  1. I run an algae scrubber in my sump. I'm basically growing GHA there so it starves out all the other nuisance algea. It's a very cheap fix idea since adding chemiclean doesn't guarantee it'll stay gone as long as you have a root problem that's causing it. Mine is usually due to overfeeding since i'm trying to make sure a specific fish eats enough.

  2. Big problem with the pico tank that I noticed over the weekend. My 14k LED bulb is acting up and randomly turning off and on so I had to unplug it since I didn't feel it was safe. I'll try messing with it some more and see what I can fix but my LED knowledge is next to none. If I can't get it back up then I'll place the acans in my 90 temporarily and keep the tank running in darkness until I can get a fix in place.

  3. I think with the Jawfish you need a lot more sand in the tank since you can't really dictate where he'll stay. If I'm correct you do have a mesh top since their known jumpers as well so your good there.

If you looking to please kids then your dori/nemo combo works wonders because they all know them.

Mandirins are my next choice since their so colorful.

Bartlett's Anthias are very colorful schooling fish and reasonably prices.

Linckia sea star and a sea apple from subsea are on my list to get too.

  4. Guess you should of prefaced your post with Brian don't read this first part but it's too late. I read it.

With BRS rock you should be ok. I can check with Bio but we had a container of hydraulic cement that we used that would make securing everything easy as well as your rock sand wall stable.

Shouldn't have any issues with buoyancy but when I flail around in my tank trying to place frags with a clown pecking my fingers things tended to get bumped.

I currently use egg crate on my rocks if your going with sand than that's the way to go. If you decided on going BB then pieces of lexan cut to where you couldn't see it would be more aesthetically pleasing.

  5. Never heard of using a magic eraser in the tank. I used a chisel and hammer to get the rock the exact way I wanted but looks like you got it right. I would cement it that way. There were way too many times when I put my hand in my tank to do something and accidently toppled a rock.

  6. Even with a larger ATO container I would recommend having someone swing by from either off the forum or a tank sitting service to make sure you don't have any problems while your away and fill your ATO.

There are plenty of articles on people leaving for vacation and coming back to issues such as George Monnat http://www.austinreefclub.com/topic/27081-flailing-along/

and we all invest too much money to come back and lose everything.

  7. The problem I usually encounter is the return pump is hot and the house is not cycling the air while I'm away.

Even though your house may be at a constant temperature with your lights, return pumps, and powerheads heating that small of a footprint to an extra 4 degrees it's not enough to change the house temp to kick on the a/c. I'd give everything a good cleaning regardless and look into throwing a cpu fan with your lights or upgrading to new ones since the cost is so minimal it's best to start there.

  8. Get a pet sitter. This could of all been avoided if someone checked on the tank daily that knew what to look for.

When Juiceman went away for just a weekend I watched his fish and in just that short amount of time he had a tang die that I was able to pull out before any ill effects on his system.

Have you checked your Mg levels? Have someone else swing by and check your levels with their test kits.

I would probably start with a 20% water change to even everything out and do it again in a week.

  9. Wonder why he stopped updating? Hope he completed it

Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk 2

He just started this build and actually updated it this morning.

Looks like he'll be checking out ARC shortly so let's pencil him in Mike.

  10. Bump, I've had some people interested.

New rimless 90's with black silicone cost 500+

This tank comes with a custom stand, that everyone who sees it raves about. smile.png

Actually a new rimless 90 w/ black silicone goes for $700 w/o stand and takes 4-6 weeks to get, I know. And your tonga rock structure alone is worth $100+

  11. So prior to turning the skimmer on you had everything running smoothly without bubbles and as soon as you turned on your skimmer you got bubbles and if you turn the skimmer off the bubbles disappear right?
