  1. You have to remove the old silicone first. New silicone won't stick to old silicone. This is the most common mistake that people make. You have to use a razor and mineral spirits to clean off ALL of the old silicone. Once everything is clean it is no different from caulking anything else. More is not better, it just takes longer to cure and tends to look bad. Use just enough to create a nice smooth bead in the edges.
  2. I have: 185rr with stand and hood, $1000 120rr with stand and hood, $400 240rr acrylic 4x4x2, $800 Nothing cheap of any size. I do have a 20, 29, 37, 50, 55 in various qualities if you are interested. I do have large tubs you can borrow if you would like. Dave
  3. I think I might have something that will fit. I will check tonight. What size is your current tank?
  4. TMAC is from 9-6. So you could make TMAC and the ARC meeting. No itinerary has been listed by MAAST yet.
  5. I have diamond embedded drill bits and cooling oil. I was not surprised to see this one crack. It was just a cheap 10g with thin glass. This is the first tank that I have had fail on me. I will have to try the polarized lens idea. Some manufacturers will labeles their tempered glass but you never know for sure. Most tank bottoms are tempered, which is why I have never drilled the bottom of a tank.
  6. This is why you don't drill tempered glass. This is also the only way I know to find out for sure if glass is tempered
  7. More info here... http://www.marinecenter.com/fish/gobies/flamingprawngoby/ It is a really cool fish!
  8. Have you checked craigslist? I have seen a few different bowfronts out there recently.
  9. Forever. Just take it apart and make sure the impeller is in good shape. You can always replace the impeller if needed.
  10. Melev and Buckeye Field Supply have some good prices on good units. I like the security of RO/DI but I have run multiple, very successful tanks on treated tap water. Central Texas water is verry hard which means there is lots of calcium and minerals in the water. Coral love this. Green algae is photosynthetic and long light cycles will make it grow like a weed.
  11. Tap water is fine as long as you treat it for chlorine. Algae is caused by nutrients. You need to increase you nutrient export and decrease the inport. How many fish do you have and how often do you feed? The Fluval is probably not doing you any good. In fact it can act as a breeding ground for nutrient producers. More water changes and a better skimmer will help. There is no magic panacea for algae. If you are worried about you tap water, get it tested. You should also test you tank water. That will give you a good idea where the nasties are coming from. Adding a RO or RO/DI unit is a great way to go. You will know exactly what is (or is not) in your water. Of course you have to supplement lots more calcium for what the carbon sucks out of the tap water.
  12. Get one of these. I like mine. http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewItem~cat...y~FIMTAMAC.html

  14. I didn't know feather dusters were included. Are coco worms and xmas tree worms?
  15. It is looking great! Keep sharing pictures...
  16. Man, you have lots of room in there...
  17. It is the kind of cam that those OCC guys use in their spider bike engines.
  18. The only way I know to tell if a tank is tempered is to break the glass and watch how it shatters. Generally you can make an educated guess by who made the tank and what thickness of glass they used. I think all of the little tanks are tempered so they can use thinner, cheaper glass. All of the thicker glass that I have worked on has not been tempered. Most places only spend the extra manufacturing dollars to temper the bottom glass since it needs to be the most impact resistant. That is why I don't drill tank bottoms.

    Free clam mantle

FYI, it is not a clam mantle. It is some sort of fox coral skeleton.
  20. They are 55/65w bulbs. It is a great fixture, perfect for a 30" long tank. It would work real well on a 20g long.
