  1. Happy Birthday to my wife - Katrina Kucewicz! 21 again and still stuck with this old man.

  2. Off to the Hill Country to pick up Kathleen from Camp CAMP. We're going to try to stop at the Nimitz Museum in Fredricksburg if there's time.

  3. Tolerance also means not stepping on a cockroach when you easily can.

Well,my cat is not tolerant then, cruel actually.

  4. I was wondering on the way home why so many people who can see the interdependency and interconnectedness of the environment can't see the same thing in economics. Any thoughts from the peanut gallery?

Very little K-12 education is spent on finance. Math sure but finance not so much. Call me a conspiracy nut but I think this is by design.

  5. I normally try to stay away from politics on this, but with the current meme of President Obama saying "you didn't build that" floating around, I started thinking about it and ironically that he is right, but oh so wrong. At the end of the day, I don't think anyone would say that they can do it all by themselves. We all depend on others – it’s called teamwork. I think the key is not that, but RISK.RISK in many ways is what seems to separates the political ideologies. Someone...

i dunno man. i feel like the reef club should be apolitical and not stress about this stuff. people have tanks to escape the grinds, and this is just gonna get people worked up.

  6. Today is the last day of Cub Scout Day Camp. It's been a fun week out at Old Settlers Park. Hot, but fun. It's a good feeling to teach some of these Cub Scouts how to shoot a BB Gun and to see their joy when they get a bullseye.

  7. First day of Cub Scout Day Camp. I've commited to all four days and will be helping to run a BB Gun Range. Why am I wishing I had some Seaport coffee right now. Yawn.

  9. About to take my Cub Scout Pack out to the Submarine Veteran's Memorial Day Ceremony. This should be great this year. We have more than 15 families attending.

    Hello folks!

I love the clam. It looks like one of mine that sadly went belly up recently.
  12. Stephen, I am going to have to bow out of this move. Unfortunately, I think I'm starting to get sick with something one of the kids brought home from school. I apologize for not being able to assist. Joe
  13. I should be able to help. I just need to know a time so I can clear it with the wife. Do you need anything else? Water jugs, buckets, etc? Joe
  14. I can try to take a look at the tank, but I wouldn't be able to get there until the weekend most likely. PM me if this is OK. Joe
  15. I've never had any problems with the bristle worms that I had. When the tank was taken down for moving we found at least 4 that were 8 or so inches long. I'd be interested in hearing about your DIY Bristle harpoon.
  16. Mark, I've been very happy with my false Percs. I had five originally. One of them moved to a nano tank and unfortunately one didn't make it through the move to the new house. dontknow.gif The three that are left don't leave the carpet anemone and have their own harem. They've never had any problems with the other tank mates or caused any problems. They did get ick when I first had them, but I hear that's not too uncommon with this fish when they're stressed. I just gave them a freshwater dip and it solved itself. I'm also jumping with joy as they've finally spawned for the first time. They're even letting the littlest clownfish stay in the anemone. blob7.gif If you want to come by since you're in the neighborhood, just let me know and you can see if you like their behavior. Joe
  17. Now that we've completed the move between houses, my 140 is in what will eventually be my office. Can anyone recommend a good in sump pump to replace a Mag 18 as a return pump? The key point is it needs to be quiet. Moving the sump and the return pump to another room like several others have done is not currently an option. Joe
  18. Here's the tank now that it's settling in.
  19. It looks like the tank is finally settling in now. Overall, I think the only casualty was the littlest clownfish. Everything is opening and seems to be getting over the shock of the move. I'll try to post a new picture in a few days. Big thanks to Mike, Brian, and Stephen. Joe
  20. All, I'm going to be moving my 140G to the new house on Sunday, Oct 29? If anyone would be willing to help with the move, I would be very appreciative. I'm afraid there's not brisket this time, but I can promise pizza and or beer (after the tank is moved naturally). PM me if you are willing. Thank you, Joe
  21. Congratulations! Are you going to pass out the cigars now?

The brown algae is nothing to worry about. It's just diatoms - the simplest algae. As your tank matures you'll go through several blooms like this. I would remove the fish and repatriate them to the LFS and add much more live rock. I'd also start putting some macroalgae in the sump to help with the Nitrates as you start to develop those. It's also great to jumpstart the pod growth. If you want a handfull, give me a PM and I'll pull some out. Joe
  23. EJ, Take whatever size tank you think you want now and multiply the gallons by 2 (or more depending on your reef addiction). You'll want that eventually so just get it first. Joe

    Howdy

Be nice John, that was Aggie brisket last weekend.
  25. All, Katrina and I loved hosting the meeting and were very glad to meet everyone. We're looking forward to having a meeting in the Spring when we've moved to our new house. John & Brian - thank you for the excellent demo and not demo-ing my tank in the process. Also thank you for the frag donation. Carlos - once again thank you for the great prizes. One day I'm going to win one and my six year old will find a way to steal it from me. Joe
