  1. Yeah, saw it but I'm not carrying that beast! I found fiberglass/shock cord replacement tent poles at Academy for $5. I bought two and connected them. They aren't rigid enough to hold anything super heavy, but will be more than enough for the shark and clownfish windsocks we're attaching to the top. So if you see a bald guy holding a pole with a shark and clownfish, come up and say hi, and everyone enjoy the weather and the show!
  2. Heading to ACL this weekend and I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find a telescoping windsock pole to mark our location. Any suggestions?
  3. So who wants to pick up the reins and actually build the tank? Can anyone contact her and see if maybe she has a new boyfriend?
  4. I have the same issue with Carib Sea Fiji Pink. It's pretty sand but very fine. My sleeper goby constantly stirs up the sand causing the water to have a lot of particles suspended in it. Over time it will improve some but will probably never be as clear as you're expecting. If your live rock already has aiptasia you may want to deal with that before adding too much more. Peppermint shrimp will control it, but in my experience will not eradicate it.
  5. As for turning the pumps off and the pvc, I've found once the anemone attaches -- in this case once he gets his foot attached to the glass or underlying rock -- he'll most likely stay there. The pvc can then be pulled out and pumps turned back on. If the nem isn't happy it will move again, but once it attaches I'd let it settle for a day or two without making changes. Feed it, normal light cycle, etc, and let it acclimate that way. Ultimately it will do what it wants, all you can do is try to baby it into being happy.
  6. I'm an anemone guy. I can grow and have success with just about all of them: BTA, RBTA, rock anemones, tube anemones, you name it. I've bitten the bait and twice bought gorgeous LTAs from the Dome only to have them wander in my tank, not attach, and ultimately die. I've tried just about everything. The reason I say this is that LTAs can obviously be difficult. I finally settled on the idea that they don't like the other anemones in my tank. I've researched and read numerous articles that say that LTAs don't like tanks with BTAs in them (despite seeing the massive tank at the dome that has nems of all types in it). So, what other livestock do you have in the tank? Try the things listed above, see if you can find somewhere for it to settle. The closest I came to success was when I provided a 4" piece of pvc with live rock rubble and sand in the bottom. One of the LTAs stayed in it for almost 10 days, opening to feed, before it ballooned up and started drifting all over the tank. Best of luck, and let us know if you figure it out.
  7. Let's keep the discussion as kid-friendly as possible...
  8. Can any ipad users running safari confirm? I don't have the browser or device to troubleshoot. Looks like Sherita can confirm in this thread. Sorry, to be clear, I was asking if someone besides Sherita can confirm the issue.
  9. Let's all take a moment to thank our newest sponsor, Zoanthids.com! If you were able to attend C4 last year you had the opportunity to meet Brandon of Zoanthids.com. Not only did he make the trip to Austin for our first annual event, but he brought some incredible zoa and coarl frags. I ran into Brandon at MACNA this year and was able to catch up with him a bit and confirmed that they're looking forward to making the trip again in 2014. Until then, take a look at their site and then jump over to the Group Buy thread for a special offer he and I worked out. Let's all take a moment to say welcome Brandon and thank Zonathids.com for the support!

  11. There are two local sources I'd point you to for high quality lumber, Fine Lumber & Plywood is North and Brazos Forest Products down south. The both may be able to provide the precision cuts you need and then you would just have to pick up the material.
  12. Fixed. Not sure what the issue was but somehow you generated invalid html (it was adding a space after the first character of html tags and characters like "<"). Sorry about the issue, please let us know if it recurs. That said, I really don't recommend that anyone use IE ....
  13. We have many great sources and stores here in town, many of which are sponsors. Off the top of my head I'd recommend these as well as the others already mentioned: River City Aquatics (north) Austin Aquadome (south) Fish Gallery (central) Stinky's Fish Mart (east) Austin Aquafarms I'll work to get our map updated asap.

  15. Hi Lorie, welcome to the club! If you'd like to put some faces to the names and ask questions to your hearts content be sure to check our our monthly meetings. Lucky you, the next one is this Saturday at River City Aquatics (up north so near you). We'd love to see you there. Details here
  16. I did it as well this past spring break. Awesome!
  17. The current code for premium members is in the first post of this thread.
  18. Some insane corals. Anyone interested in a group buy?
  19. Looks like we didn't hit the minimum for attendance in October, so let's push this back to a time when more members can participate. Given high school football, band, UT football, etc., I'm thinking that maybe spring 2014 would be better. Opinions?
