  1. Andrew- HOOK ME UP DUDE THAT SYSTEM ROCKS!
  2. Cool thanks guys. Now that I think about it I believe that's the one I had on the 125.
  3. I guess no one on this site uses heaters
  4. Looks like I will need to run a heater and was wondering which one works best. Total tank volume is 240 gallons.
  5. Here is a picture of a red flatworm (non acro eating kind) And here is a picture of the clear kind that eat acros. Hope this helps with any concern. Good luck!
  6. Red acro eating flatworms? Has it been confirmed that the red ones eat acros? I had a tank infestation a few years back and had thousands of the little clear ones and one big red one but didn't know the red ones ate acros! Good to know!
  7. Where are all the corals? You call that a reef?? Nice pics though.
  8. Got any up for grabs? Thanks to Ace aka Hobogato my stand is no longer naked. With three solid panels that are held in place using brackets and magnets taking the front and sides off is as easy as 1 2 3. ^that was cheesy.
  9. Thanks Jason! Would you do anything different? Mike doesn't like it and wants to come over and "fix" it. Maybe he'll do some sort of live rock endoscopy or some other medical procedure to make it look better! Thanks again for you help, there is no way we could have done it without you. I'll return the favor with frags once I get some myself. Hope all is well.
  10. Gabe- Looking at the pictures only I would agree that the scape needs to be higher. However when you look at the tank in person it doesn't give you that feel. It's taken me some getting used to the idea of having a tank with these dimensions. And I hope you're right about the corals growing up to fill in the gaps! Andrew you like the texture of the sand or rock? I really like the substrate bed because I will never have to worry about having too much flow to blow it around.
  11. Thanks Gabe, I may take you up on that offer. Here is the new design. Thinner on the left, open in the center and denser on the right. Be honest folks, either you like it or you don't. I need feedback please
  12. I guess no one likes the rock work? I re-scaped it last night and added sand. When I get home I'll post pics and hopefully I'll get better reviews.
  13. I got around to adding rock last night and I must say scaping this tank was a lot more challenging than I thought it would be. I had a picture in my mind of two tall columns but it just didn't come out right. Here is what I've done so far. Noting special but lots of room to place corals and hopefully watch em grow up toward the light. Here it is.
  14. Thanks John! The gray pvc is clean and more professional looking in my opinion. The only down side it's hard to come by at Lowes or Home Depot. Tonight I finished filling the tank and double checking for leaks then I added salt and turn the closed loop on. I'm thinking this will not be enough flow so I'm looking into a bigger pump. Any suggestions? Here are a few pics.
  15. So you think the Bubble King will be too much for the mushrooms? Maybe I'll just stick with green star polyps.
  16. John, I'm in the process of filling the tank after repairing a few leaks. I'm going to try my hand as some simple softies, and maybe a few engineer gobies. I suck at sps so I'll stay away this time.
  17. Well Gabe the excitement was short lived and followed by frustration. I discovered two leaks in my plumbing job, one at the fitting between my 1.5 threaded slip adapter and the top of the ball valve. The other leak is coming from the short 1 inch pipe coming out of the far right ball valve. Not sure what happened but I can't move forward until I get more parts from Corr-Tech. What's the most frustrating part is I've plumbed three other times using the good ole sch. 40 from Home Depot and never had a glitch.
  18. I spent much of the day finishing up the plumbing and replacing the seals, bearing in my closed loop pump and it's safe to say I am worn out! Mojo suggested that I re-route the far left closed loop so that it goes out the back of the stand. I am glad I took his advice as there is more room underneath and things do not look as cluttered. I also picked up my Spectrapure five stage RO/DI unit and started making water. Since I do not have my mixing vat yet I have the product water going directly in the tank. Once I have enough water to run my return pump and closed loop I will be adding salt and letting my CL mix it up. The rock selected was Vanuatu and I had a chance to check it out last week down at Kingfish where it is curing. I hope to have my sand by end of next week. That will allow me to scape the rock and get ready for fish. Below are progress pics from today, it's getting close to becoming a reef!
  19. Lee the chiller will set in the in the breakfast room a few feet from the tank. I plan on having Ace design something to cover it up as well. On a side note I'm not happy with the plumbing and plan on changing a few things up. I'll update once I'm done.
  20. Well Lee you made my mind up for me. I've decided to go with 3/4 gray spa-flex so all the plumbing matches. The connections are 3/4" and so is the chiller return on the tank. You are correct the OM is powered. Good point about the OM and the pump, I wouldn't have thought of that. As of now I haven't put a "T" on the closed loop, as soon as I make it by Corr Tech I'll get what I need and complete that project. As far as the water changes go I like to empty the sump and shop vac it during each water change. This helps detritus and other smelly stuff from building up in the sump. I hope to have the return pump plumbed in by Tuesday and I'll follow it up with pics.
  21. Well I finished plumbing the closed loop this afternoon. I wish I could have stuck with perpendicular and horizontal lines but the angles of the closed loop on the left side of the tank did not allow for that. I guess it doesn't look too bad so I'm hoping you guys will tell me. All I have left on the plumbing is to hard plumb the return pump and figure out how to plumb the chiller........Should I hard plumb or use soft tubing??? What are your thoughts? The chiller will be about 4' away from the tank.
  22. Sorry- "Cap" is short for montipora capricornus.
