mhart032
So, im starting a new build after being out of reefing for almost 10 years, so far i have bought the tank which i think is a good size for my reintroduction to this hobby, I have pulled the trigger on a 20gal Waterbox kit with AI Prime HD leds, Tunze 9004 skimmer, 2 Vortech Mp10s i still had from my 40g build several years ago, I still had 20lbs of Marco rock still new and in the box from before as well as ordering another 20lbs to give me some other pieces so mix for nice aquascaping. I have also picked up a ecotech radion XR15 g4 pro just incase i dont like the AI Prime HD . This build will be a mix reef tank focusing on higher end to rarer species of LPS and SPS, a pair of Onyx clowns once established enough and progressed enough to add these. i wont be using any quick start additives to start this tank ill be going through the natural cycle, so its going to take some time to get it established. Equipment List 20G Waterbox Kit AI Prime HD / Ecotech Radion XR 15W G4 Pro w/ defuser (not sure what light im going to use yet. probably the Radion) 2X Ecotech Vortech Mp10s Tunze 1074 Silence return 650 gph (didn't like the stock ump didn't like the way it fit) Tunze Nano ATO Tunze 9001 nano skimmer Apex Controller ( New Version) 2X peristaltic pumps for dosing Eshopps 2 chamber dosing container (to dose 2 part B-ionic ) Eshopps 2 Gal ATO reservoir NEEDS Tank stand ( i cant find a tank stand for this footprint, they have a standard stand but its just a box, and its not very attractive)
Sierra Bravo
I've been seriously considering an office nano. Tagging along for inspiration!
FarmerTy
I'm sure this build will be amazing considering your prior experience.

Im hoping so, i have a lot more patients in my old age lol, so as long as i can stay the course it should be pretty decent. I really like the Waterbox products, the build quality amd attention to detail is pretty nice. Im going to have to kick the stock media to tue curb to fit the skimmer, probes and top off equipment. Im thinking of swapping it out for some marine pure in the botton of the center chamber vs the bio balls.
mhart032
Im on hold for the time being untill i can either build or have a stand made, but ill start curing the LR this weekend. Im thinking of having a removable skin made to wrap around a 2×4 stand so i can work on the equipment in the bottom and access the controllers. But im just not sure what to really do about that yet. Look into using 80/20 or T-Slot extruded aluminum. It's very easy to cut and work with. May be a bit more expense than 2x4, but the advantage is you can make it any height or width you want, it's extremely strong and durable, and probably the greatest advantage of all in a small stand: The smaller size of the extrusions allow for more usable space within the cabinet. Best place to buy it is their outlet shopfront on eBay: http://stores.ebay.com/8020-Inc-Garage-Sale You could affix magnets to the frame and on finished skins and make all four sides removable if you wish, bypassing doors altogether. Sierra Bravo
Cool! Word of advice - don't go crazy on the width of the 80/20. For the weight of a 20 gallon the 10 series 1" x 1" stock is plenty strong enough if you brace the corners properly.

Sierra Bravo
Careful - all the series numbers need to match! 40 series is for 4" x 4" I think. Let me look real quick.

Oh ok, that makes sense, Ive been playing around with the rock and think i found a couple that i like so far. what do you think?
Sierra Bravo
Yeah, the 40 series inside corner is no bueno. Won't work. Using the side window, click on "Joining Plates", then click on "10 Series" or "10 Series Black". That will limit you to that particular size. Likewise the 20 series is metric. As for the 'scape, I like the last two.
mhart032
Ok, i appreciate that, i think i have the right ones now. i agree on the last 2. I think I'm sold on this one its kind of a combination
mhart032
Soo.. im already have regrets about not going bigger, well not really bigger, more sumpless i know im already going to hate not having a clean top of the tank void from probs, top off equipment skimmers and what not, so im at a fork in the road, i have the rock and sand in a tub starting to cycle right now while i make my way through this conundrum. mhart032
This weekend i built a temp stand to figure out what how all the pieces of the 10/20 stand will work. there were a couple of corner brackets that were back ordered and i didn't want to wait that long to get the tank up and running. i swap it out later once i get everything. I can say this thing is dead silent right now with just return pump running, getting great flow from the Tunze return pump might only have to use one MP10 on this tank which will be nice to have the backup if i need it. the rock scape i built didnt fit the tank so i had to break a couple pieces off and re glue to fit everything. anyway here is a pick of the progress so far, to note i am using the AI right now as i dont have the mounting bracket for the Ecotech yet.
mhart032
Oops, i found out just how bright the Radions are, i was setting up the XR15 g4 Pro and burnt my desk =/
FarmerTy
Oops, i found out just how bright the Radions are, i was setting up the XR15 g4 Pro and burnt my desk =/ Yikes! I'm guessing the fixture was laying right on the desk? Curious how long did it take before burning?Might as well do that all over the desk for consistency purposes. Then you can call it a designer wood desk.

Caravanshaka
Looks like I might be a bit late for the advice, but if you need anything 80/20 and don't want to pay the high prices, check out www.tnutz.com. Feel free to contact them for things that aren't on their website. I saved about $500 on the stand for my 165 by using them instead of 80/20 direct. mhart032
Actually, i had not ordered anything yet because i couldn't find the correct brackets to put the corners together, they are backordered. So this is good news, i like saving money!
Caravanshaka
Awesome, glad I could help! I built mine using 15 series, mostly 1530 and anchor bolts. They can cut the extrusion to specific sizes and machine them to accept anchor bolts for you as well.
