  1. So I got a job in another state starting in June and we are going to keep my car and my husband's work van but have to sell his commuter car because it would cost us alot to ship it and my job is only providing us with some of the relocation costs. We put it up on Craigslist just last night. It has 168,000 miles and runs like a champ. It has had regular maintenance and oil changes. He just replaced the battery and brakes. It has never been smoked in and has an extremely clean exterior and interior. There are a few minor blemishes on the outside just from normal wear and tear. The dark black tint was professionally put on just last summer and was worth every penny in this Texas heat. The AC runs cold and the 5 speed transmission is smooth. He is available to show it tomorrow (Sunday) if anyone is interested and will also be available throughout the rest of the week as well. You can call David at 512-902-0018 or [email protected] THANK YOU! PRICE: $2750
  2. Just to give everyone an update: My name is Angela and I'm a senior at the University of Texas majoring in marine and freshwater science. I had a reef tank for a little while and turned it over to another fellow reefer before I began my current final semester due to the intensity of my program. I have met a lot of nice people here that are crazy enthusiastic about reef keeping which is really cool to someone who also loves the hobby and is generally interested in the science behind it all. So anyways my hard work is finally paying off, and I will be moving up to the Pacific Northwest in June to start my new job as a Marine Mollusc Taxonomist. Pretty cool huh? So basically I will get a decent salary to sit in a lab and identify bivalves and gastropods from all over the world. It may not be my 'dream job' but being fresh out of college, I think it is a nice stepping stone in my career.
  3. I'm totally guilty... but thank goodness my husband is so oblivious to the things that occur in the fish tank, he never notices when a new coral pops up mysteriously
  4. One ric, yellow palys, and leather (picture to come later) still available. Thanks for your interest!
  5. brain and 1 ric sold -I have a medium sized - what I believe is devils glove or some sort of leather- It started in my tank with smooth texture and emerald green in color but then turned tan in color and started growing polyps- (will upload pic tomorrow, camera needs charging) - maybe someone can explain the transformation phenomena that has occurred $15
  6. And if any of you think any of my prices are unfair for anything that Im selling now or in the future, please let me know, Im not the best at pricing things, I just try to look at what people have priced their stuff at in the past. I want to be fair, make friends, and not appear as if I'm a jerk
  7. Biocube> I have no idea. I just tried to google eyelash coral and nothing came up so I couldnt tell you the street name of them. But they are pretty common in the aquarium trade. Just not sure of the name people give them.
  8. both rics and brain pending - will respond to pms soon (im in class) I have a nice piece of LR with yellow palys (10 total- 5bigs and 5 littles) This thing grows like a weed -- $10
  9. Well Im looking to sell a few things to help make a small dent in the cost of the new lights that I want. I have two small rainbow ric mushrooms - each on their own rock - 10$ each Purple and Green Brain coral - $40 I also have some fairy dust palys and I could frag a few if anyone is interested in that as well Pickup saturday from 1-6pm - or I will be in north central Austin having my birthday lunch with a girlfriend around noon if you just want to meet me wherever we decide to go and I'll bring the frag with me- I understand not wanting to drive up north to Cedar Park- I hate it too. -I will update later if there is anything else that Im willing to part with but these are just off the top of my head.
  10. Timfish> The more I learn, the more I realize how much I dont know... seems to be the story of my academic career at UT. I remember learning about lights and Kelvin a few years back in my first Physics course, but it has since all escaped me. So basically what you're saying is that I can go with one shade of white and it will not compromise anything to my knowledge, OR I could do a mixture of whites, and it may or may not benefit the corals depending on what light specificities that they require. Seems like I have a decision to make. I will probably get on the phone or email the rapidled folks and have them guide me or educate me a little better before I make a call on the colors just to be sure. Since I plan on going dimmable, and only using 20, out of the 24 leds, it will allow me the option to play around with whatever color configuration so I definitely dont think I can go wrong but I just want to make sure I do this right and to my best knowledge (which is still currently lacking). Thanks!
  11. Rgoodwill> I have my last final of this semester in 4 weeks which is most likely when I will plan on purchasing the new lights. If I get them now, it will just distract me from my studies. Slowwrx137> cool thanks, I will definitely check it out. Jason> That is good to know. But the RapidLed website for the solderless product I am looking at states that "Currently only royal blue, cool white and neutral white colors are available" so I am limited to these colors alone. Can you tell me the big difference between neutral white and cool white? I read one article about a few people's rants but curious as to what other information I am missing. Is it important to have all three? Do the different whites offer some significant difference that benefit the corals or is it for asthetic purposes that you would want to use the two different ones together along with the higher ratio of Royal blues.
  12. That RapidLed plug and play might be the winner. Now, with the LEDs do most people just stick with a 1:1 ratio of blues and whites? I'd prefer a more blue-ish look but not sure if the LEDs 1:1 would naturally produce something like that. . BiocubeD> when you get yours set up, and if you wouldnt mind, I might have to come check it out to see the look of your ratio and see if it is the kind of hue that I would like. Are you going for the dimmable version? Does RapidLed ship pretty quickly? Thanks everyone
  13. A part of me wishes that my husband could share the hobby with me... but then he would know how much all the corals I bring home cost

    that's a great looking colony!
  15. Rob> I am slightly weary of ebay's no-brand led's just from the couple reef threads I have researched but I will continue to do more research> Thanks! Biocube> That would be cool, let me know. I am willing to sacrifice my canopy and go open top but if I could keep the canopy, that would be awesome. Rgoodwill> I don't even trust my husband enough (in regards to fishkeeping) to top off the water everyday
  16. My husband won't let me get a larger tank until I finish school and find a job and move into a permanent living situation. So until then, I would like to make the most out of my little biocube and I would love to be able to keep sps and a clam, and also not have the tank look stark white like it does now with the PC lights that I have. I would say my budget is around $200 (preferably less) and I am not looking to purchase immediately. Sooner would be great but what I have now is adequate so I want to make the most informed decision and if it takes a few months to make up my mind then that is perfectly fine. So I don't think that I want a metal halide fixture because I dont want to have to purchase a chiller or worry about heat related issues. I would like LEDs but from what I know, they are relatively expensive, and I am not an electrician by any means so a DIY kind of thing worries me. I just don't trust myself when it comes to me putting together something that I know will be plugged into electricity. I do understand the benefit to having LEDs such as great efficiency, low heat, 50,000 hours of use (meaning not having to replace expensive bulbs every year). So I have been looking at some T5 fixtures just trying to figure it all out. From what I have heard, they do not create as much heat as MH which is kind of what I am going for. So there are several that Ive been looking at and Im sure there are tons more that I have not even seen or considered but basically they are 24 inch fixtures that all have 4 - 24w bulbs. My biocube has a depth of about 18 inches. Is 96 watts enough to support the sps and clam that I desire? Also are there cheaper LEDs fixtures that I am just unaware of where I would not have to DIY it myself. OR Should I suck it up and attempt a DIY? I also do not want to have to hang anything from the ceiling. Even after all the lighting research I have done, I still feel pretty ignorant about it all. And thanks to many of you that I have messaged about your personal lighting situations. I have a hard time choosing what I want to eat at a restaurant and now I have to make a decision that will affect my tankmates (and my wallet--err husbands wallet). So as you can see I really don't know what I'm doing, just trying to get as much info as possible. Thanks Angela

    sept 2011 tank

Nice tank! Let me know when your ready to harvest that xenia
  18. Thanks for the compliments. No clones yet, I keep looking at its mouth to see if there are any signs of splitting. I've only had it a few months but hopefully there will be a clone in the future and I can help spread the beauty.
  19. Thanks for all of your interest. It is pending one person before Mike. Also pending if I catch the little sucker. Still fishing...
  20. going to attempt to catch this little guy today so I wanted to line up someone who wanted him. He is small and adorable but I really want a mandarin and I believe this guy spends most of his time eating all my pods and compromising my pod population for when Im ready for the mandarin. He is perfect for a nano tank bc of his size. He has beautiful markings/color. Im going to try the old bottle trick and see what happens. Also open to trades (the photo is not the actual fish that I have but an identical representative)
  21. It took me an hour and a half to catch my starry blenny. I was ready to give up after a while but patience and persistence helped. I left the net in the tank the whole time so he would get used to it being in there and had the open part of the net facing the front of the tank so I could easily just pull it toward me in a quick motion to make a seal using the front glass panel while I made the million attempts to catch him. He was motivated by food so I just placed a piece of seaweed in between the mag float and moved it to the front glass and let my net sit and wait for him to go and start munching. My cleaner shrimp also loves the seaweed so this tactic might work for you as well. I hope I explained myself clear enough. Good luck
  22. If anyone is looking for a blenny that is an algae eating beast, I took my starry up to RC because I had no algae left for him to eat and he was thinning out. I did train him to eat seaweed too

  23. That is some nice craftsmanship with the hood and I like your "G" embellishment too. I wish I had some carpentry skills.
