  3. You make it sound so easy! Somehow I always end up drinched and with a strained hand. Often times I set them aside and forget. They end up drying with all that crap on them and thus twice as hard to clean.
  4. Yeah, I don't have any problems with noise or bubbles. I'm gonna run sockless for a while and see what happens.
  5. Is it absolutely necessary to use a filter sock? I find that it is the biggest pain in my maintenance schedule. My skimmer is rated at more than three times my water volume. Could I get away with out using one?
  6. Very kewl. Thanks for sharing.
  7. Hey, I was doing some market research and discoverd the Austin Pond Society. It's another local Austin club just like us, so I thought I would share. Anyone here a member?
  8. I'd love to borrow it. Let me know next time your at River City.
  9. I got this response from RC. But I'm just trying to define the process it takes to identify. Is it soley based on shape? What other factors are involved?
  10. any guesses? First is an acro? Second is encrusting?
  11. Just curious, how long is the poll goning to run? If there's a tie will there be a sudden death vote off?
  12. Hey guys, What's the best way to learn names of sps? Is there a particular resource you find especially helpful? Anyone know specific names for these? Thanks for the help.
  13. My main concern would be is the information still accurate? I found a marine aquarium book that I had when I was going up, and when I was reading through it, I was baffled at how much information was wrong. The hobby has come a log ways since 1988 and we are continually learning more information and better practices. Also, you mentioned that the publication has been renamed. Does this mean that they are still producing the magazine? Do you have the rights to post the articles from 88-01? If so, go for it.
  14. I've added "Tank Size" in the profile area. It's limited to 7 characters. It's also displayed under your name each time you post a message.
  15. Then what is that butt ugly starfish for?!?! JK Thanks for the advice.
  16. If by problem you mean bare spot, then yes. Although when I had the streams turned all the way up it still blew it around. I ended up putting them at half power, and taking the stream in the right front out. I figured it was just too much flow. For now, while my tank is not fully stocked, I'm just going to run the two 6100s and save the other for a backup.
  17. I've had some plans come up, and I'm not going to be able to attend. I think it would be great if someone would take some detailed notes. If you send them to me, I can post them as a resouce for everyone to look at. Also, please consider posting all the good photos from the meeting in the meeting section of the gallery. I'd love to see some before and after shots.
  18. Well after much debate I finally added some crushed coral to fill in the bare spot in the middle of the tank, which was left by all my flow. I must say that I absolutely hate the crushed coral, but it is much better than the bare spot. I ended up mixing all the substrate in the tank to give it a homogenous look. First decent full tank shot:
  19. Looking for a Green Birds Nest. Small colony at least golf-ball size preferable.
  20. Did you know we have a spell check? Well not really, because it's only for Internet Explorer and it makes you dowload the spell check extension. I discoverd it while doing some unrelated research, and wanted to test it. Here is some screen shots. Prompt you get when you don't have the extenstion installed: Spell check in action: I like to test everything to avoid problems and keep everyone happy, and this was just something I didn't know about because I don't use IE very much, so I thought I would share. Happy spelling.
  21. In my experience, when I put two juvenile clowns, of the same size, in a tank. It takes about a week of bickering for them to figure out who is boss. The may nip at each other’s fins damaging the clear part, but it will heal very quickly given adequate conditions.
  22. Looks more modern with the black background. Good shots.
  23. I recall john saying he lines their monster with Kalk paste to kill the bacteria. (correct me if i'm wrong) I never smell mine unless I remove the lid.
