  3. yes, thank you brain and christina for hosting this meeting! thank you andrew for being an awsome president and getting marc to come. marc, thank you for the great presentation! it was great "seeing" you all for the first time, although i did know a few faces from pictures. but that wasnt enough to get me to go say hi. next time ill actually "meet" you all. i was in a brown srtiped shirt and was with my tiny filipino wife and daughter. i wanted to say hi to everybody but im too much of a quivering ******! but i did meet mike. nice to meet you mike! maybe next time il grow some balls and say hi? great meeting, thank you!
  4. i can bring my wife and daughter right?
  5. you shouldnt have to regulate your drain with a valve. and if you do have to regulate your return pump with a valve, you should use a tee to redirect water from the return area in your sump, to the drain area in your sump. that way the dirty water just passes back through the skimmer section. or, you dont even have to tee it all the way over to your drain area. you could just add a tee and let the water drain right there into the return area. the basic "bleed off" setup would be from the return pump to a tee, after the tee would be a valve on each end. one valve would be to control the amount of water going back to the display, and the other valve would be to control how much water goes back into the sump. if you dont have the 2 valves, there is nothing stopping water from going full force through the end of the tee that doesnt have a valve. its just a basic bleed line, and it will keep your sump full, but the water will still go just as fast through the sump. if you want to have less flow going through your sump you should get a smaller pump rated for less gph than the one you have now... you could simply use a valve right after the return pump to restrict the flow, but thats bad for the pump. its not bad to have a huge turnover through your sump. alot of people say that the gph going through your sump should equal the gph of your skimmer pump, but its all the same water, so if your skimmer misses some water before it makes it back into the display, its ok. just as long as there are no pockets of detritus settling in any part of the display or sump, it should be fine
  6. i thought the pic was a joke at first, but i will respectfully keep my imagination to myself seeing as i will be at your house on the 10th, and i dont want to make a complete *** of myself i think a partial *** is ok though, i hope? nice flower. you say it smells putrid? like what, rotten meat?

  10. gosh dangit dude.... everbody is at the meeting right now, and i completely forgot about it! i was sitting there reading electrobs k.i.s.s. 40 breeder thread on RC, and in the thread he posts "its saturdday and im going to my first meeting today" then all of the sudden my heart jumped as i realized that it IS saturday, and its already 3:00pm.... son of a gun! i recently washed out of the austin fire departments hiring proccess, and for some reason i cant think straight anymore... i was really looking forward to going today.
  11. ther's a fee to join the club and attend meeting right?
  12. WOO HOO!!! congrats!! and great tank by the way
  13. do i have to be a male humpback boxfish??? couldnt i be a female inverted-back triangle-fish?
  14. hey, thanks for all the kind words sean, and thanks for the extras! it was really nice to meet you! enjoy the stand, it should be able to hold anything you want to put on it! and im pretty sure im going to keep the rolex. so the stand is gone, but the x-box is still up for grabs if anybody is interested?
  15. i have a custom built stand that i had made for a corian tank i built, but the corian tank broke. at that point i was going to custom build an acrylic tank, but ran into financial troubles when trying to buy the tools. long story short, i have no use for the stand anymore, and its a nice stand! brand new, never been used, made from standard framing 2x4's, birch ply, crema bordaux granite, and stained the color golden oak... all the outside of the stand is stained gloden oak, all the inside has been nicley caulked, and painted/sealed with white kilz. the top of the stand is crema bordeaux granite from africa. and the entire front and left side panels are removable for easy access. the stand cost roughly $200.-$250. for all the materials, and the granite alone is worth $250. all the dimentions of the stand are as follows: the stands outter dimentions- 30.5" width, 23" depth, 32" heighth. the interior dimentions- 26" width, 19" depth, 26.25" heighth. the granite top dimentions- 27.5" width, 21.25" depth. the front door opening dimentions- 22" width, 26.25" heighth. the left door opening dimentions- 12" width, 26.25 heighth. there is no back to the stand so if you have an external or hang on back overflow box, you can run plumbing right through the back without having to drill anything. if you plan on putting a reef ready tank, or tank with an internal overflow box on the stand, ide be happy to drill the holes needed in the granite so you can pass your pipes through the top. i will not charge you to drill the holes. although, if you didnt like the granite, it is removable. the largest tank foot print that this stand will accept is the same size as the granite, (27.5"x21.25") or smaller... here is the build thread of the stand on RC http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.p...hreadid=1282850 i also have an old x-box game system that i dont want. it comes with 1 controller, 1 video game, and all the cables to hook it up. there are a few things that i have in mind for a trade. these are some of the things i need... i need a nice pump. pan world, gen x, iwaki, or the like, with an output of at least 1000gph. an auto top off unit. a ph controller. an om squirt or similar current switching device. im a fan of controllers..... i dont know, just make me an offer! i wont take any live stock. no corals or fish! although i might take some live rock?
  16. greenish slimy huh... sounds like cyano bacteria. is it a disgusting mat that has bubbles in it, or is it green slimy leaves?
  17. i would agree with aaron. did that algea grow while the rocks were in your tank, or did the rocks come with the algae? the first type of algae that should be seen in a newly set up tank is diatoms. diatoms are not green though, they are brown. what you can do to help creat a nitrogen cycle in your new tank is throw a cocktail shrimp in. when the dead shrimp starts to decompose, its going to feed the bacteria needed to establish the tank. from there the bacteria will proliferate to a level that will sustain the biological filtration process. either way you look at it, its still going to take inbetween 2-4 weeks untill you will be able to safley add anything into your new tank. at that point you can add your clean up crew.
  18. i bought an SCWD because im poor but im workin' on an om squirt though
  19. geez! who knew the ocean contained almost every element on the periodic table? thats insane!
