  1. If any of you have a pump laying around taking up space, please let me know. Thanks, -Travis
  2. Very Sweet Skilz! How does he plan to attach panels. And more importantly (at least to me), how do you keep the panels square? -t
  3. I have this burning urge to buy something... but The IRS successfully extinguished the burning hole that was in my pocket, otherwise I would love to. Shane, over at FishyBusiness, told me that there are a few folks trying to get a group buy together for a Reef Controller system. That looks like the next item on my agenda! -t
  4. I sure feel your pain. If I could hide another take in the garage, I would keep it hidden over here for a while.
  5. If any fall through, put me down for the left overs. -t
  6. OK, now to head to River City in hopes of hermit... and I shall name you all, "Hermit the Crab". A Photo of the Hermit Desert... complete with lot's of shells for them to exchange about.
  7. Will Nori suffice? Or should it be something a bit more robust? A clip with nori on it is pretty doable!
  8. Wow!! Do you have to scoop the water out with a spoon to use it? I did a few quick google searches and there seems to be a place where that type of water condition is valuable... Ever thought of becoming a "Hemp Farmer"? As far as a way to lower it, if you are on City Water, I might actually call the water company and see what they have to say about it? -t
  9. Muahhhahaha Now look what you've done! I'm off to buy hermits so that they may roam the desert! Mama, any chance you are around and about and have hermits 10 or so of them?
  10. There have to be only a few things in life that make time drag slower than watching a fallow tank. And for the record, testing the water parameters every time you come home doesn't make it go any faster. The system currently has only dead sand in it. (old live sand that's been dry and washed for 1yr) I'm still waiting for the live rock to get here! So there's not even a fire worm to watch yet. The water params are perfect and have been so for the last 4 days, which cause burning urges to at least drop in a few snails, hermits, and such. But I'm not sure what will happen when I add the live rock. As far as adding some sort of bacterial agent to start priming the system, what are the thoughts about using some of the old water from water changes from an existing tank? -t
  11. I don't know if you are like me, but when I'm gone for any length of time, I will continually have thoughts of the system overflowing, catching fire, running out of water, you name it, it would cross my mind until I get back. To help rid myself of this, I set up a small web-cam (cheap, no need for craziness here) just to see how things are going. And in the event something did go wrong, I had a friend with a key that could drop by. The reality of the fact is that it still has MANY hours of possible bad things going on, but no more so than while I"m at the office. It just let's me acclimate to the fear. Depending on your tech savvy, you can go an initially cheaper route and leave a computer on with a remote desktop connection available (if it's a modern laptop, chances are it's got a camera in it already). Of if you really want a small foot print and much lower power consumption you can take a look at a stand alone unit like some of these. After 2 months of desktop power consumption, you might equal the cost of having bought one of these. -t
  12. I don't know how well your setup would lend itself to this, but perhaps a plexiglass sheet inserted in the right place to separate the bullies from the wrasse for a bit while the trap has a chance to work? -t
  13. I've been wanting a six-line wrasse for a while... any reason you want him out of there? Dynamite might be a bit much... but I could just imagine a Texas Stadium Style event!
  14. Amazing how many thoughts can go through your mind in that one second isn't it!? Then that Fight or Flight instinct kicks in! 1 second delay... hmmm I wonder how close that actually was? The old "count every second after you see the strike and divide by 5 will tell you the distance from the strike" puts it about 1/5 of a mile away at least. (maybe more if there was greater resistance between you and the strike) The short of it is (wow, what a pun), hands out of the tank when the thunder comes a rolling around. -t
