  1. here is a thread about Southdown and alternatives.

    http://www.maast.org/index.php?name=PNphpB...light=southdown

Chances are that you will not be able to find Southdown or Yardright in Austin unless someone has a stash in thier garage. CaribSea special grade from a LFS will be the easiest to come by.

you will not need to purchase any live sand, though if you have the opportunity it is benefitial to grab a cup of sand from other's tanks, the more the better, to diversify your fauna. i can spare a cup.

  2. i dont believ the small amount of silica sand on your rocks will harm anything. best to knock most of it off if it is loose. use aragonite sand in your fuge, not extremely deep but up to 6 inches would be ok.

oh and thanks for the offer on the concrete. i should be ready to do mine fairly soon. i will need it in a month or two.

  3. i've got some really bright green ricordia yuma, metallic green hairy mushrooms, lots of violet and orange centered zoas with bright green skirts, teal centered zoas with purple skirts, metallic blue zoas with bright red skirts(very limited right now) and some RPE's. also some interesting palythoas that are a kind of orangy brown with a green metallic sheen that glow under actinics.

  4. You can isolate it with some success in areas of low to moderate flow. An island of rock in the sand, or a finger or peak surrounded by zoas or GSP can work. though you have to find something to surround the GSP happy3.gif If the xenia is in higher flow (sps tank) then it can drop polyps and spread around the tank. If this happens you may still be able to control it with some attentive gardening. I found that it just grows too fast for my reef tank so it, and the anthelia, are banished to the seahorse tank.
