  1. I was thinking about getting one of these for the 90gallon tank I planning. Has anyone used one? Thoughts? Comments? One of the things that really drew me to this skimmer was it's small footprint (9"x7").

    TIA

  2. It looks like a Sea Hare. Good Algae eaters, but if you don't have any algae they starve and die. If they die they poison the tank, so keep it fed or sell it....basically.

  3. Enjoyed reading your thread. I wouldn't worry about dosing Alkalinity or Calcium until you have a bit of Coral in your tank. Your weekly water changes should help to maintain your parameters for a while. It's only when your coral is consuming more than the water change replenishes that you need to worry about dosing.

Btw - I would recommend a closed top container for your water top-off since RO/DI water can absorb things right out of the air. I have a small stand as well and use a small plastic 3gallon gas can I bought at Home Depot.

    Keep up the good work.

  4. I was able to acclimate one easily enough....just took ~5hours of drip acclimation. The fished lived for ~8months and then mysteriously died without warning. I think it cost me $1.50 from Petsmart.

  5. I have a 2.5" Lawnmower Blenny that I purchased from RCA that has been slowly wasting away (getting scary thin now). I have tried pellets/nori sheets/frozen prepared herbivore/omnivore foods/ with garlic/without you name it. And he just sits there and watches....no reaction at all. I have a small amount of algae naturally occurring in my tank and he ignores that as well. Anyone have any tips on how I can get him to eat?

    TIA

  6. Sorry to hear you are having so many problems. Mine has worked like a champ. I had one problem when I updated to the 2.0 firmware (lost the power strips). I emailed the company to get a file I needed to resolve the problem and had it in a couple hours. Also didn't have any problems connecting up my net module (connects wirelessly to my home network). So I can monitor the system from my phone and turn on/off anything as well. The only piece you need to send in to DA before you can perform the upgrade is the SID - System Interface Device. Keep in mind that the 2.0 firmware is still in Beta....for like 6months now. I really want to try out one of the ALC - Advanced Light Controllers. BTW - If you have not been receiving the patch cables with your orders then I would complain. They have come with everything I have ordered so far. The base kit even came with a bunch of extra ones.

I would love to have my computer guy talk with you for few minutes about how to make it work. Getting this stuff to work for me is over my head, I can use computers but can't work on them. I have a part time employee that pretty sharp that works on the system everytime he comes in, he would be better at explaining our problem. You are right it was the SID that we sent in for the update. I did complain about the cables to DA, they agreed that they should be in the boxes with the powerstrips but didn't knoe for sure if they were are not. They didn't offer to send me any. This is my list of unresoleved issues

    1. Hooking up to the net to view from my iphone
    2. Fixing ORP probe
    3. Fixing PH probe which I think is software related b/c it happended shortly after update
    4. Install high water and low water sensors for the sump

I had a similar problem with my PH probe after the upgrade and DA replaced mine under warranty. I also have high/low water sensors for my ATO wired into my SL1, which works great. I don't have an ORP proble though I have the port for one, so I can't be of much help there. I think the most complicated part with the net module was getting access to the data from outside my home network. Took me a few hours to get all the different pieces in place, but has worked flawlessly since then. I'm happy to answer questions if I can.

  8. It wouldn't hurt to get a quote from a local cabniet maker, especially if you are wanting to match the stains with your furniture. Those guys are really slow this time of year and they can make it in their shop. Shouldn't be that much especially if you consider not having to pay for the shipping of the other stand.

Do you mean have them build the stand and canopy, or just finishing them? I had never considered having a cabinet maker build a stand but that might be a good way to go.

  9. Currently my plan is to purchase a Marineland 90g RR through RCA. I don't really want to go with the Marineland stand since it's just particle board, plus I would like something that could potentially match(in color) the furniture in my office. So that means unstained or custom. Also I want to make sure that I will have good amount if space and easy access to the sump in the stand. I don't mind spending a little extra on the stand if it means I get what I want.

  10. Anyone here have any experience with the stands that Glasscages make? I like the fact they come unstained so I could stain it to match the rest of the furniture, but I don't know what the construction quality is.

    TIA
