  1. oh my. i dont use my fuge for pod production. i use it because it adds water to the system. it is open. my tanks are over under. so both are open to the view of the room. but it is basically an empty 30 gal tank.
  2. i have a 30 gal fuge. its not what you were looking for. but i wouldl ove to give him a home. he would be on his own. there is quite a bit of rockwork and some cheato. i would glady put in some fake anenome stuff. (no not the plastic ones from petsmart that will shred) but what i find. no i dont have an anenome.
  3. there is nothing wrong with flat worms. they produce no toxins, poisions and do not hurt harm or mess with any of your livestock. they are little worms with a pharanyx on thier belly and suck up detritus etc. the only way to get rid of them is to find something that will eat them. but there is nothing wron with them. they are just little scavangers that will find waste in the tank. you just have some bio-diversity.
  4. sounds like some sort of amphipod or copepod. small crustaceans. some can be redish. if you see one again grab a magnifing glass. it will look like an alien version of a pillbug.
  5. ive had success with stuffing it with sponges etc. but mine is a HOB cheap nasty prizm. it works but man what a pain.
  6. sorry what? tank of the quarter? top of the quilt?
  7. check the garage sales. ive found all my strip lights for a dollar or 2. then get better bulbs from the local stores. i have 3 strip lights i used on my ten gal. one has a new actinic light, one has 2 new 50\50 lights, the last one is just an old school bulb that came with it. i have em now on my 30 gal tank. total i think they are around 60 watts or so. i used all three on my ten. I really dont now lights well but the three lights together worked well for the softies i had. oddly now that i have a bigger tank the xenia just does not survive... anyway if you dont find anything pm me.
  8. wait so you fixed it? or was it not a problem and go away?
  9. open the system. hmm. ok. hook it all up so water "could" be pumped up and drained down. let it equalize. so let anything drain from the top that will drain down to sump. this will show how much water drains from the top tank. now the top tank will be a few inches lower and the sump will be partially filled. now fill up the sump to the point where you feel it is filled. then turn on the filters. now the tank (if using overflow stuff) will fill to the right level and the sump will become a a little less. BUT do not fill the sump back up. when you turn off the filters again the water will contiue to drain from the top tank. if you fill up the sump that difference is going over the side!! Have fun!
  10. http://mars.reefkeepers.net/USHomePage/USA...atorSoufre.html anyone tried anything like this? it looks like a really cool idea. diy looks like fun.
  11. where are these? i dont think i can pass this up. what is the dimentions of em? will they fit in a camry? do they come with stands? or are stands available?
  12. i am curious as what is the truth behind this. i dont doubt the spectrum may shift, but how much is what i question. if the spectrum shifts mabye a dozen nm is that really a big deal? i dont think it shifts 3 digits of nm shift. and what does a dozen or few dozen nm shift reallly do to an aquarium? i wonder how much is just what is always thought as the best but doesnt really do anything vs good advice. i would love to do test, 2 tanks, one with old lights vs another with new lights. see what grows doesnt etc. but that might be a fun experiement for another time.
  13. so its the top ten things for emergency right? and has time and place been schedualed?
  14. the city should report what is in the water right? i remember i found it for san diego ca a report that had in ppm all the diff stuff in the water from copper to chlorine etc

  16. the dorms closed for thanksgiving. so that means the ponies are comming home with me for the holiday break. not really a problem, but what worried me was the corals I jsut started to get into. what would happen in 5 days? in the end i have some light on a 5 hour timmer. left the filter and heater on. so hopefully nothing leaks or super evaporates. the ponies came home in a 5 gal bucket. but the problem was when i got home i realized i did not have the supplies i thought i had. i had no bubbler and no heater. so i stole the heater from my mothers tank, the tetras will be ok. it is a 40 gal heater for a 5 gal bucket. the temp is right its just kinda uneasy haveing so much power. and all i have are 30+ gal filters. it turns out all my ten gal filters and bubblers are broken... i have one that sort of drips water? so the ponies had incredibly low water flow. i also forgot the food. so i have to got to go to the store today and buy some food. but that is not so terribly bad. well what is to be expected? nothing is terribly easy. least not with seahorses. its not that it is difficult. i just find a way to make the simple thing into a terribly difficult endevor.
  17. just another fyi, always buy captive bred. wild caught really put money in people's hands who shouldnt get paid for what they do. seahorse populations in the wild are being decimated for a variety of reasons. an eco friendly opportunity is available for horses, please use them! then again im a fishery major...

  19. DUDE I WANT IT! I HAVE the cash. 512 809 2348. i just triedcalling.
  20. it probably will not hurt them to leave them in. the salt should mix quickly enough. but do take them out and clean it. if sand by chance got in there it could damage the magnet. the salt i doubt would stay in crystal form long enough to scratch the magnet. the mixing will help disolve the salt faster.
  21. ? im guessing it is something like a powerchord like a computer? where one end is special for the fixture and the other is 2 or 3 pronged? or is the chord just damaged? if it didnt come with a chord that is reason enough to return it and have it replaced. it could of been purchased before you and returned without the chord by mistake.
  22. if its something other than white sand colored awsome.
  23. if your looking at seahorses the best place to buy online is seahorsesource.com. draco marine closed down. please dont buy the 20$ kellogii, they are pen raised horses that are full of disease and dont tend to last very long. at least that is the experience of most people that buy them. (info from the seahorse forum seahorse.org) if you do have them then do not mix them with captive bred because your captive bred with thier non existant imune system they will probably get sick and croak. that happened to me. seahorsesource.com has fair prices. great help. other sites are listed on seahorse.org i bought my H. comes from a private dealer. they were 45$ plus 40 shipping fofr the lot. sorry but horses are not really that cheap. what is your horse tank like? but to be honest they are going to be at least 40$ each plus shipping.
  24. i would love to buy some cheaper soft corals. preferably softies because they are easy anyone selling xenia, shrooms, trees or polyps?
  25. ok so apparently the last one didnt post. so ill start this from the begging. Moved onto Texas State University and I looked for a way to bring seahorses into the dorm. this presented several problems, the school's rules say no tank over 10 gallons. because I love overfiltration there is no way i would keep a few ponies in just a ten gallon tank. the logistics would be so difficult to keep the tank clean when feeding frozen mysis. so the plan was to add a sump, how to do that without adding more glass? use a rubbermaid storage container. so i will try to describe the set up as best possible. i will add photos later. i had the ten gal tank sitting on 6" of 2x4 i bought from homedepot. this was to raise it up 6". on the tank was an 18" tall hang on the back trickle filter filled with biomedia. i had a whole drilled in the back with a laser by a trophy shop. (by the way if you ever need anything drilled call them, the cut took 2 min and was perfectly round clean and no sharp edges! 10$. i put in a bulkhead (pain in the butt as aquadome sold me the wrong size...) then had that gravity drain down to a 55 gal rubbermaid tub. i used a rena XP2 to push water back to the tank, but that caught fire. always thought it was a terrible filter. well then i replaced it with a magnum 350. wonderful filter, quieter, no airleakes, easier to clean, no water spills, primes better. ah! i love marineland, that and kent. the tank had three light strips on it, sitting on a 2 by four. the sump had a 55gal pc light on it. in the tank i had some lr, inch and half sand, 15 mangrove trees, dragons breath macro, cheato, grape calurpa, blade calurpa, 3 pepermint shrimp, and 4 tiger tailed seahorses or H. Comes. everything went wonderfully for a long while. then the tank broke. yea the ten gal tank cracked while i was on the phone telling a girlfriend how everything was going great. yea just like you would see on tv... somehow in the transfer of everything to a bucket a seahorse fell out and died. transfered everything to 2 30 gal tanks in an over under setup. the rubbermaid was thrown out. i think the ten gal was jsut not able to handle the weight of the trickle filter. waited a week for everything to settle, moving a sand bed can be messy. well that is my adventure so far.. only recent developments has been a cyno outbreak. i have no noticable ammonia, nitrite and 20 nitrate. but i have cyno everywhere. ill try to see if i can find more plants to absorb the nutrients. the really odd thing is that i have that and diatoms on the glass in the main tank but the tank below, has NOTHING growing. really odd the sump grows nothing.
