  1. I've been using the Ocean Master test kits by Instant Ocean for ph, nitrite, nitrates, ammonia and Alk. I use the API kit for the Calcium mostly, or to verify the results for some of the Ocean Master results, but they always match. My opinion, and (I'd like some feedback on this one), dont use the Red Sea Magnesium kit, its difficult, poorly documented and downright usesless. Matt at Austin Aqua farms uses the Elos Mag kit, says its great and easy.

What I dont like about the API kit is the vials. The lid for the vials goes on the outside, and when you shake it, then remove the cap, liquid always spills on the outside of the vial onto your fingers. I used a Hagen Calcium kit for the first time last night, and while I had 3 reagents to mix in, the vial had a lid that went on the inside of the vial, so you could shake it, and remove the lid slowly and the fluid would stay in the vial, not on the outside and on your fingers. My two cents.

  2. Impeller for Mag 9.5 or 9.5A or Pondmaster This is item 12745. It is a brand new unused impeller. I sold the pump and forgot I had this in the closet. It is not a fractionating impeller. It has a shaft, end caps and bushings, ready to install in your pump. Cheapest I saw it was 13.89 from a website, but that didnt include shipping.

Selling for 15 dollars. I work in RR and can meet you at Frys during lunch.

  3. I have an X-Lg Mag Float for sale, its used but the part that goes inside the tank is still very rough. This one has been used on glass and I would not recommend for an acrylic tank. This puppy goes for 89.99 at Dr Foster and goes up from there. Google Shopping says it is 101.98 with tax and shipping. I'll let it go for 70. I'll post here first to give the locals a shot, then to Maast and then Reefcentral. I work in RR and I can meet you at Frys tomorrow during lunch if you like. I see they also sell replacement pads for a few bucks, so it can be good as new with that, but honestly, this puppy is pretty abrasive. Mine looks like the one in the picture, except mine has rounded corners. Their pic must be old cause it says patent pending and mine says "patented". Really could use the cash please since I just bought a calc reactor and controller.

  4. Thank you! I still need to get the bits and I doubt it will be today. Do you work tomorrow or is Monday best? I'm not in a rush, worst case I have to buy another manifold anyways. Pm me where you will be and when would be a good time and I'll swing her buy.

  5. Anyone have a drill press? I have an intake manifold for my chevy 305 engine, and a bolt that holds the thermostat housing onto the manifold snapped off. I need someone to drill a nice clean hole in the bolt, so I can put a screw extractor into it. I will supply the bits as well. I'm trying to find left hand cobalt bits for the job. Already had a coworker try welding a nut to the bolt, but that didnt work for us. I can assist you to drill it, or if you prefer, i can drop the manifold off to you so that you can work on it as time permits. If you would like payment for your services, i can do that too, but would hope that you would not charge alot.

  6. lets take a step back and start with some basics. The simulator probably needs a specific video resolution to run at and may have a maximum, ex 1024x768. most systems that are capable of running Vista can run at high resolutions. what resolution does the program require, the manual should state this. Then, what resolution is system system running at? In Vista, use the help to see how to change the display settings to what the simulator needs

  7. yep, turned off the lights before putting him in. I didnt have any problems with the peppers this way, but I know my water params were better then than they are now. Right now, my ph is low, and I'm sure my magnesium is out of whack too.

  8. Well, I hate to give conflicting info, but I bought a cleaner shrimp yesterday, and he didnt like the temp method, he went into shock and was dead within the hour. perhaps the time was not long enough, but as soon as I put him in he freaked and twichted a few times. he seem to be ok after a couple of minutes, but then never moved much after that. A few minutes later, my Emerald crab was having dinner. 30 bucks down the crab hatch.

  9. great subject! I have been checking params on my tank, 90G oceanic. I bought a red sea magnesium kit, and I must be pretty dumb, cause in 3 tries I cant get the color to turn blue unless I start adding a second syring of chemical C to the test tube. My question is this, what Mag test kits do y'all use?

  10. Hiya Clint, that looks great! I'm curious, can you post some info about the bulbs you're using (brand etc) and placement from front to back? I'm about to convert from (4) 110w VHO's to (6) T5s and not sure about the bulb combo I'll use.
