  1. Understood. I think mine rather whines too. I can hear it sometimes from several feet away and I have it dialed down. I think I'll go listen to Callahan's one day just to make sure it's not my particular one. My hopes are that I can get a 2nd one and the Apex module to control them. If not, I'll start over on pumps and investigate the 6105.

  2. order done. thanks for managing this.

funny, on one hand I wasn't thrilled that not every item is discounted. But on the other hand, because of the discounts, I had to struggle to find something to get my total back up over $175 for free shipping. ha

  3. Thanks Mike. I'll have to think about this all. The more I read about them both I see people are equally happy with either pump. I think I need to hear another MP40 or 60 to see if mine is making the noise that's expected, I do have it at less than 100% probably less than 80%. Meanwhile a hood might be in my future as well.

I appreciate your time and thoughts.

  4. I think you'd get plenty of coraline w/out adding calcium at this time (to answer your other post). Just a bit of patience and the right color of lighting will get it going.

Maybe if you use the Algaefix and turbo snail(s) to clear the rock, the coraline could eventually grow in and help keep the GHA back.

  5. I did use API's Algaefix marine a bit too before adding GFO. It really helped but not 100%. After adding GFO, I didn't do the chems any longer and just was patient to get the rest out.

  6. Mike I have one MP40, generation 2 I believe, that I just bought used. It's connected to my tank and it's noisy. It's not the rattling noise that means you need to adust the wet side, it's the motor within the dry side running, speeding up, etc.

I'm curious, since you have both, is your MP60 also audible enough to easily hear when within a few few of the tank? (I realize quiet, loud, etc can be a relative statement). I might have just gotten a loud one since I've read Mark Callahan even say it was very quiet. I'm debating to go tunze or get another MP40. Does the Apex have the Tunze modes similar to the MP's modes?? I rather like all the modes. But at the same time, the noise on mine is a bit more than I prefer and I believe the Tunze is quieter.

    Your thoughts?

    Thanks,

    Bryan

  7. We need more details about why you can't add 'anything' to the tank to be sure but I've known several people who's calcium is higher than the norm. That alone you should be fine with but what is that calcium level you are at now? Why purple up?

  8. yeah if it's bryopsis, do the Kent Tech M magnesium thing and hope for the best. It didn't work for me and actually hurt a couple of things but hear good results mostly when I read around the web. Bryopsis is the worst...

  9. I'm getting a few things from oozark but I'm still open if anyone is reading this and lives in the NWA/Cedar Park/Leander area. I also work downtown and could meet someone at 5pm downtown... yeah I know that narrows it down a lot but there are a lot of condos DT or folks just getting DT at that time.

    Thanks.

  10. Just helping out anyone looking. They haven't posted the jobs yet so you won't see them at www.peopleadmin.com

We need a project manager, IT network/system admin type, may need a dev person, I'm not sure. More positions too but I haven't heard the full list

Company is downtown on Congress and they pay parking.

You can PM me with what you are interested in and I'll go find out more from HR.

  11. Polar, I had the same problems. My 90g was getting hair although I had started the GFO/coal a couple of weeks earlier. The GFO was working as I had no phosphates but I still had nitrates and still had green hair algae. I thought about getting another reactor for pellets. What I did was just wait. Yes I added a few more random snails, some worthless hermits and a really cool fighting conch. Water changes do happen every week or two but nothing really changed in my setup and I didn't see those animals really breaking it down for me (I do have one mex turbo that loves hair algae but only on smoother surfaces that he can easily navigate - he couldn't keep up though and I hear some people say theirs won't touch it at all.)

So, like I said, I waited. Well I waited and I also cleaned the rocks in my sump, filters on my pumps and some of the glass in my sump. Also made sure I was changing the filter sock every 4 days to a week. It seems like waiting and a little maintenance helped. I wasn't over feeding but I will say that I now have an Apex that helps me turn off the cirulation pumps during feeding. That keeps the food in the water column so more of it gets eaten. But even before turning off the pumps, waiting for the GFO a few weeks longer seemed to help.

I hope you have the same experience. Maybe you can also try some of the little things I did above. I used wash the food before I fed it to the tank too but I have to admit I've gotten lazy about that. May be worth a try on your end.

    Good luck.

  12. Alan, you are 2nd in line if Bry does not buy the unpictured zoas and mushrooms I have offered. If I haven't heard from Bry by Monday, it will be yours. I will PM you to let you know.

Woods, you're awesome for holding that for my response. Sorry I wasn't on yesterday.

I will pass this time as I'm looking to just get a couple of soft corals at a little lower price (I've been spending a lot on my tank lately - wifey starting to look at me funny)

I still would like to know whenever you are ready to move some red mushrooms. Thanks so much.

  13. haha. I've had a yellowtail damsel for years. I know I'm lucky because he's not started any fights with any fish... until I brought home a new false p. clownfish a month ago. Clownfish has never tried to hassle anyone, just a sweet guy. But the damself found a fish a little smaller than himself and fought... not even in one area of the tank but anywhere in the tank.

I'm saying this as it was an interesting story (seeing it live) and because, maybe, it is good that they are separated even though they both would have been introduced to a new home.

  14. So a copperbandwon't mess with zoas or hammers? Of course if properly fed....Bry, you have one in your tank now?

I do have a copperband bf and and have had him a little over a year I believe. Mostly I have softies (zoaz, shrooms, ricordea) in my tank not but I did have on SPS when I got him and the fish never cared for them. I only feed him once a day. He doesn't like anything but frozen food so, for me, a fish feeder is out of the question.

If you are considering the copperband, read up on their acclimation and feeding. Acclimating is fine itself, but they often have a little ich and often don't eat away. Mine was a little of both buy adding garlic drops to all his feedings quickly got him healthy and a great eater.

  15. I need a BRS Group Buy. I have enough alone to get free shipping, I'd just like the lowered prices.

I'll wait a bit. If there are 9 other folks here that want a GB I'll go with it, even set it up if it would help. If no reply in the next few days I'll just get what I need. Hoping for the discount w/out going RC group buy.

  16. I could part with a hairy mushroom or two.

Also have a Palau Nepthea you might like.

    Let me know.

ha, I was actually hoping you would reply. Tomorrow I'm going to be unavailable all day but this evening I might be able to come by. Other than that during the week in the evening (close to 7 or later), I'm available. You know I've been interested in some of that hairy mushroom for a while.
