  1. I'm interested in the small sump. How big is "small"? (So I can figure out where I'm going to put it.) 24L x 14.5h x 8w

And i'd need sand for the sump, but I'm not sure how much.

Will the skimmer fit in the sump?

no, but i have it plumbed externally right next to the sump

I might be interested in the 40g tank and stand, but I'll have to think that over.

I've seen some cool limestone different places, but I've always been concerned that it would mess with the pH. Have you ever had these in saltwater and, if so, how did they affect the water parameters?

no, it did not run the ph up, but it is very dense and probably doesnt do much for filtration however they work great as base rock to support the $$$ rock

  3. i run phosban reactor and skim 24/. nitrate is 0 and i dont seem to have any phosphate problems. i feel that i add enough nutrient for the animals and algae and then quickly remove it before it is a problem. i only feed heavily once a day. if i feed a second time it is very light. if algae starts to grow a little fast then i cut back on the food. also i have a lot of flow. i think this is key to overfeeding and nutrient control. everything stays suspended to get used or processed. flow on the 40g is over 2000 gph switched ( 1500 at any point in time ). flow in my 55g is around 3000 gph continuously. actually now that i think of it there are a number of things involved. lighting and nutrient keeps the algae growing. flow, high alk, and critters keep it in check. IMO of course.

  4. mine went thru that when i cut back on feedinng and the tank got really clean. i started feeding the tank heavily and the algae came back and he got fat again. i prefer to feed heavily now and the corals like it too. BTW i have never been able to get him to eat anything other than film algaes, he wont eat nori or hair algae or any prepared foods.

  5. thanks for the input joe. i wont ever shoot this camera with the same demand that studio work requires so not worried about the RAW buffering, though they say it was improved from 4 to 5 images. more importantly the RAW files are written in a lossless compressed form making the write much faster. I think i may have a couple of lenses that will still allow 3D matrix metering. i believe that i will have no on board metering for most of my lenses. but i like using the LunaPro. are you shooting the D100 without TTL metering? what card do you like? have you used a microdrive?

  6. anyone shooting nikon digitals out there? i have a d70 coming to me this week. i have been shooting an F3 and N90 for years, but this will be my first digital SLR. Any advise to get me going?

  7. hey there Rob, those numbers all look fine. i wouldnt worry about the Ph so much 7.8 is fine for fish only. it would probably be good to test it morning and evening a couple of times to determine the PH swing. Ph falls over night when the CO2 levels climb. if your low is 7.8 you are fine. if you are getting 7.8 in the evening before the lights go out then it may be falling to 7.6 or lower by morning. temp is a little high. you can lower that with fans.

    Welcome to ARC

    robert
