  1. No. It's against a wall. How do skimmers cause micro-bubbles? I see refs to that.
  2. Howdy. Over the last two (three?) weeks or so, I've been having a micro-bubble problem and I'm not sure how to troubleshoot it. You see bubbles in the water column as well as clinging to rock (esp. overhands), on macro-algae, etc. I have a Solana 34g, which if you aren't familiar with it, has three chamber in the back--overflow/skimmer (#1), filtration/refugium (#2), and return pump/ATO (#3). Here's what I have in each of the chambers: #1 - overflow -> filter pad -> skimmer #2 - from top to bottom, filter pad -> drip plate -> chaeto -> live rubble -> purigen -> chemi-pure -> drip plate -> filter pad (to catch chaeto bits from flowing into return area) #3 - return pump / ATO bottles I've removed everything, disassembled the pumps as much as they can be disassembled, cleaned stuff, and put it all back with no effect. How do I go about troubleshooting this?
  3. Howdy. I have these small, black spots slowly appearing on my live rock. It is mainly on the flat side of a rock close to the lights, but I'm starting to see some a little further down. If I'm not mistaken, during the actinics I see what appears to be peach-fuzz-like on the black spots. Here's a very crude picture taken top-down with a shaky iPhone through surface agitation. Thanks!
  4. Anything that sheds its hard outer protective layer millions of years ago has to be pretty badass.
  5. In one of the upgrades the view new content page lost the link to mark all as read. This is with an iPhone. Cheers.
  6. Wish what? That you had a harem of 8?
  7. Is there a way to see a history of status changes? With a few listed on the right, I miss a lot.
  8. Post your readings. There may be a misconception between what you think is normal and what is normal. Include temperature. You may have bad test kit(s). Do you put your hands in the tank? Do you wash them before putting them in the tank? I know, basic questions, but to troubleshoot this it needs to be broken down and assumptions thrown out.
  9. I avoided the 3D version... not a fan of the presentation in general. I thought it was a good movie. Not too heavy handed on gaia, evil corps, etc. but you get a lot of "humans are superior". It's one of the few I might actually pick up on blu-ray.
  10. My guess is yes. Either because of salinty, pH, or temperature. My orchid dottyback has been fighting for her life after I did a water change from 1.022 to 1.025+ in a short period of time. Or that's what I think the cause was.
  11. ZOMG! I can't believe you lumped me in the Carrie!
  12. Figures. Beautiful stuff but I'm out of town
  13. If you have an open top, would your tank receive enough oxygen even with the pumps turned off for a long period of time? (I saw reference to oxygen deprivation and breaker tripping in another thread.)
  14. Can you suggest one or point me to one so I can see. Usually I'm trying to aerate around 5-6g. I use my MJ-1200 for a 30g trashcan.
  15. I have a tank I need to aerate where I don't want a ton of (hardly any) circulation. All I have are MJ-1200 lying around. Suggestions?
  16. I don't know much about airstones to be honest--hence "system". I was pretty it was multiple parts, but didn't know if the pump was submersible or not. But yes, I think I need both since I have no other pumps other than MJ 1200 ones.
  17. Mainly for aeration of temp. tank.
  18. Contact user Mama (Laura) of Rockin' Reefs. Highly recommended and great prices.
  19. Mark: I'm heading out in about 5 minutes. I'll be picking up mine, Carrie's, and Mama's orders.
  20. Take out all the rocks and scrub them with a toothbrush (/me pokes Carrie).
  21. That is very cool. When I saw one at AquaDome I had to have one until I researched and found that most tend to starve (much like sand sifting stars) because we don't have enough gunk in our sand beds for long term survival.
