  1. Anyone know what these little guys are? I stare into my tank incessantly, and was very surprised to just notice them. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  2. Sorry to hear it didn't work, and good luck catching the Goldrim. I made an acrylic trap that i fill with food. It has a sliding glass door that is held open with a pin attached to a string, and when the right fish is in the box I pull the pin. It can take while for everyone to figure out which end to enter the box from, but then it's gravy after that. The PT is still in time-out until Wednesday. Seems to have chilled out though. Not much aggression when the YT swims nearby. We'll see! Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  3. @Timfish: The PT was in there with a very old YT that died a couple of weeks ago. It lasted almost 10yrs. Now there's a new YT. I'll report back when I cut the PT loose in a week or so. @o0zqrkwater: I've never had a fish be indefinitely aggressive, so hoping this does the trick. If not, good idea, I'll use a mirror for a distraction if necessary, otherwise I'll just catch the PT again and try for longer. This aggression was intense. The YT would've lasted a few days at best. Hope your goldrim gets over it, but it's hard not to be pessimistic after 2 months. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  4. Couple of weeks sounds about right, thanks. The PT and the old YT were in there together for 8yrs w/no issues, so hopefully once things get settled it'll stay that way. We'll see! Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  5. Purple tang was trying its best to kill a new YT, so it's now in time out. How long do you all recommend for the status dynamics to change? Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  6. Just an interesting little piece on bristle worms in the reef tank. https://fishlab.com/bristle-worms/ Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  7. Ty, thanks for hosting us, and for the fine hospitality! Great meet. We appreciate your enthusiasm and willingness to share, man. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  8. Is she eating? I'm at Manchaca and Old Manchaca. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  9. I'll take the Miyagi tort. Mine was recently knocked off its base down into the LR and is in bad shape now. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  10. I'm really sorry to hear about your tank man. These are the incidents that test our resolve as hobbyists. I know you love your tank though, and that you'll be able to get it back to the amazing condition it was in. Traveling is one of the biggest challenges to reef keeping. I lost an entire tank when traveling to Asia for a month at a time. Our friends and families just aren't as prepared or invested in making sure everything's done right, nor can we honestly expect them to be. That said.. Are there bonded services that will come to a home and tend to a reef tank? Is that even a thing? I've always wondered, but never really checked because I don't think I'd trust a stranger to come into my home while I'm gone, and wonder whether anyone would truly do what it takes to tend to my tank in emergency conditions. Besides, how incredibly expensive would that be?? So stressful. Hope things get back under control fast. Keep us posted. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  11. +1 on Timfish's comment about urgency depending on how your corals are reacting. I was assuming that the only evidence of a problem was your test results. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  12. Trying to get there all at once isn't advisable, since you know abrupt changes are rarely a good thing. Recommend doing a sizeable water change if possible, then test calc again to see where it's sitting. Then increase your daily Calcium 2 part dose to the high end of what you're comfortable with (I've gone as high as 50ml/day), testing both CA and Alk daily until Ca gets back up to where you want it. If your Alk is where you want it, just keep doing what you've been doing. I've run my Alk that high. My two cents.. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  13. Increased feeding and thinned out the cheato, and colors are starting to come back. I'll post some more pics soon. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  14. The amazing tridacna noae used to be fairly available, but it's been a really long time since I've seen one in LFS, or online. Anyone know what the story is? Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk

I just got a couple of xf230s and a cotroller to complement 2 external 1200gph powerheads, and I really like em so far. Hoping they last. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  16. Thanks man. I've started a schedule to rotate biweekly and minding the amount for regular removal. We'll see how much I actually need to maintain the right levels of nutrients. I'd be surprised if I find that I don't need it at all.
  17. Sascha I missed your question about macro sorry. I only have chaeto in the sump, but there's a lot of it. I've started pulling some out. Started out with multiple macros from Aquadome, but the others died off and chaeto took over. The top is always neon green where it's exposed to the LED I've got down there, and who knows what's going on underneath there as I have a crappy prehistoric sump sitting in one of those grey rubbermaid tubs. Can't see sh*t. Relic of when I first set the tank up and had no idea which way was up. But it's one of those things that will be such a PITA to fix, that it's always a "next year" project lol. Not even sure how I got that rubbermaid in there; it'll be nearly impossible to get back out smh. I digress..
  18. 3x5"?? Lol hopefully we won't have any of that! Good luck with the mystery coral. Your corals grow like weeds so it shouldn't take long to find out.. If you want one of those nems back in the future just let me know. And please keep us posted on what you decide to do about your lights. I'm interested to hear which way you end up going.. 19. Gracias Sascha. The Tort is at least hulking out, and has retained its color, so I just need to be patient. The Bonsai is the slowest grower. It's been steadily encrusting, so that's good - I've read and Ty explained that they like to establish a strong base before beginning to branch out. I hope to get it to color back up, along with the green goblin and the purple poisonberry. Both of those have seen good growth, though, which seems inconsistent with losing color.. Hey I think I forgot to tell you yesterday that the rainbow BTA I got from you split a few weeks ago. The small one roamed uncomfortably close to some SPS, but has since moved back near the mother. You got rid of all 3 of yours right?
  20. Thanks Jimbo and Ty. This is exactly the guidance I need. PO4 target of .08 then, got it. I don't feed very heavily, have a monster skimmer, dose nopox and tend to let the macro algae grow unchecked. Will possibly add a morning round of reef energy A & B to start with. Thinking one variable at a time though, just in case [emoji15] Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  21. Ty, you run PO4 below. 08, or. 18? And thanks. It's hard to tell how I'm doing sometimes; nice to get some eyes on the progress. I appreciate the great frags I got from you as well! Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  22. Thanks Jimbo. I'll shoot for PO4 between .14 and .18 then. Maybe I'll do another round of pics once the nutrients increase to show impact on colors. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  23. Thanks Reefpuck. I'm sure others have had much better results. Hopefully these pics can be one possible frame of reference. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  24. I'll take it. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
