  1. well, i have to admit, i am drawn to the nano because of the "cleanliness" of the setup...i am interested in the selfcontained setup. I dont really want an open tank with the pendant or clipon. i just need regular pc lights (plus i dont want to deal with the heat issue of halides. unless I am just not thinking....if you have a pic of this setup i would love to see it. i have gone to river city...and I am TOTALLY into that nano they have at the front desk...thats my goal.
  2. i looked at the oceanic cube....but i didnt like the stand...it was too short hmmmm...but was probably right at couch level...by design? does anyone have anything like the nano...i really need some insight here.
  3. where do I look...what do i look for? thanks
  4. Well, I know you all have seen my posts about my tank overhaul..long story short, I may go a different route. The idea of the overhaul was because i needed a change in order to keep my interest peaked. I love SW and I love my reef, but I am thinking of downsizing my 55g to a 24g nano. Reasons? I need a change, something new...and my 55g is just too big for my little living room setup (we are getting new furniture, and nothing fits because of the tank) So, my thoughts are...buy and setup a 24g nano....transfer over some of my small fish and corals, then get rid of the exisitng 55g setup. what do you all think? good vs bad.....how to get rid of my other stuff...tanks, stand, (custom sump and fuge - thanks hammondedge....you know how nice that setup is) so I need input....anything can help
  5. anybody? I would love to get this guy out of my fuge so I can start growing some cheato again.
  6. i second the fuge....when Hammondedge built my fuge...i had all sorts of pods withing about a month...now, i just see more and more every month...different kinds too
  7. also....I have a 5" sand bed in my fuge...thats why i figured the 1.5" was the way to go so, does the rest of the procedures sound right? I am leaning toawrds the regular aragonite...but that tahitian moon sand still has some appeal to me...just that most say it looks bad after time...i just dont know for sure...gonna make my mind up very soon
  8. yup same one....it has gotten what I think is full grown...too big for my setup. and it LOVES cheato! i think that helped it grow. seriously, I need to get this to a bigger tank...so let me know if you are interested.....trade is less important than finding a better home for this guy.
  9. So I just want to run this by everyone and see what the deal is. I am going to be removing the CC in my 55g, and replacing it with sand. I will also be adding about 40 lbs of homeade LR. My setup is 55g with a 15gall sump and a 15gall refugium. The fuge has a 5" sand bed that has been in there for about 6 weeks. Tank has been running for about 8 months. So, my plan is to use about 5-6 rubbermaids and place rock in one, some fish in one, some fish in another, corals in one, snails crabs in one, shrimp and more corals in another. meanwhile.....siphon water from the tank to fill these rubbermaids, with some fresh saltwater. add a heater to the rubbermaids (may have to just cut the AC off to keep them all the same temp. add a powerhead to each rubbermaid. meanwhile.....scoop all the CC out of the main tank...give the glass a good scrub down, and add the rock, and pour the sand in...I am going to have abour 1.5 " of sand in there. then, add about 50% fresh saltwater, and the other 50% from the rubbermaids.....slowly start adding things back to the tank... does this sound right, can you see any flaws in my methods? any tips? thanks all...this is going to be a big change!
  10. well, I hate to do it, but I need to get rid of my longspine urchin. he is an awesome creature, but he is knocking things over. I have too many things that just "sit" on rocks, and he knocks them off. He is very cool and pretty big ...about 7" he is currently in my refugium, but he ate all my cheato!!! so now I need to move him. I would like to get him into a tank that he can roam around...my fuge is just too small for him. let me know if you want him....im a Zoa lover, so trades are best... thanks
  11. well, so far so good. I have been running the CSS 65 for about 3 weeks now. I have it on a very low/dry setting for fear of overflow, and so far...no issues. construction is worlds better than the Seaclone.
  12. ummmm.....please say that you had to blow the dust off of that CD
  13. carlos, your nano tank was what made me consider it. with more thought though..the main point of me redoing the tank is to achieve a more realistic "reef" look, so with that in mind....black sand may not be the way to go. just thought that it looked great in the front nano at river city thanks
  14. so, as you may know...I am very close to a tank "redo" where I am swapping may crushed coral for sand. my tank is black trimmed, my stand is black, and my living room is all black and white. i saw a tank with black sand for the first time in person.....I am kinda interested in the thought of black sand. does anyone have any pros and cons of going with black sand instead of the usual stuff?
  15. i just turned the water down until the leak went away...no scientific answer for that.
  16. dont know if its the same or not.....but mine leaked at the seals and I tried everything...silicone goop, you name it. turns out, I had the water pressure from the source too high....check that, that was an easy fix.
  17. had to look up Eagle Lake Texas....its between houston and san antonio. I probably only need 5 bags laughing7.gif
  18. also...is this the bag we are looking for? http://www.oldcastlecementmixes.com/category4.htm#16 here is the contact in texas.... Texas Oldcastle/Eagle-Cordell Concrete Products Highway 90A West Eagle Lake, TX 77434 (800) 955-5526
  19. i am reading that southdown was sold to old castle, and was then bought by yard right. anyone confirm this?
  20. I have a bout 3 more weeks to decide what to use. I have the water turning over twice a day, and the ph is starting to come down a hair....so, can anyone think of any reason not to use this limestone?
  21. UPDATE well, got the 125 in, and I dont have the clearance...either I didnt measure correctly, or the sit emeasurements are off by about 3/4 inch. so, I had to return it, and get the 65g. my tank is a 55g so I hope it will be adequate....anything has to be better than this seaclown more coming....as soon as the new one arrives
  22. well, my 55g has 65lbs of LR and I am just looking to supplement that with about 30lbs of homeade rock. everything I am reading states that I will get enough growth on the these rock in time that they will be carrying out similar functionality of actual LR. my needs are more for looks and the ability to create a better reef structure. i think it will be great, especially because of how well my rock shapes/caves/crevices turned out. i tested the ph last night btw, and it was a bit over 9. so, i drilled 2 tiny holes about the water lever in my rubbermaid, and set my water hose in the tub with a constant rate of water that will turn over my total water volume 2.5 times every 24hrs. i had to do this because daily water changes werent cutting it....my water was hitting a ph of 10 within 6 hours of a water change. my buddy (aquaculturist) told me that the water was not accepting anymore of the "leaching" ph after 6 hours. anyway...for those of you doing this....this may be the way to go. for those of you not doing this.....I will have about 45lbs of rock that wont fit in my tank...I am curing it all, and then yall can get the leftovers from me - already cured! p.s I have about 75lbs of portland cement left over....anyone need it?
  23. Well I wanted to follow the many recomendations for a Euroreef, but it just wasnt in the cards. My current skimmer is shot and hasnt worked for about a week now, and believe it or not, I had to replace my entire chimney this week....dont even ask! so, I went with what I could afford and got a Coralife SS 125. I have heard good reviews for the unit and cant wait to try it out. any coralife users have any input or suggestions for setup? thanks
  24. ya know, my daylights are about 7 months old...but there were "off brand" lights that came with the fixture. I already replaced the actinics because they werent "blue" enough....i didnt even think about the fact that the daylights were probably crap also. so I ordered the current bulbs 6700k/10000k thanks, hope that is my fix. ...also ordered a new skimmer too.....couldnt make the euroreef happen, but went with a coralife 125.....sounded like a decent choice for the money
  25. so.....rock has been in the water for 4-5 weeks now with an airpump running, doing water changes about every 3 days am i close? should i be doing anything else
