  1. I bought a flame angel on impulse from LFS about a month ago. I don't use QT on fish, so putting them into tank can be a risk and since he had only been at the fish store for a few days this was a risk--definitely one I shouldn't have taken. Long story short, fish had some type of parasite and after he died, fish in my tank started to drop like flies. Well, looks like I'm just about out of fish (have a chromis, damsel, six line wrassed and a Foxface currently in a small tank dosing with copper, but I don't think he'll make it). I lost a clown, trigger, royal gram, and a few others. Questions is can I run a UV sterilizer (which I don't currently own) to kill of any remaining parasite that may be in the tank? I'm looking into purchasing one either on this site or Craigslist. Just would like a little advice as to how effective they are. thnks for any pointers/info... Michael McDermott
  2. Hi, I'd be happy to take the fish and I've got a nice mushroom I can hold onto for you when you get your tank back up and running. Anyway we could meet somewhere central since I'm North. If not, I can probably make the trip down south--just let me know. Michael McDermott
  3. What's the coldest it gets in your house? All I ever read on these reef websites is how large temperature swings will affect your tank inhabitants. I guess maybe I have misinterpreted this in the past. I don't use a real accurate thermometer since its just the stick on type, but the temperature can vary a few to several degrees I guess. For example, right now since the weather is relatively nice my house in basically no heat or cool and just open windows during day when it gets warm, but the temp will vary during the day and I've seen the tank get up to around 80 or so in the day. Any feedback is appreciated. Michael McDermot
  4. Andrew, I would like the green zoas if they are not already spoken for. Michael McDermott
  5. Anyone-- Please recommend the best brand of heater for saltwater or reef aquariums. It seems like any brand I've used (e.g. hydor, ebo, stealth) I've had problems with. I do have a couple of heaters (I think they are titanium brand) that seem the most dependable. Any input is appreciated. Michael McDermott
  6. MickeyD's @ Lunch time....just let me know what time... Michael McDermott
  7. Hi, I'm in for 2 x Incredibles. thnks Michael McDermott
  8. Molly - Schnauzer Mix (Rescue) CoCo - Blue Heeler/Border Collie (Rescue)
  9. Hi, someone PM'd me on it. If that falls through what your offering would be fine. MJM
  10. Coralife is the brand I think..... has a single 50/50 96 watt bulb that has about 9 or 10 months of use. MJM
  11. I still have it....would like to trade for some zoas or will take $30 OBO.. I paid around $105 for it and it has the one 96W 50/50 bulb with about 9 or 10 months of use on it. Don't have the any feet for it though. Michael McDermott
  12. I would like: dark pink zoanthids (golfball sized) $5 dollar green palythoas $5 Could you shoot me your contact info... Michael McDermott
  13. Haven't heard anything back, I'm assuming you're no longer interested? MJM
  14. I've got lots of Xenia in my tank...really looking for some more Zoas. I'm willing to sell it for $30 if you'd like. I had offered it for $40 w/ no takers. Originally paid around $100 and used it for about 10 months. So it would probably need bulbs within a few months of use. Michael McDermott
  15. Hi, Tried to sell or trade this light a while back. It would be good for a backup if you have a 36" tank (46 Bowfront and I believe 58G are that length). Anyway, I can't use it anymore because both my tanks are 48". I would like some kind of frag or anything else you might want to offer. Always a good idea to have a backup in case your primary fixture fails. Let me know. Michael McDermott
  16. Okay Dave, You've got a deal. Let me know how you want to arrange pickup. Michael McDermott Cell 799-5541
  17. Hi, How about $60 and I can throw in a 36" power compact light with about 10 months of use. Daylight and actinic included. Only 96 watts. I can use a 48" light for a backup for my system. How did you use a 48" light on a 29G tank? What are the measurements of that tank? Michael McDermott
  18. I got some nice Zoas from Dylan. That Hammer is a beautiful piece. MJM
  19. That is awesome. According to FAQ's these will last over 500 years and didn't move when hurricanes hit in 1998 and 2004.
  20. Hi, I can't see the pix--checking this at work and that site is blocked, but am definitely interested in some Zoas. If I was to buy more than one, say two of the $30 offerings would you give me a "bulk" discount...say $50, that would be great as I'm just getting my 90G tank going and some additional color would be nice. Michael McDermott
  21. Are you saying you should never feed flake food? MJM
  22. "Howdy all! Just a quick reminder that tomorrow, Thurs the 5th, is the last day to get your order in for the reefcleaners.org group buy. We have reached the free overnight shipping too, I'm expecting delivery on Tuesday the 10th. If you join us, please make a post on the thread in the group buy section." Hi Robb, I am in for order #2013, 20.24...Michael McDermott ...I would rather pickup @ 183/Lamar area, but whatever the final delivery area is will work for me. Michael McDermott
  23. Dustin, I hit you up @ Maast too. Do you ever get to Austin? I want the Chromis and cardinals. I guess I could come up to Killeen if you don't get down this way. Also, any of the live rock left? Michael McDermott
  24. Kevin, I'm going to be honest with you. I try to make sure I'm buying healthy fish from LFS. I buy all my fish from River City here in Austin or from folks on Craigslist and to this point haven't had an issue or a need to Quarantine. I realize most serious hobbiests probably don't do this, but I saw your last email ref quarantine tank and to me if you already have an established tank and you take the time to check out the fish and make sure he's healthy at the pet store prior to purchasing, no need to quarantine. That's just my two cents. I've had my tanks running for only a year now and previously didn't have much luck with saltwater fish, but that was prior to learning anything about Live Rock--which just wasn't part of the hobby say 10 years ago when I was in the military, traveling all over the world. Mike McDermott p.s. I sold you the 36" light....
  25. Sold the dual PC light; still have a single (96w) corallife light (36") with about 10 months of use on the bulb. I think I originally spent around $110 or so for the light. I will take $40 OBO or trade for fish or frags. Michael McDermott
