i also be careful with the freshones at least because in many places they are illegal. growing like weeds is an understatement. more like a pandemic is more like it. we spent a week studying the impact non native bivalves have on american ecosystems and how far across the country they have spread.

we had them in my high school class. the teacher bought six, dumped them in her tank in the class room. although it had no heater, just a small sponge filter. it was just a thing of salt water and sand that sat there for 6 months. they lasted the entire semester from what i remember.

only worry about them being predatory when it looks big enough to take down a snail. But really most are scavengers. They are really col creatures and good for keeping tank clean. Nothing wrong with them. Personally i think they are really cool.

I stand corrected. I obviously have much to learn about this. Where can i find more about this system of tanks?

oh yes. i can agree with that. I love natural tanks. Those that run without massive amounts of chemicals or artificial uses. The problem isn't it that those are only possible with larger tanks? a 30 gal is not large enough to do such a set up is it?

what kind of dosing are needed with a Fish only? it is much less than compared to daily maintenance of salt. While I admit its not a huge ordeal it is more work.

oh heavens salt can be very easy. Its just i dont have the money to get lights, substrate, rock, or salt, or the time to mess with daily salt checks and top offs. Cichlids are very easy, keep water in the tank and the filter clean...

I've got an empty 30 gal tank that is cycling. anyone have some over populated ciclid tanks? Just thought to ask. s

in my experience no. I had a big sump a few feet from a tank a year ago and i didnt have problems with flow. You do lose some energy but i never noticed it being anything to gripe about. Just be sure its done well because I made the mistake of half-a#@ it and a pipe came loose and water everywhere.

i had 3 jewels in there before and a bala shark. but they ate the shark and i wasnt sure if they were kept in too small a tank. i wanted to besure i didnt make a stocking mistake. thanks for the advice.

I have i think its about 30 gal. Its 12 tall, 18 deep and 36or so long. i know its pretty shallow but it does have some depth and length. Is that in yall opinion suitable for some cichlids? I'm looking to set up a tank now that im back in the usa (and finally have my own place!!). I was looking at cichlids because they are (in my experience) hard to kill and ,most importantly, can be seen from across the room. I would love to set it up for some seahorses again but i just dont have the money or time to deal with salt water. i should probably specify cichlids. I was directing that toward africans, such as jewel cichlids. If such fish won't work i am open to suggestions.

I have not been here for a while. However I do remember many of the members are interested if not professional Photographers. I have just made my first attempt at a portfolio. long time no post yall. anyone ever kept bamboo sharks? i have no intention of keeping one anytime in the immediate future but research always takes time. I see a lot of things that always seem to condradict the other pertaining to sharks in the home. On some places i see mostly a 150 will be fine from reports of people who have kept them while out on monsterfishforum i see 600 gal minimum. i see them sold often enough, is it just one of the critters that has no business being in a LFS? Or can they be kept at home with proper planning?

It amazes me honestly. 4th of july is when we celebrate our independence from england, when the ideals of farmers overthrew the most powerful military power of the time. We celebrate our group mentality as a nation that we are free to live, love and be. You have a problem with Bush? Ok so our free nation is going to get rid of him. Heck in San Francisco a group is going to rename a sewage plant after him in his honor. You think other countries could get away with that? No OUR FREE NATION gives us that right to ridicule our president to no end! That is what it means to be free. That is reason to celebrate. Our privledges that is second to none is why americans were the first to fly a self powered airplane in the carolinas, the first to revolutionize personal trasportation from ford. Our flags are made in China? Many of thier crops are grown here... Consumer whores... I am sorry you feel that way. I dont know what to tell you. We have money and people like to shop. I am sorry our country has been so prosperous that our citizens have extra money to spend and free time to enjoy hobbies not required to live like golf or keeping fish... Yes it is horrible that our country has been wealthy and prosperous. Being a world leader in technological advances is horrible for our people. I am proud I live in America. I am proud that I can go to school and one semester study biology and the next study history. My friends in China do not have that opportunity. They can not study abroad. I have already studied 2x abroad because I have had opportunities to, by winning scholarships to study in Japan and France. Sure we have problems but the fact that we CAN do something about our political or social issues is why we celebrate the 4th. That we have the OPPORTUNITY and RIGHT to change the way we think, act, vote, believe and behave... I love this Country and Proud to be American.

I am Proud to be American because of all the opportunities I have had and been able to take advantage of. Here is a land where anything is possible!

hey yall, long time no see. i need to empty everything. i got accepted to wuhan university in central china. now i have to raise funds to pay for it. as i will not be using any of this stuff for years might as well put it to use. tanks, 10, 20, 30 & 30 gal long tanks stands for just about all of em most are over under style a have 2 boxes of fish equipment. filters, fluidized bed filters, undergavel filters, NO lights of all sizes, decorations, etc im not looking to make a lot, but i need to 1, empty the garage space to store more important stuff and 2, trying to raise whatever funds i can. i also have other non reef stuff 2 sets of golf clubs rc trainer airplane w controller & bucket of RC extras (motors, chargers, cables, etc) text books, many textbooks used at TX state for freshman classes. 512 809 2348 madison

your right. it has to be that. because all of a sudden when i click the fn+F4 the button on my hp that switches video modes. the tv will flash the computer screen for a moment before turning off then goign back to my laptop. so i know the connection goes through. i just cant figure out how to make it stay. under the display settings i can have 2 monitors. also under nvidia it can be tv + laptop screen. but so far i cant figure out how to configure the settings so it just stays up on the tv. what i do seem to of figured out is if on display settings i enable "extend desktop to this monitor" essientially 2 monitors then the video mode switch shortkey does nothing. but if i disable it then the tv will flash the desktop for a moment before flicking off then reappearing on the desktop.

so if upgrading the pump is not an option i need to make the overflow utube smaller in diameter? im thinking some teflon tape and tape up 30% of the intake end of the tube?

i had some time and i was trying to work on the computer. i found a chord in a box that is a 7-pin svideo to yellow RCA. i thought hey use the TV as second monitor. i know the quality is low but hey that would be neat. the yellow end is in the tv, plugged to the computer via 7pin conversion. turned everything on and nothing happnened. the computer worked well. the computer was working as two, i believe because the mouse scrolled right of the screen a ways then took a ways to come back. but nothing came up on the screen. not any indication that any sort of signal is comming through. i tried changing the video settings etc. i know the input works. i tried plugging in the dvd player via a 4-pin svideo to the yellow chord and it still didnt work. so im guissing its either the yellow chord or the svideo input? the tv shouldnt care what information is being sent to it? does the svideo to that yellow chord converters work? is it likely that just the yellow chord is bad? do they go bad? i tried the computer on the other input and nothing happened. anyone have ideas?
