  1. With mooric's second order, we're up over $150. Free shipping for everyone!!! Eleyan got us over $200.
  2. Heard back from John at ReefCleaners regarding an ARC discount code. Here's the important bit: "we have been letting those codes fall to the way side as we bring in items with lower margins, or include shipping in the price etc...We were getting killed with some of the discount codes we originally offered. THe group buys code had to go because the shipping is so high, (near $70 for the average group buy), and we were spending too much to do the group buys"
  3. Bill, I've got a note in to John at ReefCleaners asking about the discount, which is the first I've heard of it. He may have assumed that I already knew about any discount codes because ARC has done group buys in the past.
  4. Most, but not all. The package that ReefCleaners recommended for the SH tank is: 20 Dwarf Ceriths 9 Nassarius 9 Florida Ceriths 3 Large Nerite 3 Small to medium Nerite I'm also planning to add four peppermint shrimp to the SH tank. The rest of my ReefCleaners order is going toward boosting the CUC in my DT and to grow gracillaria in the DT's fuge for my tangs.
  5. Heard back from John at ReefCleaners last night - the buy is on! Check out the new thread for details. DO NOT POST YOUR PURCHASE INFO IN THIS THREAD! It'll get lost that way.
  6. 50 Dwarf Cerith 15 Florida Cerith 1 Fuzzy Chiton* 12 Nassarius Vibex 5 Nerite Snails (Large) 10 Nerite Snails (Small - Medium) 1 1 Penny Macro Algae 1 Gracilaria (Refugium and Food Grade ) Total: $41.39
  7. And we're off! I heard back from John at ReefCleaners last night, so time's a-wastin'... Stealing instructions liberally from Mitch's Dec thread: 1. Place an order at ReefCleaners.org by Tues, Jan 12, 11:59pm. Pay for the order seperately. 2. Choose the free "Group Buy" shipping option. 3. Leave a note in the comments field before submitting the order to let us know which you group you belong too, ie Austin Reef Club. 4. The order will be shipped on Thurs, Jan 14 via Express Mail, arriving Fri, Jan 15. 5. Come back and post your order details in this thread so we can track our group total and see how we're doing toward free shipping (kicks in at $150 for Express Mail) Special thanks to dapettit who volunteered to catch the order for us, thereby ensuring true overnight for those of us who want fuzzy chitons.
  8. I sent a followup email to ReefCleaners this morning. You'd think they'd want our business... B)
  9. Thanks, Dave. Now if they'll just respond to my group buy request...
  10. I'm up in Cedar Park, which apparently presents some unexpected problems in getting the stuff GUARANTEED next day per NonSequitur's earlier post.
  11. Sorry, Vash, but I have no idea what you're trying to say with that last post.
  12. I can ask. Would you PM me the info they'll need to do that?
  13. Hold that thought - I'll get all the details put together in one place for you once I hear back from ReefCleaners.
  14. Paperwork's in. I'll post here once I get things sorted out with ReefCleaners.
  15. OK, that's three or four of us who've expressed interest, so worst case we're splitting the shipping among ourselves. I'll get the paperwork in with ReefCleaners and launch a new thread.
  16. I'd like to turn this around REALLY quickly since I don't want to get the seahorses until the CUC is in. I'd like to close the order this Saturday, Jan 9.
  17. I've got to get a cleanup crew for my seahorse tank, and it's always more fun when you don't have to pay for shipping. Anybody else interested? If so, I'll launch a new thread and coordinate the order (unless someone more central than I am volunteers to take it over). Derry
  18. Ok, I know this is an odd request, but I thought it was worth a try. I have two onyx clowns that I bought at River City last March. They STILL have no idea what that rather large green BTA is for. I've tried taping pictures to the tank. I've tried shining a flashlight on the anemone at night. I've even pulled up videos of clownfish on the laptop and set it in front of the tank. Mine just won't go into the 'nem. So here's the deal - if you have two onyx clowns that are creating problems in your tank because of their hosting behavior (smothering a small anemone, messing with frogspawn, etc.), I'd like to trade you mine straight up.
  19. +1 for PM redline. It DID take about 3 wks to break in, but it's very easy to dial in as wet or dry as I'd like.
  20. A harlequin shrimp did wonders for mine. How big's your tank? There IS the risk of the harlequin eating its entire food supply. LiveAquaria also has a bumble bee shrimp that they claim will eat asterinas, and yet isn't an obligate sea star predator like the harlequin. I've also heard anecdotally that blue linkia stars will eat asterinas. Food for thought, Derry

    Perodicals?

Here are three free online periodicals: Reefkeeping Magazine is monthly (although they've recently switched to a blog style - don't know if that's permanent or not). RK runs the gamut from complete noobie articles to fairly advanced, and they've got eight years' worth of archives online as well. Advanced Aquarist leans toward the hard-core, scientific mindset, and they also have years of back issues archived online. Manhattan Reefs puts out a quarterly e-zine that I just found earlier this month. It's relatively new, and not all of the archive links work, but it's put together well and more middle-of-the-road in its approach. Coral Magazine is the main printed mag that lots of folks get. It's bimonthly, and it's pretty much the gold standard. There's a new one called Reef Life Magazinethat's also bimonthly and has decent buzz in the forums, but I've not seen it personally. Hope that helps! Derry
  22. I recently upgraded my sump, so it's time to find the old one a new home. It's an Advance Series acrylic sump and fuge combo: 30L x 14W x 16H ~2 ft of 1" drain tube bubble tower refugium compartment skimmer compartment drip compartment return compartment There are a few cracks in the acrylic up at the top 2" or so between the fuge and the return chamber, but they're well above normal operation depth, even accounting for overflow volume. I gave the sump a three-day vinegar bath in my garage with the water at the height of the bubble tower's baffle with no leaks. This sump sells new online for $300. I'm asking $100 for this one, and I'm willing to accept trades as part of the deal if necessary (fuzzy assistant in picture not included).
  23. Someone posted this on seahorse.org yesterday, and I thought it was worth passing along. Lots of options, including copepods, daphnia, rotifers, Isochrysis, Nannochloropsis, etc. Shipping rates look pretty reasonable, too. Carolina Biological Supply

    BTA spawning

I used to have an LTA that would spawn with some regularity. Looked like smoke coming from its orifice.
