cheap some not. Minutes from Cabela's...
  4. I've got some and will have more when you are ready. I'm in Buda too.
  5. AquaDome dedicated two tanks to zoanthid colonies! Photos with iphone...
  6. How about a racking cane from the homebrew supply shop....
  7. It'll have to be later in the week as I am going to be busy busy; just getting back to the house tonight. Anyone have tips on capturing the "blue effect"? Doesn't seem like it'll be easy. Seems there are lot of LED ideas being cranked out. Those motorcycle accent LEDs are too cool. I bet a quick email to JoeFlorida and you'd have an answer for all of us on the blue spectrum. Where's the pics Dena?!? lol Those Maxspects are going to be hot!
  8. Congrats. Did you get to cut the cord?
  9. I have a couple of T5s for actinics. The blue from the stunner is for effect, I am not sure you'd be getting any growth out of them. Worth a try though... I just clipped it on the frame of the canopy for now. I may install it under the frame of the MH. I'll get some pics out next week.
  10. Just installed the ecoxotic Stunner LED strip, 453nm blue, on my 72 bow. Ordered it from the doctor. I only ordered one strip to check it out. Lights up the whole tank and makes every coral glo' bigtime!

Do you have plenty of current on them? What lighting conditions do you have them under? If they have been closed for 3 months, they may not be coming out.
  12. I'll bring some Monti digitt for you to try out (along with the Favia). I've had success with montis as well.
  13. I'd lay money it won't grow coral. I have the same light powering my fuge; haven't been too thrilled.
  14. there are no shortcuts in this hobby... Simply try adding a cup of sand from someone's established tank. Lots of goodies in there to get things going.
  15. If you want to raise your calcium or alk use a product designed for such. I use SeaChem Reef Advantage Calcium and their Reef Builder; it will be cheaper to use a dry product like this to raise your concentrations to your targets and less risk in modifying other parameters. Once you reach your targets, THEN use your daily doses of B-Ionic (a rather expensive product IMO) to maintain your levels based upon a measured rate of decrease in those levels (or as a starting point follow the instructions). A couple of small pieces of SPS doesn't mean that your calcium is going to get sucked out. I would be cautious especially in such a small tank, measure frequently. You may find that your water changes are sufficient for keeping your levels where you want them.
  16. In my experience, Reeflux 10Ks produce quality color and growth.
  17. I keep my display at 78. At 79, the Ranco temp controller turns on a fan. It cools until the tank hits 78. I have a Coralife digital for ease in reading as my controller is mounted behind the tank.
  18. I'll be surprised if you don't regret not drilling it now. Maybe overflows are vastly improved from what they once were... Regardless, I wouldn't set up a reef tank with one. Just drill it.
  19. putting in the garden today.

  20. I don't have a tank for such. It's risky but what are you gonna do? I have a softy tank that would be inadequate for LPS and SPS. I trust that I get all of the zoa pests.
  21. For zoanthids, I use a RO water bath with a little Lugol's or SeaChem ReefDip. I'll let them soak for a few minutes and then inspect every polyp I can for nudi eggs or other hanger-onners. 2x readers, good lights, tweezers, and a magnifying glass. For others (LPS and SPS) I first use tank water w/Revive and then into tank water w/ReefDip. I see more critters (snails, starfish, pods, etc.) die quicker with the iodine-based dips than with the Revive. My hard coral treatment is likely not sufficient for killing redbugs or nudi eggs.
  22. Hey it's only 9 on the west coast.
  23. It is very attractive, had to have it. Hunter might know the name, if any. There was one left.
  24. Calvin came on down to Buda this evening for a visit to Cabela's and a quick stop to check out my 72. Just a nice day, nice people, nice tanks, nice shops... Thanks! Oh and he took home a little frag of these cats... ...one of my faves.
  25. Over to Aquatek to deliver some frags to medi and pick up some plugs and disks. Then on to the Dome... Picked up two new chalices: I love those little green eyes in contrast to the body. Looks like some green blotching in there too. ...and a little unknown blenny that crawls with his pectorals. Too cool.
