+1 for vinegar water, and gettn the tank drilled B4 u get it up and running. A 40G sump will be fine, thats what size i have on my 120G. Skimmer=GET A GOOD ONE say atleast one for up to 150G tank. That shld get u started for now.

i agree Hydro-i probly hv close to 10k invested in my set-up and when my chiller went out i to freeked out, and i wsnt home to do anything about it. Just glad that the breaker the chiller and MHs were on, were on the same so that when the chiller tripped it turned off the MHs also not to cook the tank. Cant wait to get the new chiller. If my power goes out my generator is big enuff to power tank, and all my fridges to keep food good, thats all i need. Water, i always hv about 55 gallons of RO so ive got it covered. oh and its always good to hv an extra return pump handy!!!!

1st thing id do is THROW away the Flake food period...use frozen food, strain it with R/O water then feed fish, cut back on feeding, the fish will live feeding them once a day. That away they eat everything u put in there once, and not pick and choose, 2nd buy 2 Two little fishys reactors and run GFO(ROWAPHAUS) in one and CARBON in the 2nd. Change one a month. Rowa is exspensive but its the best on the market. Bulk reef supply sells one comparable also. Carbon, look for one with no PHOSPHATES in it, i use the Marineland, why I ask a friend and thats what the recomended. I wash it with RO water also. NUTRIENT export is the main issue. CUC(clean up crew) mmmmmm.... in my 120g i put 200 redlegs(cause they typicaly dont kill eachother for there shell, they eat algae) and 150 snails. in a 2 week period u couldnt grow algae anywhere in my tank. but now i hv to feed them to keep them alive. I just use a sinking food at night after the light go out.(so the fish dont eat it). Maybe with all our comments ur issue will clear up.

if u want SPS then a sump IMO is the only way to go, LPS and softies like dirty watter therefore the canister would be fine. It can be done with SPS and canister but u HAVE 2 clean it EVERY week. otherwise=realy bad algae problems. +1 for what Mike has said. figure out which direction ur gonna go then design the system to fit the application. I dont mean to sound like an A S S, sorry if it sounds that away. I tried for 2 yrs with a canister and SPS and had problems all the time. Oh and it was a Rena XP3 didnt like it.

thought that id put my four wheeler up forsale, i jsut purchased it in April of this year new. It the Can-Am Outlander XT 800. It has a S h i t load of power and in the accident all that happend was the frnt bmpr plastic got a few scratches on it. I need to clean it up other than that its new, havent even made it to the 10hr break in yet. Im gonna ask less than what i owe on it cause i dont think i need to get back on it. If someone wants to take over payments thats fine to just have to get with my credit union and figure out how to transfer. I think i owe a little over $8K new retails for $11K-12K. LMK if ur interested. oh this thing from the factory has like 79HP and is yellow on black v twin engine. BADD A S S machine to say the least.

hydro- my plan is to get a battery backup(huge one) and a little Honda generator that auto starts if the tank looses power. its in the planning stage right now. I hv an old loud *** generator now but u hv to start it manualy.
