  1. Similar. I don't have anything in the fraggable size range, but if you want to clear some out I'll take a piece.
  2. It will settle. It's physics. The big stuff will get on top and all the small stuff on bottom.
  3. Having stuff too close to the glass is a newbie mistake I made. Now I have a thick bit of coraline algae obscuring part of my scape because of it. I don't have the energy to redo it, though.
  4. Who doesn't like a good sharing of flesh? And probably research grant worthy.
  5. I'm going to pass on this round. I've decided to hold off until I get me 'nem in my tank before adding more things.
  6. If they look good in your photo program, be sure to convert your pictures to the sRGB color space before uploading them to websites. That's what is used for web-viewing.
  7. +1 Gonzo. It's harmless. Most (all?) white ones are harmless. If you find reds or browns, that's a problem.
  8. I've settled on one on the back-left-side about 1/5 of the way from the top pointing slightly up and blasting from left-to-right at the other powerhead which is mounted on the back-right-back near the top and blasting toward the front. It creates has the effect of causing things to spin round clockwise with updrafts in the center. I mainly settled because I got tired trying to figure out what the best was--Lateral Lines. For reference, two K1's in a 20(l)x16(w)x20(d). It's a Solana. What about other other Solana users, how do you do yours?
  9. +1 for 250 MH (or equiv. ). There's a lot of folks on Nano Reef that run 250s for their SPS Solanas.
  10. Dagnabit. I was too slow on the draw.
  11. For a quick turnaround on CuC, visit Mama of Rockin' Reefs. Cheap cheap prices. As for using tap water, I was strongly advised by reefers to not start a tank with dechlorinated tapwater. The reason being is that the phosphates, metals, etc. leech into the rocks and for months and even years later, you may have problems with it. Also, with the amount of hair algae you have, your phosphates are likely being absorbed so fast that you literally cannot test for it--it always reads 0. Large and frequent water changes are your only option, combined with about a 3-days lights out. I would save the lights out until you get your CuC dropped in there. HTH.
  12. Also, piers may take him. You would have to PM him. He has this monstrosity of a white-spotted hermit crab that is a beaut but totally destructive. These critters get to 12" across and host in triton shells. RELEASE THE KRAKEN!
  13. That's a good thought. I do get falling water by the evening because of evap. I haven't completed my ATO system so I hand top-off daily. I'll try raising the water level to account for evap. so I don't get falling water.
  14. Does chaeto produce gas? I have stage 1 skimmer, stage 2 refugium (chaeto, live rubble, pods), stage 3 return pump.
  15. I'll try and monitor it. When you turn off your main pump and then some time later turn it back on, do you get a flood of micro-bubbles into the tank? In only lasts for a few seconds, but it is pretty dense bubble cloud.
  16. I'm curious about where the water is going to come from. I know they are more efficient in water reclamation than most, but if I can't water my yard anytime I want... Personally I'm not a fan of waterparks. It's about 5 minutes from me. NIMBY. It's going to kill me heading down toward 183A.
  17. Yeah, I already got the bugger moved. I knew the answer in the ol' gut.
  18. Howdy. One of my fuzzy green mushrooms (thanks Derek!) decided up and leave its cozy location. I couldn't find it until this morning... it's in the middle of my Goniporia. Should I fish this thing out or let nature take its course? Will it harm the Goniporia?
  19. For the skimmer yes. But I've observed bubbles during the main pump only, too. I think. Pretty sure. I recently cleaned the skimmer pump, but not the main pump. I did not clean the airhose tubing for the air intake to the skimmer.
  20. Hrm. Something else is going on. I'm not convinced it is the skimmer now. Everyone once in a while and large burst of micro-bubbles come pouring out of the return. Eh? What is up with that?
  21. It wasn't talking about the tank cost, specifically, it was referring to all said and done--stocked and all (and on a new setup). I didn't believe it, to be honest, but with my 34g Solana, I'm near $2K... well over $50/gallon. (Including lights, chemicals, accessories, rock, sand, salt, livestock, blah, blah, blah.) That's fantastic that it is a lot of re-use! That'll definitely mitigate it. I pointed out the potential cost because I didn't fully grok how expensive the hobby is until I saw all the bits and pieces adding up... rather quickly, mind you. So fast, in fact, that I stopped itemizing all my purchases. At this point, I would rather not know.
  22. In one of the books I have, it says expect between $35 to $50 per gallon for a saltwater tank. Right now, that's roughly $12,600 to $18,000. Maybe couple more grand for the sump? Fear and awe. It's mixed emotions. I'm complex like that.
