  1. Hey my schedule is weird but I'm looking to get rocordia, mushrooms, hairy mushrooms; not really zoas unless they are very colorful, devil's hand, yellow fiji, other leathers, etc. and I'd like to stay close to this area. Nothing that requires direct feeding like duncans.

    No GSPs or xenia please.

I have a lot of purple shrooms, I'd prefer reds, blues, oranges, bright greens, yellow, pink... just not browns, dull greens or purples = got 'em.

I now it's picky, I don't mean to be but I'm willing to pay for it and I'm just curious who in the area might have some colorful soft corals they're ready to trim.

  2. Simmer down Timfish. My question is truly just a curiousity.

I don't have any stonies, just a few soft corals. I was only curious because I find that all documentation about calcium is for growth, not survivability. I'm only curious if anyone else knew something.

Personally I do kalk sometimes but not every top off. My tank has a good amount of coraline growing and my softies look happy... except I think my zoas may appreciate more light, or more varied bulbs. :)

  3. Just an off-the-wall question. Is calcium required for stony coral survival too or just growth.

So I was curious if a person had a tank with all the coral at the right length and he/she was very happy exactly how it all looked, can he/she stop adding Calcium at that point? I realize there's calcium in the salt when water changes are done, I also realize that snails need a bit of calcium. I'm strictly asking if you can stop adding calcium when you don't want the growth without the lack of higher calcium actually hurting the corals.

    Thanks,

    Bryan

  4. From a technical standpoint on a home network with only a few devices dhcp should not matter. When the lease renews 99.99% of the time re same IP address would be assigned by the router.

Agreed. I wonder what would happen though if the number assigned is out of the range the DHCP uses. I guess overall it depends on how they programmed the server to function in that situation.

  5. So you can get it from the home PC but not on the laptop... I set up an outside DDNS service so I could get this working on my iPhone outside of the house (I have a dynamic home IP like most home users). DynDNS.org is one of several free ones and worked perfectly with my LinkSys router. Maybe you need that for your laptop.

attached is my apex network setup just for grins. Also check the "unnofficial guide" for the Apex (also attached). Guided me through several steps pretty easily. (5.21mb)

  6. Do you have to use that netgear smart wizard? Didn't know if that was a middle software or that was direct access to the changes. Seems wierd you can't tell it several IP and ports nor can you choose UDP or TCP.

I've also read that Netgear routers have problems when remote management turned is turned on. Just a thought.

what if you try the http://192.168..1.50:80 instead of having the DNS translate?

  7. I don't have a netgear so sorry if I'm off, I can see on the right that you are in "port forwarding/port triggering" but it doesn't look like mine. Usually port forwarding will give you several rows to forward to many internal IPs. The page you have showing only allows one IP to be forwarded to. Check out my attachment just so you'll see how another one looks.

You also have openend over 5000 ports to all forward to that server IP .50. You want to be more specific and more secure. You'll notice on my attached pic that I have used the default port 80 and only port 80 for my Apex on the .60 address.

Try this, get it working on port 80. (put only port 80 in the start and end address). When you get that working you can try another port. Some ports may not work well with some protocols, who knows.

edit: some of those ports you are using are reserved for other software, other traffic, try to use one that you know will work, like the default 80 or one you've read doesn't have a lot of traffic on it.)

  8. I've had my Apex for over a month now. I do like it a lot but I do have to admit that if you don't have a lot of stuff to plug into it, I dont know about the $500 tag. I hope to evenutally to have more accessories. For instance, I don't have ATO, float switches, wireless wave makers, lights for dusk dawn or moon lights . I will say though that if you have powerheads that can handle being turned on/off, the Apex can be a wavemaker switching them on and off alternating anywhere from 1 second to like 999 seconds (or 999 minutes, can't remeember). That was worth the price tag to me.

I also like the feeding cycle and turning pumps off during certain water or filter changes. Fun on a smartphone too if you want to check in on it or even turn off something when you wife/gf/roomie calls saying the tank is making wierd noises.

Many videos on YouTube about it but you'll never really know until you take the plunge. Take a look at your wires. What would you plug into something that can be controlled? What just stays on no matter what so doesn't need to be controlled or monitored? That may be your first step in figuring out if this is for you or not.

  9. Understood there were two. I aslo see they connect together but I haven't seen any pics on how they plug into wall. Did one of them come with the wall plug or something they plug in that goes to the wall?

Last question, which bulb do you have on those? 453nm (Blue), 8000K (White) with 453nm (Blue) or 403nm (Ultraviolet). Doubt it's white but figured I'd make sure. I'm seeing they are $50 per strip no matter the type of light.

  10. I'm interested but I have to do some reading to see if they'll work for me. Can you tell me what this means? "I have 2 stunner LED an extended and obviously the power".

What are the lengths of each of these? So you have two and you like them, are you saying you are selling the two you use and like or two others?

  11. Hey Juiceman, I have one side for you if you want it. I'm in Cedar Park. It's the kind that folds so you can open the front but again, only one side so it will only cover half of your 90g.

You sure you want to cover your tank like that? Holds in a lot of heat and CO2.

I can leave it outside of my house on the frong side if you want to come get it.

  12. Just gave RCA the final list. I only had one person that didn't respond to me about the name (see above) I hope he/she is taken care of.

Jake will get the salt this Friday during the day. I'll try to get the time and edit this post but I'm sure it will be mid afternoon-ish.

When you go Friday to pick it up, just give them your name and pay for it then. Easy-cheesy.

  13. Hey guys. Thanks for your responses to getting your names to me. I only have one person's name left that I need sent over then I'll email Jake @ River City Aquatics.

And thank you all too. I need salt as well so thanks for jumping on this with me to save us all money.

I'll get the list to RCA, then we can go pick them up THIS FRIDAY 5/22 (not sure of a time).
