Start with the easy stuff. Confirm your measurements with other reefers or stores test kits. 

Salinity, temperature, ammonia are the parameters that can kill quickly. Dissolved oxygen is there also, but is harder to measure. As long as water is moving youre probably ok. 

Another thing to consider is pathogens. It might be a good idea to leave your display tank without fish and try to treat them in a quarantine setting with either chloroquine phosphate or copper. 

If your coral is thriving, it seems more likely to be a pathogen killing fish, and then something else messing with the inverts...

TTM is awesome for ich, not as awesome for other pathogens like brook/velvet. In fact, it can suppress their appearance until they get into a stable body of water (i.e., your display). 

But wait, you're not out of luck. The fish doc guru has a method of tank transfer using h2o2 that seems to be working pretty well.

Efficiency is gonna be junk and not operate well with a PAC. They just die mysterious deaths. 

Does the minisplit still produce condensate inside that you'll have to get rid of? If you mount the air handler high, you might be able to gravity flow it outside. 

Portables go to poop when you extend those hoses and that pump will 100% fail if you put that kind of head on it. Do the mini split unless you have an exterior wall.

It’s gonna make the garage hot and humid. Also the efficiency is junk unless you have one with two hoses that has intake and exhaust to the exterior.

Every tank is a dissertation. I can only imagine that theyre just getting started at understanding natural systems, much less the unnatural systems we build. 

That said Im still super interested.
