Brooks
It depends... what kind of lights are you using? Size of tank (dimensions/gallons)? Livestock?

Timfish
I put LED strip lights that are sealed a couple inchs above the water, LED fixtures with fans and fluorescent fixtures 5 or 6 inchs, MH at least 8 inches
jestep
It's shallow so I would get it a good 12 - 18" off the water, but you should do it based on tank coverage. Are you hanging it or does it have a clamp or something else?
bigmike015
i have a hood that i made. Its about 12 inches off the water and tank seems kinda dingy, I was thinking about getting abother MH and put them side by side. Would it matter if i have 1-175 watt and 1-150 watt? as long as both have same bulb?
