  6. the light i bought has a double ended halogen bulb like the MH does its a little different then the 250 i have but not much maybe a little smaller.. then like he did i bought a 70watt MH ballast and the Ushio 70watt 14k bulb..
  7. no get eletronic start. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=200314967311&Category=26261&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26its%3DI%26otn%3D2 like this guy
  8. its a double ended halogen fixture. i ordered the Ushio 70w 14k double ended MH from marinedepot.com $49.99 i got the ballast (advanced 70watt) from ebay $39.00.. i did some checking around and the cheapest i found a 70watt pendent or retro was 149.99 so it saves 50 bucks or so to build this light...
  9. Hes useing an advanced ballast... went to Freight harbor tools and pick up a light $12.99. im gonna run it over my 3-5g sps nano when i get it i wanna try and use it as a very in expencive frag tank. so im going to work on this light. gotta order the ushio bulb.. i already have the mixing bowl only im going to try and use a smaller one. and try to use the case from a picilo clamp light.. dunno it it will work but im gonna give it a shot.. great find! BTW
  10. Hes saying that he pulled the bulb out and then replaced the DE halogen with a 70w MH bulb that is an exact fit to the 500w direct wired DE halogen socket..
  11. haha your an Saltwater Aquarist now!!
  12. ok.. i think ill just wait and look at some others tanks with t-5s and see what they use i dont want to yellow and i dont want what i already have witch is to blue.. ill make a desction before then.. i thought it was crunch time had the order was going out..

  18. You could build some.. its very simple and takes very little time. not to mention super cheap.. all supplies are available at radio shack.. depending on tank size for a 30g tank id use 2 and more from their.. Parts list (for my tank 90g) 6 10mm ultra bright leds (i like the blue) but you can use any color 6 47-ohm resistors 1 small spool of black wire 16 gauge 1 small spool of red or white wire 16 gauge 1 solder iron (small tip works better) 1 roll solder 1 roll of black electric tape (or heat shrink if you want to go all out) 1 3.7 volt power supply (old cell phone chargers work good or electric razors and so on) take the mesurement of your tank and space out the 10mm leds then solder the resistors to the long side of the LED this will be the positive. then solder red/white wire to that then you will solder all the positive side wires in a series meaning 1 positive side led/resistor combo to the next positive side and so on. then you will do the same with the negitive side only not useing resistors this time. tape everything up nicely (or use heat shrink) then you will need to wire the 1st resistor in the series to the positive wire on the power supply (you can make this longer if you wish but i dont recomend over 3 foot). Then you will need to do the same with the firt negitive side of the LED to the negitive on the power supply.. Mount to tank or hood or lights and you will have super bright moon lights in your tank for the cost of around $10 - $15 bucks... you will find your own tricks to make it better this is just a rough guide
