  1. hmm maybe I am doing it wrong but I just spray some windex on the glass and wipe clean with a newspaper .... been doing it like this once a week for over a year with no problems
  2. I have a 40 breeder that has been drilled on the bottom of one of the end panes for an external pump.
  3. just because a tank is not drilled dosent mean it cant be used for SW .... some of the best reeftanks I have ever seen are not drilled. You can easily use HOB overflow boxes and still make a wonderful tank without ever drilling anything.
  4. When I setup my next tank later this year or early next year I will definitely want to come take a look at this.
  5. there are three of them in my 24g that just destroyed my aiptasia problem but I dont know how I would every catch them.
  6. I will take it but I have no idea how to move everything
  7. can you run too much carbon? I have a two little fishies reactor full of carbon on my 24G. The changes in just the first day were amazing!
  8. I would say no to any SPS under stock lighting but same have had moderate success with it. I have a 24g aquapod but I am running it under a 250w MH pendant so light is not an issue As for dosing I just started dosing bionic two part yesterday. I dont plan to dose anything else other than this unless I absolutely have to.
  9. I'll take the phosban reactor
  10. Welcome! I just started my first tank in January and so far I love it but I will say what everyone tells you is true. This is a very expensive hobby if you want to do it right. It also does take a lot of time and effort to do it right but isnt that the entire point of a hobby? I wouldnt be any fun if it was setup and done in 5 minutes and then you just look at it. Just to give you an idea of the costs involved. I bought a used 24 gallon aquapod with a stand from a member here late last year. Total I have invested about $800 in this system and there isnt even a single piece of coral in it yet. I also have purchased every single piece of this system used from people here on the boards.
  11. holy skimmer batman! Was their a reason for putting that large of a skimmer on that tank or was it just one of those lets see what it does kind of deals?
  12. Ok so I am planning on getting the double even though it is over kill for the 24g but I plan on getting a bigger tank in the future. I am planning on running GFO in one chamber and then running purigen in the bottom of the second with some chemi-pure on top of it. I dont know how well the chemi-pure will work in a reactor but I am going to give it a shot I think.
  13. that sucks obiji

  14. All the advice in this thread is dead on. The only thing that I can say is you can never go to slow in this hobby. I have had my tank up right at 6 months and I have just added my second fish and have not added a single frag yet. I started with cured rock from mike delgados tank and had a very small cycle but I have just spent the last 6 months making sure that I had everything stable and fixing the problems as they come up. It is much easier to fix an issue when you dont have any livestock in the tank. I fully expect it to take close to a year for my tank to be fully stocked but I hope by doing this that my losses will be very minimal.
  15. guess I just cant explain it but for some reason the water just looks like it shines or something when you are running the carbon or purigen. I guess it wont hurt anything but my wallet to go ahead and get the reactor. If nothing else it should help my system be a little more stable when I start adding corals next month.
  16. no I dont really have any problems other than the water being a little dull .... I am just looking to make my tank the best it can be. I want to make sure that I have everything in line before I start spending lots of money on coral. I have been paying lots of attention to other tanks recently and you can just tell the water is much clearer in some tanks thank others and mine just isnt as clear as some of the others that I have seen.
  17. Do you think that would be better than just using carbon?
  18. Also would it be possible to put several bags of chemi-pure in the reactor in place of the carbon? Would there be any added benefit from doing this?
  19. Nothing is really wrong ... I have a good skimmer (atleast as good as you can fit in the back chamber of an aquapod) and all of my parameters are in check. The water just doesn't look sparkly clear like some other systems that I have seen. It just kinda looks dull even with the 250w 14k MH on it. When I first set the system up I had a bag of carbon stuffed between the two chambers but after a few days it started impeding the flow of water into the second chamber and my ATO pumped a bunch of ro water in and almost caused a huge salinity drop. I am looking for a safer way to run carbon without the chance of impeding the flow and filling my tank with ro water.
  20. I am trying to make my 24g look a little better and I noticed that my water just doesn't look very polished. I threw a bag of carbon in the back chamber but there is no way to force the flow through it without causing some problems with my ATO unit so it isnt really doing much good just floating in the water. I am thinking of getting the bulk reef supply dual media reactor and running carbon and gfo in it. Has anyone used this setup and do you think it will benefit my 24g setup? Thanks
  21. Anyone know if you can sand this stand down and stain it a different color? I would like to have this tank but my wife will not let me have a black stand.
  22. The key to success in this hobby is patience! I would never suggest doing anything to speed up a cycle. Just add the rock, sand, and water and let it set for several weeks while you test the water. You will probably get a small cycle but you will still get a cycle even using fully cured LR. Just set it up and wait it out until you test out at 0.
  23. hmm guess I had too many dosXX and didnt realize what forum I was in. Mods please move this to the right forums thanks, josh
  24. So I had one very large weird looking anemone that I thought was aiptaisa but after looking at some pics I think it probably is a mojano. After looking at my tank it looks like I have 15-20 of these popping up everywhere. I already bought some aptaisa-x but I dont know if it will work on the mojano anemones as well.
