  1. Hey all. I finally decided to take the Nano down. I had it running for about 3 years and finally decided that I was wanting to go back to a large tank. The Nano is in great shape, comes with the nice stand with cabinet underneath. There are a few very light scratches from years of cleaning, but nothing that is an eye sore. I have no remaining corals, sand, or liverock. But I do have the original hood with PC lights (fans are kinda noisy) and I upgraded to a viper 70w halide clipon that is very nice. (halide light has only about 4-5 months use) I also have a rubbermaid full of various leftover stuff. nets, calcium, extra bulb, pumps, IV drip bags, etc. tank will need to be cleaned, there is some coraline buildup (i cleaned it, but not well enough to get all the coraline scraped off. make me an offer. thanks. *EDIT* sorry, I thought I had more Nano pics on this machine. I will upload much better shots after work. thanks
  2. so, i got a new test kit...and this one is showing that my ph was 7.7 do you think that could be what made my zoas all stretch? I just have a hard time believing that they arent getting enough light from a 70w halide in a nano....thx
  3. hey, im diggin up this old thread, but only to ask a question? I am wanting a more "natural" look to my nano, more algae/plant life...what recomendations would there be as to what cool alage could be added. also, what are the upside, and downsides to it? I dont usually see many tanks with any plants or macros in them....
  4. i have used the small zip ties with success, ii even built a small pvc cage that my LR rests on and it worked great...you cant even see it anymore. just used a few right angle pieces and some connectors and made the structure, then used zip ties on a few rocks..the rest would wedge well after a few key pieces were zip tied on.
  5. do they make one for a nano? after adding the halides and taking the top off....i did get more frequent evaporation, and i have to add top off water every other day
  6. well, they did that before when I had the stock PC lighting...and now with the upgraded 70w halide 14k (about 5-6 months ago) they havent changed..... and my buddies tank, with less lighting has the xenia from my tank looking awesome. he has less flow than me. what about temp? could that be a factor?
  7. So, let me elaborate.... Been reef keeping for around 2 yrs now...simple stuff only (softies, clowns, shrimp, etc) Anyway....I am wondering why my zoas, and mushrooms all have long stalks on them....no sitting right on the rocks like most pics I see. Also, my xenia are elongated, but I fragged a piece for a buddy, and in his tank, its short and has the poms opening and closing rapidly (like i would have liked) they all grow and reproduce fairly regularly...but just dont look like everyone elses. what could it be? 24g nano viper 70w halide clipon upgraded pump to maxi (cant remember model, but the same one all the nano guys upgrade to) koralion (or whatever that thing is called....i dont use it all the time, it seems to add too much flow) all thoughts are appreciated! thanks
  8. yeah, i took all the bio balls out, and replaced it with live rock rubble....i think it gets enough light back there for cheato. would there be any downside to the light not being on an alternate schedule? my old tank (larger) had the sump/ fuge with cheato, but was on a different light schedule. ...and no diesel truck here....I wish....just my dog "diesel" RIP i would take you up on that offer to try though...i figure it cant hurt!
  9. so I have a 20g flat just sitting in my house. was used for a snake a few years back, but is a water tight aquarium. would work great for a sump, fuge, frag tank, etc. all i want is frag trades for it...im at parmer/mcneil thanks
  10. speaking of cheato....has anyone tried putting it in the rear middle chamber of a nano? I removed the hood, and upgraded the lights to a clip on metal halide, so it does get let back there now while they are on. not hijacking man, just curios because I may go buy some myself.
  11. thanks..thats the kind of things I was questioning. what other ideas could I do? I am just asking because now is the time to try something new....unfortunatly. im not against going with reef friendly fish, I just feel weird about buying the same fish again.
  12. i think it would sound like a ph or temp swing also if all the other inhabitants werent doing just fine. Ph was tested along with all the other parameters - this was done every single day that a fish showed up dead - in addition to my regularly scheduled testing. temp is monitored everytime I look at the tank (digital temp gauge on the front glass) The tank had been running for quite some time now, and all rock and inhabitants were from a long time established 55g tank. I dont blame the LFS for the problem, but they did sell me a fish right out of their shipment....when they usually do their own small quarentine. Its like getting food poisening from taco bell...taco bell didnt make the meat or do something wrong....but you got it from them and would never eat there again.... anyway...here is my next question. After talking with other reefers and fish gurus...parasites have a short life span when they dont have a body(fish) to host. so I am going to let the tank run for 6 weeks as is (again coral, shrimp, crabs, snails...all still thriving) after 6 weeks I am going to start over. I was curious as to what people thought about going more aggressive...like a fuzzy dwarf and snowflake eel... I have a home for my shrimp (other tank) but what would happen to all my hermits and snails. I have heard the lionfish would eat them, and leave me with no cleaner crew. any experience on this?
  13. Well, havent posted in a while, but I downsized my 55g reef tank to a 24g Nano, and I have been very pleased with the results. My maintence time is less, and the cost is less....but I recently had an issue. I bought a yellow wtachman goby (pair) and here is what happened afterwards. next morning after adding yellow watchman - 1 of them dead 12 days later - flame angle dead (had him for 1yr) next day - royal gramma dead (had him for 1yr 2mths) next day - clown dead (first fish I ever got - pretty old) I tested the water....perfect parameters (btw did a 20% water change after the first watchman died) took my water to the fish store...they tested the water and said perfect (calcium was low=300 but no issue) anyway...only explanation they gave was that I got a fish based parasite from the last fish I added - which I got from them! no snails dead, no hermits dead, and both cleanershrimp and fireshrimp are doing fine.....corals look best they have looked and are multiplying anyone ever had this happen? I am upset and confused..... my next question is coming, but I wanted to get some responses first thanks
  14. i cant give you the lawnmower for $10 he is awesome! mushrooms and gsp are gone...may be a small frag of gsp around tho.
  15. i dont think you guys know how low I am willing to go for this. I already have my nano running and fully stocked....just make an offer. thanks
  16. Hey all As most may know, I downsized from my 55g to a 24g nano. This left me with a complete setup since I didnt use anything from the 55g except some LR and snails. I have sold most of the livestock back to the LFS, but here is what I have for sale 55g non drilled glass tank matching black stand 260w pc lights daylight and actinics custom made sump/fuge (very nice...made by hammondedge- approx 28gallons grow light on fuge, 5.5" deep sand bed in fuge coralife super skimmer 65 4-5 pumps (rios, maxijets, etc) about 30lbs of LR lawnmover blenny HUGE royal gramma misc snails and hermits some green star polyps, and some xenia, and some mushrooms still growing in there long spine urchin mexican turbo snail bunch of cleaning supplies, nets, etc. here is a pic of what it looked like in full swing....its just the rocks, few corals, and cleaning crew not...not very attractive. and pic was taken before the sump.fuge, so the skimmer, heater, etc, all goes in the sump now again, this is everything you need for a fully functioanal 55g tank...the sump and fuge are really top quality, and the fuge enabled me to keep an amazing pod population going, and sustained a mandarin the whole time the tank was running. taking offers, I need to get this out of the living room....but its still up and running, so the rock is still live. parmer and mcneil
  17. i would love a handful if anyone has any to get rid of thanks
  18. hey I am downsizing from a 55g to a nano, so I now have no need for: 55g (non drilled) Glass stand (black) custom built (by hammondedge) sump and refugium...built into stand-paid $250 for the custom sump and fuge, so they are very nice. fuge full of live sand (deep sand bed in fuge) 48" 260w PC lighting with leds and 3 seperate timers coralife super skimmer 3-4 pumps heater its pretty much all you need....I even have lr and hermits in it right now. I am just looking to get it out of my living room, so I would work out a decent deal for both of us if you were interested....let me know
  19. i bought a coralife super skimmer 65 for my 55g. but I downsized to a nano about 4 weeks after i bought it....its still very new. I also have like 3-4 pumps left over. let me know if you are interested.
  20. yeah, me too.....i got a ton of nassarus snails. hopefully that will help with the sand.
  21. well, i did it, so I wanted to share pics. they are cell phone quality, so you cant see the small frags or colors very well...but you get the idea.
